Cool, I’ve been waiting for Strava to do this as it’s the final piece in my business plan.

I’ve created a program that takes Strava data and maps it onto the traffic light controller system data to identify RLJ’ers.

This then links to a financial organisation’s pricing and billing engine that will automatically generate FPN’s to offenders.

I will then sell this to the various Police Forces around the country.

This time next year Rodney, I’ll be a millionaire!

Yo man! Im from the USA, Ive been a big fan of the United since they were formed in 1993!
Last night was my 1st game at the Old Trafford United Stadium! I ran into some buddies from home, Chad and Troy! They go once a year and have all the latest jerseys and scarves, the Norwich City one and Umbro ones too!
Everyone was real nice to us, I didn’t realise you guys all talk with London accents, thats so cool!
I just really wish we came last week instead because we heard we missed the open top bus parade for the Champions League Quarter Final Cup. Man we’re real upset about that!
I was a little confused on why you had a fire drill last night with 5 minutes to go? We followed everyone else out and missed City’s final touchdown too!
Hope to see you guys next year, we’ve already applied for a couple of Champions League tickets for next season so see you all then! Laters

    Rule #Y

No rider shall be ready to go at the agreed time, they must first spend a minimum of twenty minutes sorting out their shit in the car park before finally announcing that they’re “about set”.

that’s known as the ‘car-park faffage’ rule.

For me it’s the ‘always have fun’ rule with the expanation simply the quote from Jacquie Phelan (or Alice B. Toeclips):

Until mountain biking came along, the bike scene was ruled by a small elite cadre of people who seemed allergic to enthusiasm.

Sat with my legs off the table my feet point slightly outwards.

and when you clip in and stand on the pedals and look down are your feet in the same position (excepting the table)?

    MTB-Idle

Re your last question if it’s caused by wrong positioning or a loose cleat you just need to sort it out and carry on riding.

You shouldn’t ride without sorting it out tho’ as this will just aggravate matters

My guess is that it’s cleat alignment or a loose cleat. Have you checked the bolts on the cleats? If one is loose the shoe will move around maybe not enough for you to notice but your ankle muscles definitely will feel the pain as they try to keep your foot steady.

Increase in mileage or increased climbing or wrong saddle height would likely affect your knees before your ankle.

How did you set the cleats up? Did you do the ‘sit on the edge of a table and let your feet dangle’ trick to see how in what position your feet naturally rest and then replicate this on the cleats?

Check the cleat bolts and positioning and report back.

I’m doing well, currently in 4th place on the table with 1317 miles YTD and enjoying my riding (well apart from the odd miserable one) but am extending my route home from my normal 18 miles to 22 to 25 miles depending on how I feel.

He can’t work out if it’s hub bearings or loose spokes.

Surely this should be quite an easy one to deduce??

The ones from Wheelsfar seem to get the best reviews and are silly light, but the website seems to be offline…

you would be surprised. Most of them don’t know the first thing about bike build/servicing they just take it to the LBS to do it for them.

I was talking to one guy I’ve known for years. He’s 100% roadie but has ridden for 20 years plus, has ridden alpine climbs, rides with a club etc. I was telling him I had changed my rear cassette and he looked at me in amazement when I told him I’d done it myself and asked how I’d done it.

Others have no idea how to change a bottom bracket or a chainset. Another one was intrigued by a power link. Another guy only ever used innner tubes once and threw thme away each time he punctured etc…

(They are clearly paid more than me!).

not me but a bloke at work bought some through a contact at his club a few months ago. He just reported last week that the rear wheel has ‘gone a bit wobbly’. He can’t work out if it’s hub bearings or loose spokes.

about 10 of his club bought them. He and 1 other had a problem. The other got a free replacement.

    They were these wheels apparently

if we are talking about the Endomondo ting then it’s taken me 3d:02h:34m to ride 1012.77 miles this year. So I make that 74 hours 34 minutes (I’ll give you the extra 12.77 miles for nothing).

Not bad for an old grey haired man commuting in central London traffic

Very interesting thread. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and this has convinced me to upgrade my desktop.

Re the Corsair SSD up there recommended by GeForce Junky what connectors will this require and are they likely to be in my existing PC?

I’ve got a reasonable spec PC but I’m still running Vista, more a sign of how old it is (possibly 5 years plus) rather than preference for operating system. Is this likely to have the right connector?

go down to your LBS or even local chain and ask them nicely if they have any left hand cranks in the spares bin.

They will quite often have these as leftovers from where people have replaced cranksets on off the shelf bikes or where they have simply lost the other part.

They will usually give you a good price too.

It’s tough in this weather but if you have the right kit and MTFU then you can get out there and ride. Rule #9 etcetera

Mainly doing my distance on my commute to work. It’s all going well to date even in this stormy weather. But have managed to get out a number of times on my MTB too. Surrey Hills are okay if you pick your spot.

January 600 miles (despite having cracked two ribs falling off my MTB on 2nd Jan)
February 280 miles to date and feeling good

I haven’t read the whole thread but is there a spreadsheet/strava club page/other site where you are all posting up your distance?

MTB-idle do you commute that distance through London out of interest?

    Hi Chris (or hi Ibn),

Yes I do, from Ewell in Surrey just outside Greater London I head to Morden and then follow the Northern Line on CS7 to Elephant & Castle.

Turn right along New Kent Road and then across Tower Bridge and then out to Canary Wharf via either the Highway or CS3 depending on how I’m feeling.

Here’s an old video of mine that’s been seen on here a few times but it shows my full commute in all it’s Winter glory:

Hi Alan, as you probably know I use Crud Roadracer II’s. I have them on my Bianchi, Spesh Allez and Trek 1200. Not found a frame they wouldn’t fit yet although others seem to have issues.

Even in the worst conditions they keep the major cack off my frame and torso.

Give me a call if you need any servicing, happy to help you.

yup, been cycle-commuting all year round for six years now. 18 miles (28km) each way for me, 7,500 miles (12,000 km) per annum.

For the last few weeks have been extending my route home to 25 miles just cos I can.

Once you do it as long as i have it becomes second nature and it’s more painful to get the train/tube.

Decent kit is the most important thing, there’s no such thing as bad weather etc.

Was nice and windy today and CS7 was rammed due to the tube strike but I still enjoyed it.

Edit: Oh, and mudguards, Crud Roadracer II’s make a big, big difference to the whole winter experience. Add them to an old road bike that you don’t care about whether it gets ruined or not and jobs a good’un.

DHB are great. I have numerous pairs and use them for daily commuting.

If you want warmth then go for the ‘Roubaix’ model (not just DHB, most brands of bib shorts have a roubaix model) as this means they have the brushed fleecy inner which will keep you nice and warm.
