oh and yes, my neighbour in his late 70's who spent all day one weekend removing a trunk turning down my offer of assistance had a heart attack and died the next day too.

as this is in the riding forum i was gonna suggest leaving them there and building a ramp up one side of them to make them fun trail obstacles.

    As it is, either

    a) take a small cup of petrol and pour onto top of stump. leave overnight to soak in. repeat for a couple of weeks until the petrol has soaked in well and truly (if only just cut down it will work its was right down to the roots). Set it alight and it will burn the top off whilst the roots will smoulder for a few days and that will be that

    b) take all the coniferous bits you have just cut off the trunk and lay them around the stump and have a bonfire. this will burn the stump to the ground. Conifers burn really well even when 'green'

a picture of your cockpit set up would help too but as above, relax grip, ride smoother, take up bowls instead?

always had great service from them. Posted a brake that I couldn't bleed myself and they sorted it out for free and returned within 5 days. Rang up for some bolts for disc and they sent out same day free etc.

According to Wiggo it was deliberate (the yellow jersey ting not the Cav sprint)

Bradley Wiggins in Besançon after today’s 14th stage of the 2009 Tour:

“We thought George had the jersey at one (point), then [Garmin team manager] Matt White said to start chasing at the end so they didn’t get it. Columbia were going off a bit and it all got a bit chaotic. There was pidgin German being spouted all over the place."

cynic-al, I hope your gast has been suitably flabbered.

Having been around this site for a while I would have thought you would know better than to underestimate people's propensity to buy any old tat for high prices especially if it has some niche value (albeit the OP's bike looks nice).

Flatboy, I'm really impressed that your dad is Claude Butler, I thought Claude was just an imaginary figure like say, Captain Birdseye.

a camera effectively mounted on the seatpost. Its more isolated from bouncing than a bar mount,

presumably only if you are riding a full suspension bike otherwise it’s bouncing far more than a bar mount (again, presumably if you are using suspension forks)

it’s an interesting viewpoint but for me IMHO five minutes of what is effectively the same shot (at a 45 degree angle for some reason) is too long.

If it’s just a record of a ride, that’s fine but if you want a watchable video you should change mounting positions from fork to frame to helmet to backward looking etc. and cut the shots together.

Take the music video approach where a segment of film of say 15 seconds is the maximum length before changing to another shot.

Another rider in shot the majority of the time always makes a video more interesting too.

But it’s all a matter of opinion and as i said already, as a record of you and your mate riding the Jetlag trail (is that new, I don’t know it) it does what it says on the tin.

I’ve been to both a number of times in my role as international high flying financier/drugs mule and would suggest Guernsey.

IMO its prettier and more likely to appeal to SWMBO but the waterfront at St Peter Port has lots of nice restaurants close together and is a pleasant evening out.

Last time i was in Guernsey, the cabbie radio’d back to control “avoid the junction of xxx and xxx, there’s a tailback”.

I looked out the rear mirror to see just four, yes four cars sitting at a junction!

drilling would no doubt work but you could also try using a screwdriver on the rear of the chainring bolt. Don’t forget that this has a slotted bit on it as per the picture below (which features a Torq bolt but it’s the first pic i found).

Put a suitable sized screwdriver in and turn it round to loosen off the bolt from the rear.

Of course, it may just spin but if its been in there a while there will be enough dirt and gunk in there to give resistance so that it loosens off.

go to a reasonably large bike shop and ask if they have any odd ones in the ‘spares’ or out back, even second hand. Can often sort one out this way.

+1 for French revolutins by Tim Moore. Its funny and you can relate to it as its an ordinary bloke riding the route rather than some kind of superman figure.

It’s not too far off where you want it to be anyway. Why not get a different stem with bolts placed more in the middle rather than that rather odd one which has bolts at the extreme ends of the stem.

I also rode part of the Kerry Way, a 217 kilometre trail but mainly for walkers.

Steep rocky slopes (up) followed by boggy flat followed by some bridleway all interspersed with gates and stiles evey 500m or so which require lifting the bike over the locked gate and clambering over a 7 or 8 rung ladder in your SPD’s. It was hard work but the scenery is breathtaking

all the stanes have maps and are well signposted.

Take the map with you and check where you are on the route versus the numbered signposts and then you can make the best riding decisions i.e I know where i am and i want to go to the top of this next black run or avoid it at all costs etc..

are you trying to remove the cranks?

If so, i did exackerly the same as this recently. I think it’s the retaining cap made out of chocolate, not you.

On my set, I simply put the allen key in the inner ring and undid it and it pushed the crank off still with the retaining cap still in place. May work for you, it may not.

Edit, just checked here on my favourite site and it looks like you don’t need to touch the retaining cap anyroad up!

A common problem, if in the past it wasn’t fitted correctly, tightened enough the crank arm would wear and never be right again.

Can maybe pick up another crank arm from a decent sized bike shop that has some old/used/spares ‘out back’

what was your buddy’s reason for selling it?
