I live in the village near Leatherhead famous(?!) for it’s squareabout. Wanted a village around the Surrey Hills but with town facilities nearby and reasonable train line into London for when I need it. I’m 100 metres or so from bridleways that take me to the Surrey Hills so love that but not the best spot for the train as has less trains than Leatherhead and Effingham Junction either side of it. Effingham Junction/East Horsley good for train commuting but less cheap houses than Leatherhead.

Yeah – that £1k would be worth £2.2k now at 7% growth pa.

Brilliant photo and glad she shared.

OTOH not sure why people feel the need to share photos of their dinner.

Equity in your home does count as those that retire with a house and mortgage free are in a better off position that those with a mortgage and those renting when it comes to living costs. Plus there’s always the option to move to a cheaper property/area if needed/wanted.

    Home – 60%
    Unit Trusts – 25%
    Pension – 10%
    Cash – 5%

    (I’m 45)

I’ve mostly used Hermes, and claimed ok for a damaged item, but just booked a Collect+ for the 1st time as buyer wants it delivered to a store for him to collect.

should of been £250 according to the website but due to a late cancellation I was offered it for £100.

there’s 2 other students with me on the course.

Are the others happy? What did the others pay for this training? Maybe you are getting a relative bargain.

How did they persuade you that doing tasks that aren’t to do with laying block paving are relevant to your training?

How did you find out a about this and how were you convinced that it was a real training opportunity?

It’s usually agreed that pre-recorded cassettes are not so great when played on most casstette decks but some deal with them better than others – Nakamichi. A lot of cassette decks will replay recordings made on them very well indeed. They really are underated by most of us.

What helps with getting low on a road bike? I’ve got my saddle set up in the usual way (leg straight with heels on pedals, kneecap over the axle), and my bars aren’t exactly low, but if I drop my forearms less than 45deg from horisontal then my knees hit my ribs?

I presume Pro’s have the saddle much higher and further forward? But any movement away from my current position gives knee pain.

I’m on a TCR and knees nowhere near my chest, seems your chest is more bountiful than mine 🙂

Justice for all – I like One but the mix ain’t good – the drums sound too loud to me on my Naim/Kef system.

Is your solicitor a cheap internet one? Just curious.

If the vendor wants a sale the vendor had better sort out IMO.

I lowered my hedge by about 3 feet when I moved in, top stays quite brown but green does come through so would be OK in time – can’t really see it from the ground. That was only about 13 ft high though – used electric hedge trimmer and loppers quite a bit. Wish I could reduce the width but can’t go back beyond the green as will stay brown.

    Nasty things really.

Started listening to them when Mother’s Milk came out and saw them on that tour early 1990. I think UMPP has it’s moments but MM was the first really decent album – Higher Ground was a bit of a hit. But yeah BSSM is their biggest selling album with some decent singles – Under the Bridge and Give it Away.

As for me, I prefer Californication and By the Way.

I can with a bit of warming up – used to get my palms on the floor in my martial art days.

Someone commented the other week about how low I can get on my road bike – not sure if I’m at the Fizik snake level though. Well I use an Arione and am comfortable on that so perhaps I am.

Working on projects at client sites I just wear what the others do and prefer not to wear jacket and tie however like to do it for presentations and the like. This does mean that 2 suits I bought in my younger/heavier days have had to go through extensive modifications but I’ve saved money by not wearing them out.
    So…single or double breasted?!

I also put on compression shorts but no idea if they really help – feel nice on sore muscles though.

I eat lots of carbs and protein straight after a tough ride. Many like to drink chocolate milk, others pay for recovery drinks.

you’ll get a whole load of people trying to sell up in the SE and buy in the North, which will change the supply/demand equation somewhat in both areas.

France is cheaper and warmer. But there are a lot of French people there.

I plan stuff and so decided that I’d want a pension pot of £600k at 65 so working back assuming 7% growth I needed to build up £150k at 44 so did that. Now just build up ISAs so got a mix plus my home which I could downsize from/move to a cheaper area if wanted.

Buying my 1st house as soon as I started work in the mid 90s helped me a lot but I don’t earn a silly big salary.

This Legg Mason Japan fund can’t carry on doing this for ever I’m sure but 34% in the last 3 months is nice.

I made over 20% in a year on Japan in 2015, but have since sold all my funds there.

I thought Feb looked a good time to get back in.

I keep mine spread about but recently put money into Japan – 10% profit on this in just over a month, it’s bit up’n’downy 🙂

Second-hand Naim? Don’t lose much value, which reminds me, I’ve just upgraded and have a CD player and preamp I need to put on Ebay.

My Lusso gel shorts started off fine but after sometime the gel seemed to disappear leaving a useless pad. Now just buy ones with quality foam pads – I like Castelli which last very well.

What is also interesting is that the government does not count house prices when it works out what inflation is.

Well house prices shouldn’t be included, as they’re not directly a regular cost, but mortgage payments are and they’re included in the RPI but not the CPI.
