they are all pretty good around there. Three weeks ago a mate cracked his AM LB carbon rim totally in half on the Swiss national. He had to hike a bike back tot he top of the course and then down various lifts back to Morzine but once he arrived they rebuilt his wheel the same afternoon and he was back out riding Pleney black at 4pm

I was in Calais on Monday afternoon heading back after my second week in t’alps this year when i saw a car with a strange storage arrangement.

a Thule towbar mounted rack on the back with what looked like a roofbox sitting sideways on aforementioned rack.

I have no idea if this is a standard arrangement or some kind of Heath Robinson bodge but it looked weird and made me do a big double-take.

I think you have answered your own question re making a Zafira more aero but perhaps experiment on a couple of longish drives using your cars MPG function?

A mate found that rear rack mounted bikes were most aerodynamic on a golf when he had the sunroof tilted up at the rear to deflect the air over them.

Go pro session for me. £150 and does all you want it to. It’s the smallest and lightest option and you can shoot loads of footage on a 64gb card available separately for about £12.

Many, many camera’s take similar or even better quality footage but GoPro’s advantage was always the ease/variety/security of mounting the camera on your self/bike/lid/whatever.

Others have now caught up with the mounting options but GoPro are the originals.

I would however buy all the mounts from eBay as the Gopro branded mounts are ridiculously expensive. They all fit onto the camera mounting as if they were branded stuff.

However: be prepared for all the gnarly footage that you shoot on hols to look rather lame, slow and flat when you return to base.

A colleague received this one the other day:

    Subject: Incident ref xxxxxxx

Message: Sorry, my fault, added correct parameter, but after not before where required, later fixed, but not saved.
Now must be fine. Please retest.

    He also received this one:

    Subject Program Test manager availability

Message: Apologies – have to reschedule, caught a cold on way to office.

I had one flapping on my big toe through playing football many years ago.

Sam, my eldest son and heir was about three and i called him to come to me for a cuddle. He ran forwards and as he reached me he managed to kick the end of my toe and rip off the toe nail as it pushed back against the flap of skin still holding it on (I can still feel it now just typing this).

I howled and cursed and my wife peed herself laughing. Sam just looked confused.

    At least it was quick.

He’s 25 now, I can send him around if you like?

I’ve had the 500 for about 3 years now and it performs flawlessly until the number of rides in the activities folder gets beyond a certain point.

Probably due to bad programming (no surprise there with Garmin) the more files you have on there the slower the thing seems to run.

Connect Garmin to your PC, open activities folder and cut all the activities out of there and paste them into a folder on your hard drive.

Garmin will then run as if new…

Oooh I like that relive programme

Did you take the lift down at the end ?

Oops! Yes we wimped out of the black run back into Morzine, rode it once, it was sh1t, didn’t want to ride it again. The blue route back was 3km of bone shaking boring fireroad, rode it once, didn’t want to ride it again.

The Relive Strava utility is indeed ace.

I was there last week. After arriving in torrential rain on Saturday (travel day only, no riding) it was bone dry all week. I stuck to the DH trails but there’s plenty on offer. Chatel and Swiss National DH are great fun and easily accessible and our favourite was the Chesery or Cheesy Cow trail as we referred to it.

IMHO following the PDS route is a fairly miserable experience and misses out the best bits

    Here’s a typical day’s ride

Oh and Bar Robinson is no longer the place to be seen in the ‘Zine, it’s now Le Cottage at the foot of the Pleney lifts.

However, you can certainly compare and contrast the determination, fortitude, skill under pressure, organisation, team spirit and professionalism of our English national rugby and football teams. The rugby team having just won the Grand Slam and whitewashed Australia 3-0, the “A” Team having won in SA and the U-20 side having won the World Championship for the 3rd time in 4yrs

errr..do you remember just a few short months ago our rugby team’s ignominious dumping out of it’s ‘own’ home world cup?

It’s the coach. We have some half decent players they just need to play in a modern system that works for them under a world class coach.

    Hodgson = Lancaster

    Now who = Jones?

    Too big for me.

Slight thread derail but I’m off there on Friday for a week. Any local updates re the trails, weather etc.?

According to a guy I follow on strava (I rode the Surrey hills with him a couple of times) they had a day’s torrential rain earlier this week and there’s some trails closed but he didn’t know where they were and of course Crankworx looked a total washout in Les Gets.

(I’ve been there a number of times so yes I know it rains, well except for last year when it was 42 degrees plus I have a better grasp of the trails than my Strava buddy does).

that is standard ‘fun’ betting procedure.

Never bet on your own team to win, it’s a double heartache if they lose.

Do you need the Garmin to monitor/manage this?

Can’t you just go out riding together, MTB one day, road the next?

Von Ketteringham – it’s err… about painting toy soldiers for wargaming.

I haven’t wargamed for about twenty five years but VK is my cousin and was my main opponent so I still enjoy watching what he’s up to and he is an amazingly good painter.

apparently both Ford and Farrell have been cited following Saturday’s triumph.

Here’s the photographic evidence – that’s a clear gouge from Ford and a straight arm from Farrell. dirty f%&*ers

    what jerseychaz says.

If you are young free and single and don’t have a mortgage to pay, baby to feed then go for it. If not then weigh up everything very carefully. you wont make as much money as you think especially for the first few years after set up.
