Torq 12 course is rough on the body. Get a couple of long (~6hr) MTB rides done somewhere rough.
It will give your back and hands a chance to get used to the punishment.

Also, if you can ride for 6hrs, then I think you can ride for 12… or 24.

I can’t think of a UK mag that is positive about Fat Bikes, so Dirt are not alone.
Pretty sure the same was said about 29ers 10 years ago – that has changed now.

He’s done nothing since 2012 to justify his record salary. Going for the commonwealth games, seriously? Sky must be thrilled.

He won the Tour of California earlier this year. It might not hit the headlines here, but thats important for Sky as its high profile in the USA and they have US sponsors.

Yes, but it sits on one side – not both, like Garmin Vector for example.
I am just being a pedant, obviously ;)

Why measure power on only one side make assumptions when you can have the real McCoy for almost the same money.

P2M is only one sided… as is SRM and Quarq.
I know the measure things differently, but one sided none the less.

While I can understand that people are disappointed that Wiggo won’t be riding, I don’t understand why people are so anti-Froome.

He isn’t the most charismatic of people, but he is Britains best chance of a win and despite this people will happily support Contador instead. Why?

If he were Italian or French, it would never happen.
I don’t care where he is born, or what grievances there are between himself and Wiggo – that is for him and the team to sort out. The country should get behind Froome now.

A single piggyback would double burn time, a triple would increase x3.
Essentially, the battery in the Diablo is the same as the one in a piggyback.

Schwalbe Koajks are perfect for wide rim 29ers.

Didn’t take long for this to turn into a “this is my bike, it must be the best” kinda thing.

If it doesn’t have DA, Super Record or Red then it isn’t ultimate.

Aperture is more about organising and storing photos. Think of it as a slightly better iPhoto.
It will do the basic editing things, but its not lightroom or photoshop.

Just finished off my blog, great to reminisce on a great weekend. Available here.

Was the “drunk” the guy who I saw rolling around in the grass on the climb after the red bull descent?
He was shouting various lines of encouragement.

In general, CX bike will have slacker HA, bigger tyre clearance and higher BB.
Gearing on a full bike will also be lower.

Fit a CX bike with road tyres & gears and they are pretty similar.

^ Agreed, Red Bull section was about having a clear run and some brave pills for the final left hander where the timing finish was.

Great for the family as they have a kids skills area setup. Can’t comment on the course, but heard good things.

Mixture of riders from those taking it fairly seriously (but its not a race) to those just enjoying the riding.
On the 25k it will be more of the latter.

What a great weekend.
Loved the course and it struck a good balance between being fun, challenging enough and rideable for most. Maybe less climbing in the last 1/3 mind as so many were walking.

Such an amazing battle for Open Male team with my Pivot Boompods buddies. George and his Salsa team really made it very special. Racing hard for 24 hours and in the end it came down to just a handful of seconds, absolutely incredible!

Such a close solo mens race too, only 4 minutes there I think? Nice work by Jason Miles.

Roll on next year with a more amenable sponsor and hopefully back at Gatcombe.

I had a similar incident a few months back and the police said they couldn’t do anything as it was my word against his.

Don’t expect them to do much, unless you have witnesses/evidence.

I can’t see any reason why 2 x 11 wouldn’t work?
Keep the mech, cassette.

New chain and chainset, front mech and shifter.

Not sure why you would want to though mind.

Nissan Almera. Very reliable, but fairly boring.
GTi version is fairly quick by old hot hatch standards.

I’d recommend Small Batch Coffee.

Deliveries every 2 weeks (250g), always something nice and well presented.
It is a great way to try lots of new coffee.

Kinesis Aithein.

Seriously impressed with mine. I didn’t think it would compare to high end carbon frames, but it does and costs a fraction, so for £3k you will get a top spec build.

£600 – frame
£1000 – DA 9000 groupset
£500 – wheels
£400 finishing kit

Should get you a sub 7kg build

£500 change to head to the Alps/Dolomites and go ride some real mountains :D

LV seem to have a good policy.
Bike are not classed as personal possessions, therefore don’t need to be declared, regardless of value.

The away from home insurance cover is a much lower, £1500 limit though.
Standard cover includes outbuildings.

strava (and all the other websites) are a waste of time.

the best trails are the best because no-one else knows about them.

That also assumes that Strava only applies to MTB rides.

With digital EPO and the like, I guess you can’t blame people for being suspicious from time to time.

Before I got a Forerunner 101, I used a basic velcro watch strap and a standard Garmin mount with the smaller elastic bands. It worked, although probably not as well as the “proper” accessory.

USE make a really nice set of carbon road bars. The 44cm width are under 200g and have a lovely shape and neat cable routing features.

I’ve had a set for years and not a bad thing I can say about them.

The recent Sony screens are really good, good colour and motion.
Sound is useless on almost all new TV’s these days because they are so thin.

Ply for sure. Resists water and warping better.
Vohringer ply if you want to save weight and have the cash.

1/3 lighter than normal ply, but only really worth it if you are using lots of it, or if you want the veneer showing. It is very nice stuff though.

Have you tried the Cane Creek headset fit?
If the bike is on there, it will give the details.

you can get usb barcode readers ( these just behave like a keyboard – just another way of entering a number and hitting enter ) and it’s pretty easy to print your own barcodes. make these in to, or stick them to bracelets? laptop top and bottom, if the clocks are a bit out who cares? it’ll be the same for everyone.

I think the barcode is what they use for some Motocross enduros? Or at least the Red Bull one this weekend.
The problem is that you are relying on a 3rd person to scan the barcode, which might take them 1 second for one person and 5 seconds for another.

If the winning margins were big, then its not a problem, but some enduros are won by a couple of seconds.

AFAIK vehicle category can’t be changed.

You can change it to a motor-caravan, if you meet the requirements.

Lings also seems to be one of the most expensive I’ve seen.

They are just a broker, so some deals are cheap and others will be expensive. In general though, their “best” deals are usually very competitive.
No one else could get anywhere near the price we had.

There are some really good lease deals out there at the moment.
But, if you want extra options above the standard spec, then you will usually have to pay the full price of the options over the course of the lease.

Be wary of the leases with a big up-front fee. You can get good deals on 3+ deals.
The website might be a bit manic, but we had good service from Lings.

The VCLS seatpost is ace. I have the Ergon version and I think adding that to any race bike will make it comfortable.

So really, it comes down to angles and if you want a taller headtube.
