What did you do to overtighten a BB? were you standing on the spanner?

I used my torque wrench, but it didn’t click when I set it to use reverse thread on the drive side cup.

but they look a bit ‘special’ off the bike I dare say?

I agree with you on that. However if you work in a bike shop you must wear them, to show you know about bikes 😛 (I have seen multiple bike shop staff wear them)

The are ugly but, I like mine and plenty of other people wear them.

I have ridden in Vans before, chukka lows (for skateboarding) The waffle sole wasn’t great when it came to grip, My shimano AM41’s are much grippier.

Some people ride in full face helmets and on DH bikes in my local wood, now I am there thinking either I am doing it wrong and thus missing out and would have more fun on a DH bike, or they are doing it wrong and are over biked, or merely messing about…

What I don’t like is the industry saying that my 26er is now a pile of junk, and should be replaced by a much faster, better in every way 29er.

29er’s are an alternative and better for some. They are not the best thing since sliced bread.

People are saying things in a way that 29er’s are better in every way and 26er’s are now obsolete.

Its not like that, never will be. It’s like full sus vs hardtail, when it comes down to riding bikes for enjoyment, people ride what they like, for some thats full sus, for some HT.

Ordered on Tuesday – still waiting.

CRC always take a while with me though, last time I placed an order with them, no dispatch email or anything the items just showed up in about three days, I live near Leeds – don’t know why this is.

Learned to ride a bike at the age of 12. I dug out an old rigid steel mtb out of the back of my mates garage which I used to ride on the road between Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford as well as canal path riding up to the age of 15, then I just stopped riding all together.

Then this summer, one morning I felt the urge to grab my dads £800 Halfords GT (he uses it to commute) for a spin in some local woods, rather enjoyed it, and so when I had a 1 hour wait for a bus I popped into Morrisons, and lurked in the magazine section – picked up a copy of mbr and that introduced me to mtb and provided the inspiration.

I bought a Genesis core 40 in September and I am aged 18.

    Pfft, cakes…

Strawberry tarts. More a mid college day thing than a mid ride however, lucky to have half a bottle of lucozade for a mid ride break.

As title. Not only riding on footpaths but when they are in a wet condition is even worse. Pay some consideration for why it is a footpath and not a bridleway, plenty of decent bridleways in the country anyway. Not only are you eroding the path, you are creating a bad reputation for all your fellow mtb’ers. As a biker I feel a winging so and so for saying this, but lets be honest arent there enough decent areas to ride?

So blah aside, the problem with cyclists on footpaths is “trail erosoin”.

Trails erode. Thats what they do its just what happens to them, like cliffs erode, I don’t think mtb’ers ride on cliffs – were not that hardcore (yet). So to say that the ONLY reason not to ride on footpaths is that we might erode them in pretty much the same way as any other user or the elements is utter pish.

    HP.

Forget everything else when it comes to laptops.

Quick look for you; this don’t look too shabby: click!

Edit: Similar but more inbudget: Click!

The toshiba you showed may have more RAM, but you can upgrade that, unlike the processor (toshibas have crap build quality and look cheap anyway)

Try to stay away from Huddersfield – nothing going for it, too many “ganstaz” and not enough jobs. Leeds is nice, Batley has some chavy estates but its not too bad.

edit: working in Kirklees you may want to touch up on some Black vernacular.

Every forums has its “characters” but at the end of the day I can just log out, have a biscuit and all is well, people take the internet too seriously…

Massive forums with tons of posters make me feel like I am just talking to “the internet” instead of having a convo with a particular user or group of them.

3’s a crowd. Having three different colours(3 shades of grey aren’t “different”) on one thing, be it a mountain bike or a car, or even ones clothes looks bad. The “platinum” one looks pretty horrid imo.

I have bought myself a Genesis core 40 2011, I ride local stuff round Bradford – Ilkley. Pleasure to ride picks up speed like its rocket powered, I had a similar budget to you (bought the bike for £989 and spent £200 on some nicer Avid Elixir 5 brakes)

Option 1: fall off land on knees – have blood streaming from knee caps – get back on bike – ride the rest of the ride at half pace with bloody legs, and have people take the piss for falling off. (although if you have an even bigger off, then you won’t be able to ride home at all – better still 🙂 )

Option 2: fall off land on knees – get up, dust off – ride on…

I bought a Genesis core 40 and bodged a tabletop on it, The niggle that the frame maybe damaged and may fail was in the back of my mind, but the way I see it is that: If the frame breaks then I buy myself a lovely latitude frame and put all the bits from my core (Easton haven bars included) onto it, which would be quite a nice upgrade don’t you think…

Maybe the crack in the first one was caused by an accident, nothing to do with the frame being crap or riding style 😉

Helmets are good, since walking in all muddy into Tesco express; you get strange looks without a helmet, but with one people instantly know your a mountain biker and all is well 🙂
