I recall watching a short animated film based on the Haywain, ooh, probably 40 years ago that just appeared on one of the 4 channels available back then probably just after home time from school.
It started off with the Haywain pic, then someone walked in and took the horse away, then the haywain got towed away and then the pond drained and something built on it and it basically mirrored the ‘progress’ and speed of change of the of the last couple of hundred years and ended with motorways being built across, above and beneath it.
It’s stuck with me to this day.
MTB-IdleFree MemberHi Gary,
I’m going to ride the 174km version of the sportive on Saturday and also to watch the pro’s on Sunday.
Seeing as we haven’t seen each other since we MTB’d in the surrey Hills circa Chocolate Foot era (although i think we crossed path’s on a London cycle commute once since then) you should probably look out for me and my 15 buddies in our slightly pretentious but worn for a reason* bespoke kit
Say hello if you see us.
* worn in memory of my mate Nick who introduced many of us to the delights of the RVV/Flanders but sadly took his own life last year.
Richard
MTB-IdleFree MemberI thought this was gonna be about white guys called Benji with dreadlocks bumming around the far east with just a trust fund to support them.
I’m out.
MTB-IdleFree MemberThis was on Instagram this week, scary likeness

(it’s General Patton by the way, not Trump)MTB-IdleFree MemberI saw your mommy (and your mommy’s dead) by Suicidal Tendencies. In fact almost anything by them is brutal but this one has the added point of interest that Puddle of Mudd blatantly ripped the riff for ‘She F%%%%%n Hates Me’
Institutionalized is a great track too (All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi)
MTB-IdleFree MemberI’ve got a big weekend ahead of me – I’m entering the world’s tightest hat competition.
I Just hope I can pull it off.
MTB-IdleFree Memberonly knew him through the forum but he was an inspiration and one of the good guys
RIP Troutie
MTB-IdleFree MemberThis is brilliant
This is the best thing you'll see on the internet today. ?? https://t.co/EontCzOKq6

MTB-IdleFree Memberstolen from the BBC but if Arsenal & Chelsea make it to the Europa League Final fans will have to make a 4,946-mile round trip to play a London derby in Asia on a Wednesday night
MTB-IdleFree MemberSome classics there and some as always that I haven’t heard before.
I’ve been thinking about this and although the title doesn’t mention it the words here are brilliant
“There’s a storm outside, and the gap between crack and thunder
Crack and thunder, is closing in, is closing in etc.”MTB-IdleFree Memberyeah but wasn’t the Citroen H van done under the old Edd regime so therefore whilst valid comment doesn’t really relate to the ‘new’ series/revamped format without Edd that is coming in for all the stick?
It’s TV folks, not real life.
MTB-IdleFree MemberDuring the cold snap in January local radio was warning that mothers in Chessington should wear two pairs of pyjamas when picking up the kids from school.
MTB-IdleFree MemberI agree with four. I have a Canyon Ultimate SL and always, always ride GP 4000sII’s in 25.
But for Flanders RVV last year I bought some 28’s.
They are nice and comfy but in my opinion the weight/rolling resistance difference is noticeably more for the 28’s.
We should all know by now that science, like statistics can be used to prove whatever you want to prove.
MTB-IdleFree Membert’s a shame that the current show format has changed so dramatically
Has it really changed? Okay so it’s been a bit Americanised, a bit more play acting for the camera but it’s still the same buy a car, do it up and sell it show that it ever was.
MTB-IdleFree MemberIt’s not just if you die AT work,
Yes we had an amusing day at work recently when one seemingly intelligent colleague let it slip that he thought he was only insured if he died AT work and about whether he could struggle into the office with an injury before shuffling off this mortal coil.
MTB-IdleFree MemberWhat about spelling and grammar mistakes?
Well I’m glad you bought that to the table. I pacifically asked you not to bring that up.
MTB-IdleFree Memberor host the video on pinkbike and then share the link on Facebook
MTB-IdleFree MemberI rode the Cingles last June, what a fantastic day that was, my best ever on a bike.
Not sure I would particularly want to do even one ascent on an MTB but each to their own. There were 5,000 Belgians doing a sportive on the day I was riding and they were on all sorts of BSO’s with one guy even riding/stepping on an elliptic (sp.?) bike.

MTB-IdleFree MemberDon’t forget he is a source of many quotes too.
yup, my favourite Churchill quote is “one should never believe everything one reads on the internet”
MTB-IdleFree Membersorry to hear that fella. I was hit in a similar fashion by some bloke who cut the corner as he turned right and was totally on my side of the road.
All good advice above but be prepared for the police to say no video evidence, nothing to see here, move along now, not interested.
MTB-IdleFree MemberNormally I think choosing the backing track to a video is one of the most important things and it’s important to get it right.
But here’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. No backing track; just trail sounds, uplifts, cowbells and my trusty DT Swiss rear hub.
I quite like it.
Best viewed with errr…sound
MTB-IdleFree MemberCertainly no more than another team that springs readily to mind 😉
nope, they ain’t my team either
MTB-IdleFree Membermaking a short film is easy, see above comments re you tube etc.
making it interesting to other people is the trick and that is a whole different ball game.
it usually requires a creative mind and some technical skills though IMHO.
a basic approach would be like any story and it should have a beginning, a middle and an end
MTB-IdleFree MemberGreat thread, good work on the creative responses.
Boring answer; don’t faxes now work through your office printer (assuming you work in a decent sized office)?
MTB-IdleFree MemberDo we have to moan about folk doing this every January? Do what you want, ya fannies.
Which reminds me, I’m doing it too but it’s a bit unfair on my wife.
I mean, no foreplay for a month.
MTB-IdleFree MemberI’ve got a 2006 Allez Comp with 105. I acquired it circa 2009 crash-damaged from a work colleague for £100 as he had hit a car and broken the carbon fork. I bought a new carbon fork for circa £50 and fitted it and have used it for commuting duties since then.
I’m lucky enough to be multi-biked but I love the Allez, it’s so smooth and a real do it all bike.
According to Strava I’ve covered 24,860km on it but I’v only been recording since circa mid-2012. another few thousand can easily be added to that.
MTB-IdleFree MemberMy resolution is to give up making promises that I can’t keep
MTB-IdleFree MemberDistance 6,717 km plus another 60 odd that i need to update when i finish my ride home from the office this afternoon
Time 300h 18m
Elev Gain 57,632 m
Rides 156
Biggest ride 244 km
Biggest climb 1,656 mI fell far short of my annual target of 10,000 km due to a badly broken wrist due to MTB in Les Gets at the start of July leading to four months off the bike so i didn’t do too badly considering.
I was born in imperial times but use metric now as i mostly road ride and everything in the road cycling world is in metric.
IMO Zwift/turbo trainer miles don’t count. Great fun and fantastic training but it ain’t cycling…
MTB-IdleFree MemberI know it was 15 years cos the original liner reached the end of it’s lifespan over the summer and i had to replace it

MTB-IdleFree Memberhi, yeah I did mine about 15 years ago, it’s still going strong. Dug down about two feet and then put brick walls on a concrete collar. It’s about 12’L x 7’W x 5’D and about 2,500 gallons.
4 inch bottom drain gravity fed filter into a big four box filter similar to this and then a 700gph pump back in via a UV tube and venturi
MTB-IdleFree MemberHoly thread resurrection Batman.
I’ve just got into the Sleaford Mods and just about anything they do fits the bill whilst also reinforcing all my southern softie prejudices about ‘the north’ (yeah yeah, I know, Nottz ain’t the norf. Well it is to me pal, orrrigght?).
Here’s a good one to start, I bet Jools has never seen anything like this before or since then:
MTB-IdleFree MemberA group of chaps, all aged 40, discussed where they should meet for a reunion lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons in Uxbridge because all the waitresses had big breasts and wore very short skirts.
Ten years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons in Uxbridge because the food and service was good and the beer selection was excellent.
Ten years later, at age 60, the friends again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons in Uxbridge because there was plenty of parking, they could dine in peace and quiet, and it was goodvalue for money.
Ten years later, at age 70, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons in Uxbridge because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had a toilet for the disabled.
Ten years later, at age 80, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Wetherspoons in Uxbridge because they had never been there before.
MTB-IdleFree MemberMotorhead, Hammersmith Odeon, 1982. I was in the second row and as soon as they came on we jumped over the seats and were leaning up against the stage, so close that it felt like your eyebrows were being singed when the smoke bombs went off.
MTB-IdleFree MemberRush Hour obvs.
Although you probably want to try to find a version with the bad language cut out. So that would be about 4 minutes left This four minutes in fact.
Whoops, no, the n-bomb dropped in the first sentence…
