    All sounds ok.

The actual route doesnt get too muddy at this time time of year: the ground on the south downs is pretty much hardpack at the moment.

A good idea for a B+B is the YHA at Truleigh Hill which is at about 60-65miles in and slap bang on the SDW which has been used by a few of my mates who did this last year, otherwise there are some B+B options in Arundel, Steyning Worthing, etc. cant recommend any from presonal experience though.

Kit? yup, loads of tubes patches or fit slime tubes to your tyres.

Food, well on the SDW the first food point fron Winchester is probably around Exton (Pub), then the QECP visitor centre which has a cafe, the next is the pubs and teas rooms at Amberley, Pub at Washington (slight detour), pubs and tea rooms at Steyning (slight detour), Pub at Devils Dyke, then its pretty much no food till past Lewes and then its all off the track.

If your camelbak takes three litres of water then thats good, an extra bottle is a good idea too as the taps on the route are not always working

Singletrackmind, ahh, the delights of some “selective editing” to spice up the show…hmmm. Hope all is ok.

Well, you can always try building on the idea of bringing a keg or two of beer to races and enduros as the several pints we all had in the late night post 24/12 team party last year were very much appreciated. Particularly as the 24hr gang were still racing and had to stay teetotal 😉

Hey, heres a thought…beer themed “filling station” halfway round the lap…you know it makes sense 🙂

Very nice, but you’d probably be best advised to put some pedals on it or it’ll ride “a bit funny” 😛

North loop is about 6.5miles, south is about 5miles. Both really good fun. North is definately a bit gnarlier with a corking good switchback finale.
Havent done the blue route but all the locals say its really good.

    OMG 😯

thanks for taking that pic Rolymo, I really needed to be remided of that…I might have been imagining it but I think someone actually rode (albeit listing over rather badly) right up to the cairn.

Somehow the local trails on the South Downs now seem somewhat tame in comparison.

All in all a really good bunch.

Hope to see you all next month when I’m back in Keswick as I still think I dreamed that night ride I did with you lot last year…it was truly awesome even though I rode like the southern softy that I am 🙂

Tilgate and St Leonards forests are the really big hidden surprise riding area in Sussex.

A good area to park for St leonards is at the forest carpark on Hammerpond Lane, east of Horsham just before Mannings Heath Golfclub. Probably worth just going and having a ride around but as Woodsman says, the (ace) singletrack/deertracks are pretty well hidden. Woodsman is yer man for all the local trail knowledge :-). There is a corking (and therefore unnoficial/cheeky) DH/Shore style run in Tilgate forest too.

Our bike club did a ride there last year, there are quite a few pretty good albeit short singletrack routes around the park which you can link together to get an hour or two of riding. You can also use the area as a start point and loop further out into the surrounding area. There is a trail review on the Sussex Muddy@rse club sitehere[/url]

    Oh easy: A second-hand unicycle :-p

Cheap, simple, singlespeed and a fixie (and therefore imediately both “niche” and STW forum friendly) and no pesky QR’s on the seatpost or wheel to aid theft.

Ok, yes, it might still get half-inched but unless the thief can actually ride away on it (in which case, fare dues) then you would have the novelty value of watching them try…and perform their first unicycle novice faceplant.

1st proper mountain bike: back in 1991, Spesh Hardrock with Biopace rings (remember them too…)

AFAIK you would own the copyright of the image (as you are its creator) unless the graffiti artist had put a copyright mark and associated identification of the owner/creator (really really unlikely) on their work and even then its up for debate if the grafitti has been done without the building owners permission. As you own copyright on your photographic images you can make money from the image of the “artwork”

I think you can make images of public buildings/places etc for your own profit unless you are breaking the law by trespassing to take photos etc and even then its up for debate. Taking photos in an art gallery is another matter…

Thats why you didnt get charged…Haldon is funded by the car park charges at the FC visitor centre. If you park on the road you dont pay.

The Freeride area has (I think) been closed for about a year now cos its got bits like this:
