I went up early in the car.Parked at the bottom ,rode up 45 mins no traffic, Back down 15 mins held up by pesky slow cars, but what a descent. It’s a great ride not mega effort but you wouldnt tackle it midday.Be sure to get your souvenir ‘sa colobra 5c’ from the cafe at the top!

Got one of these a few years ago. Forks lasted two rides, cranks are crap, wheels lasted OK. Apart from that, it was a dirt cheap intro into ss and 29ers. Only the frame survives and Its a good’n 🙂

Fatigue on a full Suss single pivot? wtf?
Don’t buy another one just for the hell of it. The only’upgrade’ to the frame since my 06 is no bottle mount. Progress indeed!

Got a five which I thought was great for blatting over the chase until a couple of years ago when a gritty November night wrote off the shiny xtr rear mech.
When I went to buy a replacement mech and saw the price (130 or so quid!) , there was also a new ss29er on sale at £400 odd quid.
Got it me self as a chrimbo pressie and never looked back. Fives been ridden 8/9 times since. Although obviously it doesn’t look as ‘cool’ its shedloads more fun, lots less faff and cheap(er)

The gear 4 rotator thing looks like the one for me as I can put the phone horizontally too and watch/listen to the TV if I fancy.
Sound quality isn’t really an issue for a unit to work out to in a garage
.My bro in law has a zeppellin unit and it is awesome but feels like overkill for my needs!

    Again,thanks for the info all.

I use innov8 baregrips and love them. I seem to get more power per legs stroke. However,I found that for the first few runs my calves took a hell of a pounding. I imagine this is due to the fact there is no heel padding as such so the foot lands flat rather than at a slight incline thus using ‘more’s calf.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the bear grips for trail running. I use cannock chase and they’ve been fine. Grip is awesome. Take it easy thoughtill your body gets used to them . Ill take a look at the bikila fivefingers Mr Jones, sound just the ticket for me.

I impulse bought a Fisher Marlin SS in january after smacking up an xtr mech in the gloop.Only ridden my five once since then and did’nt think it was worth £2000 more!OK so the forks are crap but they were easily replaced with some £170 RS Recons. Highly Recommend!!!!

bought one three weeks ago, love it got an orange five and a giant gathering dust in the garage now!forks are crappy suntour, lasted two rides before the slop in the bushings got too scary to tolerate. replaced with much lighter recons for £270.So £700 for an excellent riding ss 29er not bad in my book.

I’m with tj and samurai. It’s great for the kids
, but other than that it seems to be just over
intensified commercialism. I don’t mind spending
Money. Just not “under duress” .I suppose a lack of faith may
Have some bearing on it but frankly it just feels like imposed bs.
However I do think the merriment etc is just the ticket in what
Is the darkest, greyest time if the year.
    Merry Christmas!

probably not much use this time but next time….

pull old outer off leaving inner in place.

cut nipple end off old inner.

slide new outer over old inner top down.

pull out old inner and replace with new one.

    ta daa!
