The forks might be considered effectively worthless – ie better to buy new than repair.

I got Mavic XC717 rims with XT Hubs and DT Revolution Spokes custom built by Merlin Cycles.

~£160 – very robust, incredibly light.

IME XT hubs are only a few 10s of grams lighter than deore – so they’re very average but so is the price.

So the chair was some sort of designer thing? I remember the drill thing but thought putting newspaper underneath would be OK instead! There was also a coat hanging thing made of drainpipes and taps which looked slightly odd to me….

One was a flashy designer chair thing, one a plastic device to trap dust when drilling and another was a support legs for ladders.

So are we supposed to think that Heals would have gone for the chair?

I would like to know what all the items were to see what might have been better options – none of the 4 they chose seemed that great so maybe the others were worse?

…you will end up at your destination without having to do anything else

Seems a bit of a waste of time the developer building so much more to the game really!

I found ING a lot cheaper than my M&S renewal quote – at the time seemed to offer more as well as being good for bikes.

I have adaptors and rotors so that I can switch between 160, 180 and 205 whenever I want; I use the big ones in Spain.

I played Elite on the Spectrum and then when I got a PC played Elite Plus and Frontiers. I thought they were all great but in Frontiers you could choose between a variety of ships from nippy fighters to lumbering cruisers which were hard to control but could carry huge lazers and tons of shields – or just make a fortune in trading. There were also a variety of military missions you could choose to take up so move away from the normal trading theme.

I do see kids with freeride bikes and full face helmets in Peaslake – I’m sure they’re doing something exciting somewhere…!

If the ‘N.Downs’ is meant to include the Surrey Hills then there are places where a full suss is useful but you can avoid those bits if you want to…I do!

Though I still ride my 2004 Enduro round there sometimes as it’s a laugh which is all that counts really.

I used GT85 to remove and put on grips but tried ruffian lockons and have moved all my bikes over except my lightish weight Ti hardtail out of (weight-weenie) principal.

I persuaded my company to let me go directly to Planet X who’ll give you the documents you need – unfortunately they went out of stock of the bike I wanted so won’t be going with them now.

Price seems fair to me but 2nd hand prices often feel low – depends on how worn they look really. If a fair price is too low for you then keep it but is there really any point in keeping a bike you don’t need if it still has some value – what could you use the money for? Or maybe split the bike and keep bits that would be useful as spares and sell the rest?

I didn’t know that cockerels would stop the hens eating their eggs! But getting one is quite a price to pay just for that – especially if you have neighbours…. I would love to have a cockerel or two to be able to breed hens – even raise my own to eat.

A 10kg bag of organic layers pellets lasted you over 2 years? I guess you mean a 10kg bag of grit/oyster shell? Grit is for helping them break up their food and oyster shell is for their shells though as they get older the shells tend to get thinner which is one of the reasons battery hens are changed after a year or so – they can still lay quite well and the eggs get bigger but the eggs are more fragile and sometimes off shapes.

Whilst of heard of the mustard trick I’ve never heard of it working for anyone but I’m sure it must have at times.

I’ve just added to POL hens that’ve started laying – shame they don’t lay in the nesting boxes unlike the ex-batts who must be cleverer….

Is it dark where they lay? If not make it dark as that’ll help. The other thing is to make the bottom of the nesting boxes slope so that the eggs roll under some sort of a cover.

Mine occassionally accidentally break an egg as one lays quite thin shelled eggs, – they do eat it but never purposefully break one.

There is no “why” to any of this – “why” implies intent / design – and we evolved we were not designed. Stuff like this “just is”

Why might ask why something evolved that way – things tend to evolve for valid reasons.

Probably got a big penalty for early repayment on that mortgage.

The only difference the recession has made to me is that I’d like to be able to move jobs from consultancy to an end-user close to home but nothing suitable about.

It’s marked as a large which works out as 56 I think – certainly a 58 would be too big for me.

No racks or guard attachments but p-clips would work; it’s this one:

I have a Pinnacle CX bike and it’s very like my Lemond – I use the CX bike as a winter road bike and never offroad; actually I’d like to sell it really if you’re interested in it – it’s a large.

IMO the lower pound is a good thing anyway – makes our exports much more profitable.

Er yeah but imports cost more so we’ll soon be into high inflation and interest rates followed by more house reposessions no doubt.
