Some laptops have akey you press before loading to get into a hidden diagnostic/repair utilty partition (F11 or F12) it may give a hint briefly on reboot.

Alternatively get an XP instal disk from someone and boot to that. Should work ok if you use a disk from the same version and the activatiuon code off the sticker on the laptop.

Married Mans allowance (and Mortgage Releif MIRAS) was abolished in 2000.
AFAIK there are no benefits to being married.
There are no government benefits to being a loving family whether married or not.

The removal of married mans allowance and MIRAS means that both parents have to work in order to feed and house their families. This is being increased by the provision of child care from lower ages (3 years is it?)

IMO The breaking up of family life (married or otherwise) by financial policy has lead to the current increase in gang culture as there are no stable roll models available.

I found the most frustrating thing was the “suitable alternative”.
The employer has a duty to try and relocate you if they can find a “suitable alternative” for you.

However, if you turn down a suitable alternative they may say you are making yourself unemployed as you have not accepted the “suitable alternative”.

If you don’t consider the alternative to be suitable you may have to stick to your guns and keep writing to them giving your reasons.

DRL are to be compulsory on new cars from 2011. CTC is against this because the lights divert attention fro vulnerable road users.

    http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4681

Cyclists will end up having to have lights on all the time to make them stand out against the background of all the car lights. Also failure to use a light during the day when all the other vehicles have them could be considered as negligent in the event of an accident.

It will depend on whether the part time job is considered as “a suitable alternative” to the current position. If it is she will hold continuous employment and keep any benefits of long term service.
Alternatively she could be made redundant and then reemployed. In this case you loose continuous employment rights but should gain a redundancy payout (if applicable).

I’m not sure you can imply anything untoward from ‘it might be helpful whilst you are pregnant to do less hours anyway’. Someone might say this to express empathy.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, epicyclo. “Accidents” are caused because people aren’t paying proper attention, not down to the speed they’re going.

Although technically this is correct if your not paying proper attention you have less time to react the greater your speed. The amount of damage in terms of injury and financial damage is greater in accidents that happen at higher speeds even if speed is not the direct cause of the accident.
