VW Tiguan 2.0 diesel here, Bluemotion, 150BHP, post VW scandal so adblue tank in it already.

Don’t know what MPG I averaged but two fully laden trips to the alps this summer and it was much, much cheaper than the V70 I took last year.

18 miles (28 km) each way from leafy Surrey into the wilds of London via Cycle Superhighway 7, over Tower, London or Southwark bridge depending on how I’m feeling and out to Canary Wharf.

75 minutes and 119 sets of traffic lights each way with various options to extend to say 25 miles (40 km) e.g. home via Richmond Park on nice summer evenings.

I ride it all year round.

    Yes,it’s been great thanks.
My boys are now men and get why their old man likes cycling so much.

S’great innit! Was at the top of the Col du Forclaz in July watching Froomedog, Sagan et al racing through having ridden up the Cat 1 climb with my two boys a number of hours earlier in an average 40 degree C heat.

enjoying a cold beer with the boys at the top was perfect and the descent was fun too.

a great Summer thanks, three cycling holidays in Italy (road) Morzine (DH MTB) and Les Gets (road with my two adult sons) plus a late spring cycling trip to Bruges (road) as well as a family holiday to the costa del sol plus numerous lengthy day long rides e.g. London to Brighton etc.

I also can’t particularly remember there being too much rain on my daily cycle commute and I’ve topped it all off by ordering a new road bike which is due to arrive next week.

So all in all pretty good.

I was on the costa del sol a few weeks ago and a number of beachfront restaurants had a roaring fire/BBQ on the beach with multiple sardines skewered horizontally onto metal/wooden skewers and the skewers then just stuck vertically into the beach close to the fire/bbq.

Timing is key I suppose i.e. not over or undercooked.

    EDIT: a bit like this

I had the long sleeved soft shell Endura jacket for years and the sleeves were very tight and eventually split along the seams.

So this prompted me to get a short sleeved Gabba 2 as this too is skin tight and I thought the constant putting on and removing would wear the seams in the same way. Worn with Nanoflex arm warmers, nice and toasty

EDIT: wear from circa 4 to 8 degrees with arm warmers. Through the winter I wore beneath another soft shell jacket for warmth down to zero degrees. They are quality pieces of kit

I used to write/edit/own a credit risk assessment policy.

The above is good advice re paragraphs, heading on new pages etc.

I would include examples and use funny names or my own surname for the business names to give myself lasting immortality e.g. “Pain in the Glass, a local glaziers, wants to borrow £15,000 for blah de blah de blah”

When I rode from London to Bruges with two mates in May we didn’t want to carry much with us so we shipped a photocopier paper sized box full of overnight clothes etc to the hotel through a mate who is a director of a courier company.

He did it for me at ‘cost’ for £20. Split between three of us that was a bargain.

Haven’t ridden St Martha’s for a while. very sandy but some good trails over there. Don’t forget to add llamas to the list of other trail users to be careful of when riding around those trails (surely you’ve seen the llama walkers around there?)

The A24, one of a few roads that have inspired a song

    ‘Boxhill, Boxhill ‘ere we come,
    I ain’t ‘appy till I’ve reached a ton,
a cup a splosh and a greasy dog,
I’m happy when I’m riding me hog’

    Great lyrics

I have to say I have mixed feelings about this (I’m a Libra, what did you expect).

I live in Epsom and know that stretch of road well having driven it a thousand times and ridden it about half that number of times on both MTB and skinny tyred road bike.

I don’t like the thought of cyclists being banned from certain roads (other than motorways) because it sets a dangerous precedent.

But I have never ridden that section on the road, I always use the cycle lane (both North & South) out of a sense of self-preservation just because it’s so bloomin’ dangerous. I do tend to sigh when I see roadies (for it’s rarely MTB’ers), riding along that section of road although I fully accept that they have every right to do so.

The riders who chance crossing the fast moving traffic as they dart out from Westhumble Street frankly just scare me. It’s much easier to use the underpass

Oh and I’m not in any way a nervous rider, I cycle-commute 36 miles a day into central London and back including such perambulatory delights as Tooting High Street (the closest thing to a shoot em up video game in real life you will ever experience), Clapham Common, Elephant & Castle, Tower Bridge and/or the Embankment so I’m comfortable in traffic.

The Regency – end of thread

Along towards Hove right opposite the new viewing tower.

On the sea front, bike friendly, tons of outdoor seating, food ranges from a bacon & egg sarnie to a large cod and chips for decent prices.

Ah, fellow cap wearers, I’m glad I’m not alone I only got a Castelli one as it’s big enough for my melon head and is thin enough to fit under my Mavic helmet

Large head here too and yes, Castelli is one of the few brands that fits me.

INRNG do a nice line in cheap caps too with a large option available and I used to wear one of those until the peak bent

I wear mine in hot weather, in fact when I climbed the Forclaz a few weeks ago to watch the TDF it was 40.9 degrees average temperature and I had my cap on.

Why? Cos the sweat running off me was unbelievable and if that runs into my eyes which it often used to pre-cap wear, it stings like buggery, especially as I’m wearing contact lenses too.

It also prevent the sun shining in my eyes.

It was wringing wet when I got to the top but it did the job.
