    hmm, being a full time Road rider I’d tend to agree that constant wheel-suckers are a pain, especially when combined with showy hill attacks. Remember though that this may have been his first run out with the club, he hasn’t picked up on pack riding etiquette (hand signals, turns at the front). What he wears doesn’t matter, your legs and lungs should do all of the talking!

    Worst photo stitch ever! Thanks Canon. Empty beds are for veg and the space to the right is for the greenhouse which is on order.

    I am willing to bet ‘foxylaydee’ is called Dave, a forty something, IT accounts manager from Solihull.

    Or… it could be my cynical nature but ‘Foxylaydee’ appears to be a parody of a load of the crap we get on here, “should I be a lesbian?”, “my boyfriend is not satisfying me”, “I am now single”

    It’s been done before…

    Mouse and computer reunited;

    Have a look around on Google, combined with UHE there may be something in it. Regarding solar panels, PV, ground source heat etc… the costs in terms of embodied energy, installation and maintenance mean it’s simply uneconomic. Good design can provide many better passive alternatives.

    I would but someone’s just stolen my mouse and that makes things more difficult. I shall retrieve another.

    I find your lack of faith disturbing.

    Yes, the shifting may require extra force.

    Oh, and stop putting solar/PV panel’s on your roof, paint it white instead.

    It’s the way forward. Make almost everything electric, lots of Nuclear power which is essentially incredibly green when compared with the alternatives, send the waste up into space.

    ‘Green’ alternatives are propaganda. The embodied energy and environmental costs will never add up.

    Everything should be Nuclear and everything should be electric.

    Increase protein intake and reduce carbs, ride long and steady

    – Less bread, pasta, rice
    – More fish, white meat, perhaps a protein shake
    – Go out and ride as hard as you can for an hour, take note of your average HR
    – take 80 – 85% of that average HR and ride long and steady at this pace
    – When you get back have a can of tuna and lots of fluid + salts and wait for your regular meal.

    At first the loss will be fairly significant due to water mass maintained in the absorption of carbs, this will dissipate.

    At 5’7″ i’d buy him a 54, it would be a little long but he’d be able to ride it through to 5’10”-11″

    not helpful but;

    I’d be putting the money into some good wheels, a HRM, some quality gears or forks.

    He will need to size up fairly quickly so I’d stick with bargain basement frames that fit. Look at it this way, he wont be putting out enough watts to trouble any cheap frames in terms of flex.

    Yes, it should be no problem, Just get started, let us know when you can do 2 minutes at 1000 Watts and I will ring British cycling for you. The simple fact that your body allowed you to gain so much weight is a fairly conclusive indicator that you probably wouldn’t get past domestic Cat 3.

    Best of luck, it really is that f**king simple.

    People ride for different reasons,

    As part of the University club (a few years back) girls were a regular fixture (1:4ish), no problems at all, they were the main points (for funding) contributor for the season, even hormonal students didn’t letch/take photos, I assume that is reserved for sleazy, irritating 50 something’s?

    Access to road riding is easy, some of the larger local clubs have a ‘leave nobody behind’ policy, it’s a pain if you want to go quickly but then there are other clubs/groups who fit the bill. These clubs generally do not contain women and as such language/competition is prevalent, and TBH can be intimidating for anyone.

    I second what roadie_in_denial has said, positioning is a Black art, my cleats face in different directions and are positioned near the centre of the shoe, my saddle is pointing to the left and nose down…

    I’d generally suggest you cut the mileage until you find the best set-up for you, and remember it’s not always a race so play with more relaxed positioning.

    2tyred – Good for you, Try a run out with a local club, if the pace is too slow (and it probably will be if you are reasonably fit) then go on the British Cycling website and find the rated clubs in your area (results based) and head out with them and then you will find out what fast is.

    Frame – Pick up a Cervelo RS or R3, pound for pound they are a great frame, no soul and a fairly unresponsive but stiff and light. TBH, the biggest improvements you can make are in your legs and lungs so i’d spend the money on a Powertap.

    Not sure I’d bother, If it’s for training reliability then I’d side with Butyl tubes with the indestructible fusions (I use them). It simplifies things if you want to have a bash at racing, you can just slip those off and put some Pro3 or CorsaCX with latex tubes.

    Must be gay then, i ride with leg/knee warmers on at all times. I am a roadie though, not use a baggy shorts – leg warmer combination would look.

    You’re absolutely correct, bikes are built for a purpose, at what point does a ‘jey XC bike’ become a ‘man’ bike? Is it the addition of bigger brakes or a higher body fat percentage?

    When you say “man bikes”, are you referring to fat blokes going down hills on skill compensator’s or blokes pushing 500 watts on a TT bike for 20 mins?

    Nail, head.
