I got one of these Tranz X tt's brand new for £40 from ebay in March this year. There was a company selling loads but cant see it now but as for the trainer it does the job. Holds the bike steady, has seven variable speeds and got me fit for the summer

from what i've read I'm assuming you are on an extended holiday and aren't working so cant see why you would need to worry about paying tax (on what?).

Do it while you can and don't look back

a female rider with head injuries being attended to by two ambulances and some police cars too. :(

Friday night, dark, raining and halfway down Tooting High Street on the corner of Hebdon road which is a notorious junction where cars stick their noses right out/pull out without spotting riders

    lol at Andy

I use mine for the 'normal' secondary biking purposes i.e. double bagging your inner tubes for added puncture protection or wrapping around the chainstay as a cheap form of protection

the purist – Like it. Here's another one

“Just as a good airline pilot should always be looking for places to land, so should a lawyer be looking for situations where large amounts of money are about to change hands.

In every big transactions there is a magic moment during which a man has surrendered a treasure, and during which the man who is due to receive it has not yet done so. An alert lawyer will make that moment his own, possessing the treasure for a magic microsecond, taking a little of it, passing it on. If the man who is to receive the treasure is unused to wealth, has an inferiority complex and shapeless feelings of guilt, as most people do, the lawyer can often take as much as half of that bundle, and still receive the recipients blubbering thanks.”

as karin of 9 says, it's to do with the cassette teeth not the frame.

If you have say 11-34 then you will struggle with a short cage but if you have 11-32 you may just about get away with it.

Hmmm. robdob, you point out that you don't want to antagonise car drivers then highlight how you do exactly that when you 'fight back'.

Not disagreeing with you just pointing out the inconsistency

a lovely autumn mist in Nonsuch park. I keep meaning to take my camera with me again but never seem to get organised.

I also saw circa 100 other riders and did a bit of 'silly commuting racing' with a bloke on a singlespeed along the long, straight, flat section from Oval to Elephant and Castle.

We are (mostly) grown men riding bicycles. If you are trying to look attractive to the opposite sex then you're in the wrong game.

i wear disposable lenses from D&A. Worn them for about 15 years for sport and 'going out' purposes only. wear specs the rest of the time. About £15 pm for 10 pairs. They arrive by post

They are great, fit and forget then throw away come the end of the day.

I used to wear protective shades over the top but suffered with them fogging up as per your comments. Now i just ride with no protection and it's much better (ooh err!).

    do it!

You are just taking time to warm up. As mentioned above, depending on location/as applicable:

    – ride to the start instead of driving
    – do some proper stretching before the ride
    – get there early and go out for a quick spin to warm up

If all that fails you will just have to live with it or give up MTB'ing and take up needlework instead.

Thing is if an 18 year old falls off they get injured too, there really is no reason to stop.

Not nesser-celery. 18 year old's tend to bounce much better than someone in their 40's who will generally land like a sack of shit.

As you get older you aren't so resistant to falls either and take far longer to heal.

Watch out for that hip Grandad!

    No need to stop tho.

don't think so, the point is you either love singlespeeding or you hate it. I don't see a mech hanger making a difference.

I will mainly be riding with freeridenick, Dango, stopadoodledoo and a female rider on another forum and film them whilst they all show me how to ride like a freeride god.

I will then edit the film and share it with you next week so that we can all bow down and realise how unworthy we are.

Richard, a female rider commented on another forum:

Who is Richard Sear? Just watched that video he did on the Downs of about a million middle aged men with their back wheels completely locked, dragging the sh1t out of what was probably a very nice trail.

    Cheers Dango,

Yup, that's me. Nope, haven't seen it. There's other forums??? Middle-aged men? Can't think who she's talking about…

BTW, as GlenP regularly states, Leith Hill isn't 'on the Downs' so it clearly wasn't my video!

i think the answer is no but not sure why. Probably as stated in your question that the width is different

Blimey, do you do an awful lot of miles?

Covered 2,500 miles since 2nd March and changed brake pads once and expect to change them again in a couple of months so yes, every 4 months is probably correct.

It's commuting in that ole London town place, lots of braking to avoid cars, buses, lorries other riders etc. and obviously for stopping at all those red lights

Actually on my old commute of 15 miles (each way) I used to go through 94 sets of traffic lights (each way). I am now commuting 18 miles each way on a similar route but haven't been arsed to count them so far.

Slight thread hijack but can anyone beat that?

the plastic outer is NOT part of a seal, it merely protects your expensive frame from the abrasive hose inside.

You will find differing instructions for Goodridge as up to about 2007 (guesses here) you had to cut off 11mm but from that date onwards they reduced the diameter and put stickers on the box explicitly advising you not to cut off the outer.

Here's how I did it including my tip of screwing in the banjo to the hose BEFORE fitting the compression collar to create the thread. Then remove, fit compression collar and then screw in again.

Adding a tiny drop of brake fluid also acts as a lubricant and makes it easier too.

yup, that's one of the joys of road riding.

Every morning i go out to the garage, get on the bike and ride (commute) and put it away every evening and never a problem. The occasional lube of the chain and replace the brake pads every 3 or 4 months.

Armadillo tyres mean I don't get any punctures either.

Compare that to the amount of maintenance required and downtime on the MTB; it's ridiculous.

Ha ha – saw you videoing the section just off the top of the tower. We were the two standing at the bottom of the drop

Hi HeiHei (ha ha, ho, ho)

I was the first rider down and took the slightly harder line off to the right (looking down from the top) on the Prince Albert. My riding buddy was at the top filming those bits. Are your efforts going up on the net somewhere? I'm always interested in seeing fellow locals riding/videoing efforts.

Mikey74, yes, it's pretty much all on Leith Hill. Come out with us next time and I'll show you round.

Re the brake dragging, yes there was a bit of that going on but I'm not going to try and defend it, we were just a group of mates out on our bikes and for example, one of the blokes is aged 56 and first rode Deliverance earlier this year so good luck to him.

Actually, perhaps we could make it so that you had to pass some kind of test to be allowed to ride round there and then have to show your 'fit to ride' licence at the top of each trail before being allowed to ride it?

No-one was hurt, thanks for the concern to a couple of you who raised the question.

Sorry, it's not on youtube, I prefer Vimeo

FreerideNick, the bit after Deliverance that exits onto Waggledance (if you ride that direction rather than looping right round to Coldharbour) is the ancient boundary bank surely and not the roll-in itself?

cheers Hora, I use the movie mode on a Canon A550 and another rider also shot some on his Sony DSC-W55 so just two little compact cameras really

bought my road bike thru the ride to work scheme too.

Had it for about 15 months and didnt ride to work but used it for those really wet weeks in the winter when you just know the trails are gonna be wet and miserable.

Also rode it the odd evening for a quick spin when its just easier than an mtb as you can go much further, faster.

Then started to commute in March this year and my fitness has gone thri the roof resulting in my weekend MTB rides being much more enjoyable.

    Do it!
