You’d need a new stem too.

Just thinking if I sold my 100mm 1.25″ steerer overdrive forks along with my Giant headset (and stem) then I guess who ever bought them could use them on any bike?

Modern chargers don’t tend to have transformers, you can usually tell the difference by the weight. Transformers tend to be heavy. They are switch mode and usually use use a tiny amount of power if there is no load.

All chargers would have a transformer. A switch mode power supply operates at a much higher frequency around 100Khz and therefore its transformer can be much smaller and lighter than a conventional transformer that relies on the 50Hz mains for its operation. They also store energy in the core which is slightly different in operation to a conventional transformer

There would be a small power loss to keep the control IC powered and some transformer and leakage losses but without a phone connected it would go into a power saving mode. Should be about 10-100mW depending on how good/old it is.

Yes.. people can feel like they’re doing the right thing by turning off their TV at night, but then they leave the thing on constantly all day even when not watching it, using 200W.

Again TV would go into a power saving mode in standby which should be less than 1W for a modern TV

You can cycle from Didcot town center to Upton (route 544 I think?) at the recreation field in Upton there is a small pump track that is a bit of fun.

    Order placed!

Nedrapier – I’m confused, they look to be a couple of inches wider than the 685mm bars you rested them on top of. Is this correct? That would make them around 730-740mm??

It must be quite sad living in a world where you are certain that your country will be overrun by scary brown suicide bombers in your twighlight years essygrunt

There won’t be any suicide bombers in the UK in 2050 because Muslims will most likely be a democratically elected majority running the country and will have nothing to rebel about.

I go into auto pilot when I’m driving and on the phone and often have no recollection of a 100+ mile journeys. That’s why I try and call people in the car as it’s almost like having a chauffeur!

I don’t worry however about traffic offences etc. which I think is your main concern. Sounds like anxiety to me. Boosting your serotonin levels will help, would recommend exercise and if that fails anti depressants.

You know that the evidence points towards that they targeted Asian women as well and did not preferentially target white girls, it’s just that the cultural attitudes within the Asian community have meant those girls have often not come forward.

Not all Asians, they left the Muslim girls alone. They targetted white girls and Asian Sikhs. I believe the first people who raised the alarm about this abuse were from the Sikh community but they were accused of being racist.

I pretty fed up of the racism tag being used to block free speech and debate.

Racism means you discriminate against people because of their ethnicity/ biological makeup, e.g. colour of their skin, slitty eyes, ginger hair etc. This is clearly ridiculous and you would have to be very stupid individual to hold these prejudices.

What is perfectly acceptable is to judge or criticise people on their beliefs, that is after all what happens every day on STW. If I believed in the fairies and prayed to them every day and thought the rest of you were dirty infidels for not sharing my beliefs no one would think twice about taking the piss, but if I stuck my bum in the air 5 times a day to pray to Allah then no one would say anything for fear of being called a racist.

With an example of something that you thought was true.

    My “warped arguments” are evidenced.

I was actually ridiculing your logic.

If you support UKIP (which I don’t for the record) then you are a racist unfit to foster children is as ridiculous as if you are a Pakistani man then you are a rapist.

There is no denying a small proportion are UKIP voters are racist and a small proportion of Pakistani men are rapists but that doesn’t mean you should tar them with the same brush.

    mudmuncher

Why else would accuse Pakistani men of being more likely to rape, when the evidence points to that not being the case?

    Let me think? Errrr, racism?

I did say using YOUR warped argument

    …..you racist.

I reckon statistically UKIP members are more likely to be prejudiced, so they were making the right call in the interests of the children.

But nooo, it’s all about the poor little UKIPers….not the kids.

Using your warped argument could we not also say that Pakistani men are more likely to rape children therefore they should not be allowed to adopt white kids, or teach them or be within 100m of them etc.?

    mudmuncher

so your view is that all UKIP members should be banned from fostering as their views will conciously or unconciously damage the self image of immgrant children in their care, or conciously or unconciously pass on their views to non-immigrant children in their care

    Yup.

Do you think if the foster parents were really racist they would be happily fostering foreign children?

Just because one of UKIP’s policies is they believe there should be tighter controls on immigration doesn’t mean it’s supporters are racist or even against some immigration for that matter.

It’s common sense, this country is full to capacity but unfortunately anyone who states the obvious is branded a racist by the PC lunatics. The irony is many of the most vociferous critics that the UK’s immigration is out of control are the first wave immigrants themselves.

You know that the evidence points towards that they targeted Asian women as well and did not preferentially target white girls, it’s just that the cultural attitudes within the Asian community have meant those girls have often not come forward.

It was my impression from the other cases in Oxford and Bradford etc. that they specifically targetted white girls for the reasons outlined by robdixon. I’ve not read the 159 page report by Rotherham council but if no Asian women came forward then where is the proof they were targetted.

    mudmuncher
    Full Member

There does seem to be a general problem with targetted abuse of white youngsters by Asian Muslim men. Whether this is a cultural, racial or religious problem I don’t know but until it is acknowledged it can’t be addressed. If stating this makes me not PC then so be it.

I am a bit confused by this story however. Isn’t it the responsibility of the police not the council to investigate these offences.

Have you bought anything through ebay in the last few months where you have had a dispute or left bad feedback etc.

They would have your address, your ebay ID and a motive.

    1. It’s Land Rover, not landrover.
    2. In this context it’s £40k from, not £40k off.
    3. I’d probably use a semicolon to link the first and second sentences, but that’s just me.

    1. Actually it’s a Tata.
    2. Prefer “happy to take £40K off you” as it carries the subtle implication you are being fleeced.
    3. That is just you.

Congratulations, you have passed the entrance requirements.
Please proceed directly to your nearest landrover dealer where they will be happy to take £40K off you.
You will then be entitled to park in ‘parent and child’ or disabled spaces at the supermarket and no longer have to move out of the outside lane on the motorway to let lesser vehicles past.

Normal people will think you are a twunt, but from what I have seen most 4×4 owners don’t care what other people think.

I was given a 1 month old £60K+ ML350 AMG sport as a courtesy car when my estate was written off. It was the worst handling embarrassment of a car I have ever driven. I took it back to the rental company and asked to swap it for a VW Sharan which was much better in every respect + I didn’t feel like a massive bell end every time I drove it. Each to their own.

    Yeah but they are speeders.

How many people are killed every year by lane hoggers, less than people speeding I would say.

I do a lot of motorway miles and 90%+ of the road rage I see has been triggered by numpty lane hogs, – undertaking, tailgating, swerving across 3 lanes etc., so I suspect a good proportion of accidents are actually precipitated by lane hogs.

It’s a simple equation. Inconsiderate selfish driving = others drivers getting wound up = road rage = more dangerous driving = accidents and death.

Was there exactly 10 years ago. +1 for Angkor Wat, actually some of the smaller more overgrown temples are more atmospheric. Go for a tuk-tuk guide at Angkor over an aircon taxi, they are slower and allow you to take in the sights, smells etc. rather than wizzing round in a car. I’m sure you could also hire bikes there too. Make sure you visit the tuol sleng museum and killing fields when you are in PP

Think you’ll struggle to get something you can lift onto a roof that is safe enough to head out to sea in with 2 nippers. Maybe some sort of RIB? I’ve got a 12ft portabote that is great – folds up flat and I can lift it onto my roof myself. Ok on a loch if calm and zips along with a 2-3hp outboard and can be rowed. I’d head out to sea in mine but I’m a reasonable swimmer but I wouldn’t risk it unless dead calm with my kids.

You’ll struggle to get one second hand for much less than a grand, but they hold there value so I know I won’t lose anything if/when I sell mine on.

Make sure you get the cops to fingerprint.

Had my car broken into last year and the police said there was no point in fingerprinting, I spoke to another copper who said they probably wouldn’t find anything but they would do it anyway. Net result was they caught the fecker and he went down for 3 months.

Not a sparky but assuming the same thickness wire is used throughout I can’t see there is any benefit in doing this as the max potential currents flowing would be at the start of the radial circuit not the end.

Canon 50mm F1.4, great lens, brilliant for portraits on a crop sensor. I used this lens 90% of the time on my 30D before it died (the camera not the lens). F1.4 gives really shallow depth of field which makes subjects stand out from the background – can shoot indoors without flash no problem. If you want to go a bit cheaper the 50mm F1.8 is nearly as good.

Really don’t know why these dogs aren’t banned. If you want a dog for the right reasons, e.g. companionship etc rather than to try to look hard then get a Labrador or a poodle or any of the hundreds of other breeds that are generally pretty harmless.

I know the bad owners can make these dogs much more aggressive and dangerous but at the end of the day they have been bred to attack and kill other animals and you can never 100% predict this won’t spill over into small children or adults.

Many years ago my parents has a springer spaniel that had a lovely temperament, but when it got old it became very aggressive and started going for people. In the end he had to be put down – the vet thought it could have been a brain tumour or dementia that had caused the aggression, so you never really know for sure that even a well treated dog won’t go for someone at some point and I’d rather be fighting off a springer spaniel or poodle etc., than a blood thirsty pit bull.

    I’ve got one of these…
    http://www.perception.co.uk/product/index/products/touring_and_sea/carolina/carolina_fourteen/

Use it mainly on the thames but have taken it in the sea.

Few things to remember – the longer you go for the faster they go, I’ve been out with guys in 10ft kayaks and they were really struggling to keep up and I wasn’t really trying.
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull_speed

I think 14ft is a good compromise between speed, manoverability and being able to store it. I’d also go for a plastic one like the Carolina as they are cheaper and more robust, you can beach them without worrying about it. If you really get into it you can upgrade to a slightly lighter glass fibre kayak later on, but these are more expensive.

Just bought a Weber go anywhere gas BBQ a few days ago. Not really sure about it to be honest, pros and cons below….

+ Instant push button start, no messing about with charcoal.
+ Completely cooled down within 5-10 minutes of turning it off which means you don’t need to keep an eye on young kids around it and can sling it in the boot of the car without having to wait ages for it to cool down
+ pretty compact so doesn’t take up too much boot space
+ So far had 3 BBQs off a small 250 canister with gas to spare. Think you’d get 7-8 BBQs from the c500 canister which are about £5 so cheaper than charcoal.
+ A bit less antisocial in more crowded public places given you aren’t going to smoke everyone out.

    – The food tastes OK, but definitely not as good as a charcoal BBQ
    – Food sticks a bit to the stone enamel grill and it is not as easy to clean as I thought it would be.

Still have some doubts on whether I should have got the charcoal version, but maybe I just need to refine my technique a bit.

Similar happened to me a few months ago.

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/can-i-claim-off-a-third-parties-insurance-for-the-increase-in-my-premium

I think it was around 15% the insurance went up by. Told them to stick it and I was going to get insured with another company. They then offered me a loyalty bonus to stay which I think was closer to 20% off so net effect was it went down slightly.

Having said that if I hadn’t been hit I had threatened to leave then I still would have go the 20%. The morale of the story is not to accept the first renewal premium they send through.
