Yep, bottom of stage 3 according to the email

Mass start – riders line up and are steadily released to ensure chips are activated as they pass through the start gate.

Disappointing, I was hoping for a Megavalanche style, carnage riddled free for all

You are entered on the Sportive.

Please come to the Event Hub between 06:30 – 07:45 on Sunday 15th May to collect your SPORTident Timing card. There will be a Mass Start at 08:00.

The above is from my confirmation email. I for one won’t be there at 6:30. If I miss the start by a few mins, its OK (in my books)

Edit: Also a mass start might be interesting

I tend to swap sides half way up the hill, or when one side starts to feel it.

I would have thought a high amount of lighter, half squats would help, i.e. 3 x 50

    Maybe some wall sits too

    I don’t think it’s that intelligent.

I think it does something like this:

Weight in 5 weeks = current weight in lb – (calorie deficit for that day * (5 * 7))/3500

I.e. calculates your predicted weight on the basis that 3500 cals = 1lb

    …or something like that

Personally I like it, since it motivates me to maintain a bigger deficit, since I can see the effects an extra 300 cals per day has

    Hi all

Many thanks for your comments and feedback.

I completely appreciate that hardtails do tend to batter the rider, but I’m wanting to take the edge off the onslaught.

I’ll probably lower the stem while looking for a wide 27.5” rear and go from there…however if I see a short travel fs that’ll accommodate all of the HT components and pedals well, I’ll probably need to get the domestic boss some flowers.

    Thanks again

Apologies for not tagging with individual names…I can never figure it out

Masher: Oh inserts…fair shout. I’ll look into that

Jimmy: I run about 3-4 times a week (which has definitely helped), and do resistance training 1-2 times a week

dc: I think they’re 25mm (inner) rims with 2.3” tyres. You also make a fair point re. it’ll never be comfy…perhaps my Edit is warping my expectations

    Not yet, but getting close.

For me, it’s not just the price, it’s the justification for paying that much which is becoming harder and harder.

For several reasons (this being one of them) I’m increasingly finding myself running over riding.

    Evening all

My trusty Garmin 910XT could do with replacing/repairing.

I’ve had a look at the latest generation of fitness watches, and they all look like they’re all day wearables with a host of new data to worry about (resting heart rates, recovery etc). Im toying with the idea of asking Santa for a new watch, or just trying to bodge a repair.

Do you (personally) look at this new data, or is it just an additional distraction? I don’t wear a watch for anything other than exercise, so I can’t see me getting much benefit, unless it’s a game changer.

Barring last year, I’ve enjoyed the past few Christmases

For me and the boss, the trick is to ignore everyone else, just spend the day together and do the stuff we want, then do family stuff another day.

I figured nothing about the standard Christmas with family etc is actually that enjoyable

I’ve just upgraded and found the same thing…fortunately there’s a button in the settings to revert back to normal.

Apparently the new tab thing at the top of the screen was too much to ask for

Are we talking 100% cold, or with a little bit of heat to take the edge off?

I used to in the past if my muscles were still aching from the previous days workout/big ride…seemed to work great in flushing out the limbs. Haven’t needed to for a while now, so either I’m a machine, or just don’t push as hard.

    @snotrag bother! Cheers though

I know what you’re saying, I often look at fancier HT frames to upgrade to, ride it then wonder why

Winter fun is what keeps me going when it gets chilly…go out, get muddy as hell, quick rinse and repeat.

    Hi all

I have a quick question…during the initial phase of the Scandal release, half the forum bought Rockshox Rebas from Alltricks.

Did the forks come with spare volume reducers*? I’ve suddenly figured out how to ride the Scandal and in need of some progression in the fork travel.

*just being lazy and asking on here before trying to find them

    Cheers

I’m in a similar situation with my riding mate and my work mate…both have their reasons.

Fortunately neither have tried to persuade me from getting jabbed.

I don’t let it bother me, they’re grownups and if they get ill, hopefully they’ll be ok.

Could you use some elasticated string/rope? Either thick enough to see or wrapped in that spiral cable holder stuff?

You’d need relatively well supported ends so they don’t get pulled over, but might work alright without the need to reset the bar every time.

I vote to go for it, if it doesn’t work out, you still have the Ragley frame.

What’s making you dead set on the 5?

Thanks for the additional responses, folks.

With the first ones, I was more than happy to save a grand and not bother gravelling up, as I probably would be making it more suited to off than on-road…then the latter ones came in, and I was looking at maps, increasing the road mileage to make the longer mtb rides a bit longer, because its quicker etc…anyway I’m back to square 1.

Next stop is a demo (when they become available)

Apologies for the post highjack, however I think my queries would be better here than starting a new thread.

I’m in a similar situation to the OP, only with less balls, in that I’m gravel curious, but haven’t committed yet.

I used to have a Boardman CX a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t my jam…the tyres were Conti CX 35mm, the brakes were TRP Spyre mechanical brakes (set up what I believe to be correctly), and everything else was as it came from the factory….and I absolutely hated descending on it, the tyres were harsh and bumpy, and the brakes were pathetic. Climbing and on the flat was great however, especially since any increase in effort resulted in a noticeable increase in speed. Also I never really got onto the drops much due to an excessive diet making thinks a little uncomfortable (looking a bit better in that department, but the front definitely felt low).

Fast forward to today and I’m spending more and more time on my Scandal happily pedalling around the local bridleways and fireroads etc, with a few link roads in between…that combined with new bike fever and everyone else having one is making me look more at gravel bikes.

How much different would something like a Sonder Camino be compared to the old CX, would it be worth taking the plunge, or at least spending more time investigating? I’m about 5 miles from by local trails, so I’m not forced to drive to do anything interesting, and everything round here (close to Guisborough) is rather hilly and generally a bit rough.

I appreciate that I could just hire one for the day (not sure if that’s covid permitted), but I thought I would ask on here first.

Wheeling the bike through the house on the back wheel, and the front tyre catches on the top of the door frames, and the bars won’t fit through without being on a slight angle.

Modern bikes being so good it’s definitely you that’s the weak link and why you’re not in the top half on Strava.

Interesting bunch of responses here, and apologies for the duplication from the other thread.

I think the regional thing is why I didn’t really think XC races existed, with events quietly being held in my area.

It turns out I have a regional XC organisation group, which hold a few events per year. Ive thrown them a Facebook like and will probably enter the fun category, just to try and get a bit more involved.

But yeah, I’ve helped organise motorsport events, I appreciate the work that goes in, and if few come to the party (which it appears in some cases), it must be disheartening. I can also see how CX can be much easier to set up and run than XC, especially if there’s a bunch of bored roadies with nothing to do in winter, and not as much land area, or features are required.
