I don’t know how much the other options cost,
But you can pick up the Samsung Gear Fit 2 for around £150.muddydwarfFree MemberSamsung Gear series?
I have the Gear Fit 2 which does what you require.
Canned responses to text messages,
Built in GPS
ability to show watch face ‘always on’
Good battery life
HR monitor
Step counter
Waterproof (ish)
Wouldn’t be without it.muddydwarfFree MemberSamsung Gear series?

Wouldn’t be without it.muddydwarfFree MemberThe stuff I sat near the stove last night has dried out a treat, if nothing else I’ll just keep doing that.
I’ve got 4 woodpiles & three are wet, the problem is that the dry pile is A) running out & B) hardwood, so difficult to get going without some nice dry soft wood.muddydwarfFree MemberBriquette! I despise the autocorrect on this damn phone!!!!
muddydwarfFree MemberCurrently have a basket drying by the etiquette fuelled stove.
Looks like that will be the way forward.muddydwarfFree MemberStrange how people see things differently.
I was at the Sale-Exeter game last night & the place was thumping.
Two very good defensive efforts from both teams. No shame in a narrow loss to the reigning Champions especially considering where Sale were last year.muddydwarfFree MemberWell, I have a Mio 505 unit.
I like It, I certainly like the Mio customer service – when my original version stopped picking up a GPS signal after the warranty had run out they replaced it with the upgraded full Euro map model!
The website is basic, and the track creating tool is irritating in that you can only do it in small 15km (I think) steps, but I understand Garmin is similar?
WiFi uploading of stored rides & downloading created tracks to the device.
Ability to link to Strava & other sites.
Battery life is pretty good-easily enough power to track & record a 200km Audax.
Ability to link it to your phone for music, or Bluetooth audio turn by turn directions if that’s your bag.
TBH I don’t use enough of the functions but it’s a great bit of kit.
Not cheap though, think the Euro map model with HR strap & cadence counter was £350.muddydwarfFree MemberHad a stove fitted last December, MsD has well-controlled asthma.
She says she has zero problems from our stove, or even our garden chiminea.muddydwarfFree MemberMade some Spanish style mussels (cooked in shallots, garlic, chilli, chorizo & white wine)
Delirium Tremens beer followed by a white Rioja.
Some obscure 70’s prof rock on BBC4 cos I can’t be bothered to turn over..muddydwarfFree MemberVery happy Sale fan tonight, aren’t many teams I’d prefer to see lose by that many points :)
Just been reading Shedweb, gonna be grinning all weekend.muddydwarfFree MemberWas at the Sale game last night, was also there last week.
I’m amazed at how much difference a week makes, like two completely different teams.
Last week Newcastle came to play an extremely negative game & were highly effective at it, shutting Sale down.
Last night Irish came to play rugby which allowed Sale to do the same.
Irish came very close to scoring on several occasions, certainly see how they beat Quins on the opening day.
In fact, my only complaint about the evening was the young & inexperienced bar staff who gave me cooking lager instead of the cider I ordered!muddydwarfFree MemberMeh.
I bought a cheap, knock off version of the Direct-Energie team kit purely because it matches my bike. Same with my Mavic ‘summer’ helmet.
My saddlebag has 2xtubes,repair kit,multi-tool,CO2 charger,chain tool,tyre levers & split link.
Because my rides vary between 25 mile evening runs & 100+mile all day rides I prefer to have all the kit I need permanently on the bike. It’s just easier that way & it doesn’t get left behind. If any über-cool road warrior wants to sneer they can.
muddydwarfFree MemberAnother question. Looking at various phones I’m seeing different priced models based on the RAM capacity plus the storage capacity – do i need a larger RAM if I’m not playing games? (I don’t do phone games)
muddydwarfFree MemberCheers folks, those one plus 3 phones look good but they’ve stopped making them so may be difficult to find?
Just back off hols so a little loathe to drop another lump of cash!muddydwarfFree MemberOne plus 3? Never heard of them tbh.
If it helps I will be buying the phone without contract as I’ve a sim-only deal with EE that gives me unlimited calls & texts plus 20gb data for £18 so no need for a new contract.muddydwarfFree MemberBudget? Tbh I’m not sure. The Gear Fit is £180 so the cost is going to hurt either way.
I’ve just read that thread, I’ve no knowledge of any of those phones as it’s a good while since the HTC turned me off Android.
I like many things about my Nokia phone but it’s a dead OS so I need to look at Android.muddydwarfFree MemberBudget is flexible, but will probably be aiming at older models/2nd unless there are some amazing offers!
muddydwarfFree MemberAnd now my local paper is attracting haters for daring to suggest that we give cycles space when overtaking.
Added my polite thoughts.. ;)
muddydwarfFree MemberDon’t blame you!
It will be VERY boggy around the tarn, and the streams cutting across the trail will be moving fast so take care.muddydwarfFree MemberThe Airbeam tents have a blow-off valve so you can’t put too much pressure into the tubes. The first generation didn’t have that & too many people pumped them too hard ‘just for luck’.
Nowadays they are pretty foolproof.
One other good thing is that they are very resistant to wind damage, if there is a huge gust it will flatten the tent then spring back up again, a poled tent will suffer damage.
Having said that, we have a poled Vango Amazon 400. It’s huge & was only £300, whereas an equivalent sized Airbeam was £1000..muddydwarfFree MemberI’ll be in the Brookhouse tomorrow! We are taking the bimbling (commuter) bikes to get around the valley, prefer riding between the Woolpack, Boot & William IV to walking.
muddydwarfFree MemberI bought a (knock-off) Direct-Energie kit purely for the colours – it matches my bike!
Which is a good a reason as any for wearing it I suppose.Daft thing came about one evening as myself (on black/yellow bike & wearing the DE kit) and another rider (full red/black BMC kit & matching bike) were attempting to ‘race’ each other along the Rossendale valley – even I started to laugh at myself at that point!
muddydwarfFree MemberI’ve done exactly that route on a 140mm 33lb Wolf Ridge. All of the bikes will do the job, which is the lightest? There’s a lot of climbing out of Mitredale & I suspect the ground around the tarn will be very boggy.
Rocky descent into Boot is great fun on a full suss though!Say hi if you see me bimbling around between the pubs on a Genesis Day One, it’s the Beer Festival this weekend :)
muddydwarfFree MemberCan’t find what Emily Thornberry said regarding the 48%.
I’m tempted towards voting Labour as a tactical vote – my MP is/was a Remain campaigner, yet I feel very strongly about the insanity of Brexit.
muddydwarfFree MemberI’m conflicted.
On the one hand, Brexit is THE single most important issue of our times – leaving the EU is an insanity that will damage the UK for decades to come & only the LD’s have come out against it.
Labour have many policies I admire, yet support Brexit – and Corbyn is pretty well known for his antipathy to the EU.
This is a strong Labour seat yet UKIP came 2nd last time round & as the nazi’s aren’t standing here i suspect their supporters will lend their votes to their ideological fellow-travellers in the Tory party.Hard choice-do I vote with my principles & go LD or do I vote Labour to keep the blue slime out?
muddydwarfFree MemberBest thing about Tom Curry?
There’s two of him!
Assuming he stays fit he (& his brother Ben) are on a meteoric path. From England U28’s, U20’s, Sale first XV to England without ever looking out of place.
Still very young but both very interesting prospects for the future. Watching them come through this season, due to injuries in the Sale squad they were thrown on at the deep end but coped remarkably well – well enough to catch EJ’s eye. Given they were playing in a struggling team that’s no mean feat.muddydwarfFree MemberYet they scored the same number of tries as the team known for attacking rugby? Possibly more, as they had one try disallowed.
muddydwarfFree MemberWasps had to make 299 tackles yesterday, so a bit of a stretch to say Exeter weren’t ‘attacking’.
Nathan Hughes must have woken up sweating in the early hours, 90 seconds from victory & he gave away a stupid penalty to gift Exeter the equaliser. In other news, Lancashire took both mens & ladies trophies this afternoon followed by a decent showing from England’s young guns against the Barbarians. Tom Curry was man of the match, keep an eye on the Curry twins – they are already great prospects. Glad Sale nailed them down with decent contracts.
muddydwarfFree MemberBinners.
My heartfelt, & sincere condolences to yourself, your colleagues and your family tonight.
muddydwarfFree MemberI have two friends.
One born in London to English parents, raised in Glasgow & a staunch Rangers fan, speaks with a broad Glaswegian accent & identifies as Scottish.
Other bloke, born in Rochdale of Scottish Parents, speaks with the same accent as me. Staunchly Scottish.
Basically its down to cultural exposure, you are what you feel yourself to be.Me? Scottish & Welsh heritage on my maternal side, but i know/feel naught of that. My fathers side have been here since before the Conquest, we are in the Domesday book & our name comes from a place four miles from where i sit now. Guess which side i identify with?
My maternal grandparents were all miners who moved from Wales/Scottish borders to look for work in the mills in the C19th, but i know almost nothing if them as people, which is a real pity. I dunno, how do you quantify a feeling?muddydwarfFree MemberHappy Birthday Pete, hope you are celebrating it well today.
muddydwarfFree MemberHeading downhill into Edenfield on Saturday (on the road bike) doing 35+mph in a 40 zone. It’s a fairly bendy road, I look over my shoulder just before a bend to find a Rover sat 2ft off my rear wheel at 35mph.
I’m taking Primary, there is oncoming traffic & I’m moving fast downhill. He STILL attempts an overtake, passing within 18″ of me whilst glaring at me as he passes.
He was perfectly happy to put my life at risk simply because (I’ve no doubt) he considers himself better than a mere cyclist.muddydwarfFree MemberPete, you don’t need to be a historian to see what may be coming down the tracks!
My MP is Heywood & Middleton, despite living a mile from the Town Hall, Danczuk is a terrible MP & Rochdale a trad Liberal seat anyway.
I simply cannot vote for a Party that will not stand up against the crazy farce that is Brexit, it is THE single defining issue of our age. Let it go through & it doesn’t matter WHAT Labour promise, as we won’t be able to afford any of it.When the Tories decided to become the electable face of UKIP Labour had a chance to become the voice of the 48%, most of the PLP are anti Brexit anyway yet the leadership pushed a 3-line whip & the PLP supinely rolled over.
Those aren’t the people I want representing me.
Corbyn is a Brexit supporter, ergo he is not a man i want in Downing St.muddydwarfFree MemberHold my nose & vote for a Brexiteer?
Tories stand next to no chance here, yet a LibDem candidate may just take the seat.
I’ll vote with my principles.muddydwarfFree MemberMy position is simple.
I’ve voted Labour for 32yrs, I could never bring myself to vote for a Tory govt – especially one this insane.
However, Corbyn & Labour support the utter insanity of Brexit.
No matter what other policies Labour propose, they all pale before the single greatest political disaster of our times.
Which is why I cannot vote for my current MP as she voted for article 50, so that leaves me with the only political party that opposes the madness.Labour deserve their coming oblivion.
muddydwarfFree MemberAlso, I bought a cheap £18 splitting axe from B&Q, so far its flying through freshly cut logs, even those I thought were too long to easily split.
muddydwarfFree MemberI’m cheap, I use an old 1956 pattern British Army machete for creating kindling.
