I have a chisel and it works fine on the more pedally stuff in SH,
however I don’t think it would last long being slammed around on more challenging stuff. You just have to remember it’s not most aggressive of HT’s and ride accordingly. My other HT (Bird) will take the abuse. Not sure if a FS is a must for SH
I’ll just add that big dog has a one lap timed cat’ which can be good fun and way of finding out if you like it or not but I believe it’s very late in the XC season.
Mind you next years season and dates may look different what with the current situ.
Yes I’d agree ferrals. The gorrick would be a very good way of having a go. Their courses are really good and mostly well drained even in the winter. Also the Brighton Big Dog is a really good one day event which is usually held in August. I wish I started racing alot earlier than I did. Now intend to make up for lost time!
That’s not old! 53 with RA here and I’ve done a few races in the past, brass monkeys and big dog etc. I’m never gonna podium but I like the competition. Oh and don’t under estimate the 50’s +. Man some of those guys and gals are fast!! Sadly the last race for me this year was in Feb.
I was diagnosed with RA 7 years ago (I’m 53 now). I got to the point where I couldn’t work or dress myself in the morning let alone ride my bike. There is some very good advice above which I can’t improve on. All I would say is listen and trust your RA consultant. It took me about year on a bit of a roller coaster to get the right Meds sorted me. Now I’m working again (self employed plumber) and riding my bike at a half decent speed and distance, I managed a lap of Brighton Big Dog under 40 minutes last year which i was quite pleased with being an old timer with RA! Of course I have my off days but that is something I have got use to. Good luck with with it all 👍
People who bag up their dogs mess and then drop said bag on the ground and leave it! I’m talking about in the middle of no where. Lakes, south downs and so on. I don’t believe that they are all coming back to take it home.
Takes me Back!! I still have a ridged Diamond Back in the garage roof collecting dust. And brakes, what brakes!? Even with all your fingers pulling back you couldn’t stop in the wet!
Mister P I suffered exactly the same thumb injurie doing a turtle roll with my long board last Sept. It took quite a few years before I could start to use my dropper lever again!
There is some really interesting advice here, thanks for sharing folks. After a good run of feeling in good shape I’ve felt that my RA is creeping back. I had been using a lot of the Margret Hill diet in the past but have let it slip for one reason or another. I’m convinced that letting the diet slide has had an effect on my current health down turn. I feel encouraged to get back on it after reading the above posts😊
As already said sounds a bit more like OA than RA. Get back to Docs etc and get your wife’s bloods checked out.
If it is RA, treatment has come on leaps and bounds over years.
All the best.
