I was in the same position a year or so ago, very nearly bought a full fat whyte e160 having demo’d one at FOD and It was great. In the end I bought a Orbea rise and so glad I did, its rides like a regular trail bike, I also have a Ibis Ripmo analogue. On my last ride I had a issue with the controller which turned out to be 100% my fault so the motor wouldn’t turn on I still managed a shorter ride and the bike pedalled up hill not too bad. As one of the other replys the mid power bikes actually have plenty of power for anyone who’s reasonably fit.

I use Volt x safety glasses pretty good and cheap and have different lens colours added bonus for me is I’m knocking on a bit now and they do a version with a reading lenses at the bottom of the lens which is a perfect if I need to look at my phone or sort a mechanical

Been riding my S150 for over 2 years now with no issues whatsoever, great bike that rides very well.

As for Whyte bikes being heavy mines a shade under 32lbs which is ok for a Alluminuim 150mm travel bike not much heavier than some overpriced Carbon bikes with similar travel.

Clearily I’m in minority on the STW forum but I quite like the looks too, maybe I need to go to spec savers.

Had the same issue with my 2018 revs which came fitted to my Whyte S150, did the lower leg service couldn’t see anything untoward so took them back to Leisure Lakes who sent them of the Sram, 3 days later got a new set of Pikes free of charge so big thumbs up to LL & Sram.

If they’re out of warranty then get them back to Sram for a service anyway seems to be a common fault.

Used Ebay several times in the past with varied success but these days I use Pinkbike classifieds, takes a little longer than E bay but fewer Kn*bheads wanting stuff for nothing.

    TBH that was my view.

And of course Tom forgot C2W bit, you get pannier mounts on a hightower right ? 😉

Had a OTB moment at BPW a couple of weeks ago, my head hit first then landed heavily on my right wrist and as I was lying there assessing what hurt I saw my bike hurtling towards me as it landed on my head!!

Good news my Fox lid did an excellent job and on the day I thought I’d heavily sprained my wrist, no more riding for the day but somehow managed a 3hr drive home.

Next day wrist swollen significantly so went to A&E who confirmed fractured wrist and finger, lots of initial pain but after 2 weeks pain pretty much gone replaced with a dull ached and fingers etc. now working ok, 3 more weeks till I get the cast of so 6 weeks off the bike in total.

Can’t comment on the covert but I had a external Thomson post for 3 years and it was superb. Recently swapped frames and the Thomson 150 covert was not available when I needed it otherwise I would not have hesitated.

Your right, its a good bit of kit, was running a Thomson 125 before but quality feels up there.

I’ve Been running a Thomson post for 2 years now, it did get a v slight bit of rotational play after 2 years but sent it back to Thompson who fixed it free of charge so no complaints, i would send it back its got a 2 year warranty i think.
