In short there aren’t any/many depending on whether you live north, south east or west.
However as long as you aren’t aiming for Strava PB’s then any and all practice is good.
I live in the relatively flat south east but still manage to train myself and my two sons (25 and 23) for our annual trip to follow the TDF with our bikes to tackle those HC and Cat 1 climbs successfully.
It’s more about stamina (and determination) on those 5% or 6% slopes so just build up the length and frequency of your riding as well as chucking some nice climbs into your training regime.
MTB-IdleFree MemberNope, the GoPro studio lets you edit movies of any length, it’s not limited to 1 minute. He may be referring to the auto-movie function (or whatever it’s called, where you can use a template and then fill in your own movie clips) but if you are editing form scratch then there’s no time limit.
I find GoPro studio is decent enough for basic movies but is quite buggy and can crash a lot so save as you are editing.
Top tip; disable the auto-save function as this seems to contribute to a lot of the crashes.
MTB-IdleFree Memberwoman I worked with, her husband changed his name by deed poll to Virgil Tracy. She refused to change her name when they got married.
MTB-IdleFree MemberAjish Ajish Baby
(and no word of a lie; Ajish was pronounced in the way that Sean Connery would pronounce the word ‘ice’)
MTB-IdleFree MemberWe’ve just had two quotes against proper drawn up plans, local authority planning agreed for a rear, single story extension. I can remember the cost but i can’t recall the size. Will look it up later when i get home.
Quote are circa £50k plus VAT but include bifold doors and roof ‘lantern’ (glass pyramid type structure) with self-cleaning, solar reflective glass.
Don’t get a conservatory. Too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter plus add nothing to the value of your house cos the next person who buys it will say “Too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter” and in a few years time it will be looking shoddy, moss covered etc. and new owner will want to get it pulled down/replaced.
As you can see from the above, the quotes vary wildly and I guess that’s why builders don’t quote based on info gleaned from the internet but builders usually have a standard rate per square metre (or is it cubed, I can never remember).
Get a proper house extension.
MTB-IdleFree MemberGood stuff, glad that you are still going now that winter is here.
Drink plenty of water. No, more than that.
Get an HRM and learn about heart rate zones. Don’t mash big gears all the time, spin faster in higher gears. Learn about recovery rides in zones 1 and 2.
Keep riding.
MTB-IdleFree MemberAgain in the style of recommend what you know and bearing in mind that you haven’t mentioned if it’s solo, couple, w/kids, beach, walking or cycling holiday etc. then I would add Roseto Degli Abruzzi into the mix.
I was lucky enough to go there last June rent free due to an Italian cycling colleague at work.
Not a particularly ‘pretty’ town but it’s off the beaten track i.e. I didn’t see another Brit in five days (that’s good). But it has a beautiful beach and a busy town centre, loads of decent quality, cheap restaurants, pizzerias and
gilat,gellaice-cream parlours. It also has a bike shop that rents an alu Shimano 105-level road bike for 3 days for €60 and a load of local riders who are happy to meet up for a ride.
The beach was 100 metres away to my left and there were 3,000 metre mountains 25 miles away to my right. I would drop the good lady off at the beach in the morning and then go out for a four or five hour spin on my own.
Plenty of routes available to share via strava if you need them.
Closest airport is Pescara/Abruzzo with regular flights from Stanstead.
Here’s a vid of my cycling experiences showing some of the mountain/hill riding and fast forward to the last few seconds if you want to see the beach
Edit: mid 20’s temp wise, short sleeve riding weather and wife was able to sunbathe. Very nice for early June compared to the UK. We did have a heavy thunderstorm tho’ one morning. Additional vid available of Italian riding buddies and the thunderstorm/soaking I got.
MTB-IdleFree Membersurely if you set the ‘return to home’ function it will make it’s own way?
MTB-IdleFree MemberI’m way out of dating practice but I was sent this the other day by way of warning of the dangers of dating.
Gentlemen, what’s an absolute no-no for a girl to do on a first date? from AskReddit
Who thinks Chad is a hero?
MTB-IdleFree MemberChickenhawk is great. You really don’t see the ending coming.
at the moment I’m reading this
and this
MTB-IdleFree MemberThe hipster in my office has taken to wearing a sheepskin coat just like my dad used to wear when he drove our MkIII Cortina in the 70s
MTB-IdleFree MemberThe first day is easy, its the second, third, fourth, fifth, twelvety-hundred and seventy-seventh and ever onwards that gets you.
Take plenty of rest days and listen to your body. If you are exhausted don’t ride, take a day off (the bike).
MTB-IdleFree MemberMy brother had a car accident and had a neck brace fitted years ago. Since then he’s never looked back
MTB-IdleFree MemberMy mother-in-law came to lunch on Christmas Day. I haven’t spoken to her for two years – it’s not that we’ve fallen out, I just don’t like to interrupt her.
In truth I have a soft spot for her – it’s out in the garden behind the shed.
I bought her a chair for Christmas – let’s hope she plugs it in.
There you go – 3 for the price of 1 – God bless Les Dawson!
MTB-IdleFree MemberAt University I studied archaeology. I scraped through my exams.
Shall I stop yet?
MTB-IdleFree MemberPeople who use selfie sticks really need to take a long, good look at themselves.
MTB-IdleFree MemberAt primary school I was really proud of my mum cos she had loads of jobs.
She came in and did a show and tell assembly three times whilst I was there.
Once as a nurse, then a waitress and finally as a policewoman.
Turns out, she was a stripper.
MTB-IdleFree MemberI always lusted after a Mexico but ended up having a Ford Anglia (estate version), Cortina Mk II 1600 Super, Cortina Mk III 1.6GL and a Mk II Capri, gold with black vinyl roof and wide alloys.
Ford man through and through here.
Drive a VW SUV now #oldandboring
Edit: ooh, I forgot, I had a Mk II escort too
MTB-IdleFree MemberI dropped my Session 4 (deliberately) into a beer last July in Morzine as part of a planned video.
Never got around to editing the video and obvs didn’t rinse it off properly afterwards cos now the slide button for opening the card ‘hatch’ is a bit sticky…
MTB-IdleFree MemberDon’t know if this will sort your issues out

For a while I was using one of those plastic store discount cards to scrape the windscreen. Trouble is I only got 10% off.
Well I appreciated it, even if no-one else did.Cheers dude!
MTB-IdleFree MemberI really enjoy reading this thread although I have no specific vested interest.
I did suggest way back in the thread that ‘Driving Over Lemons’ was a good book to read with very similar circumstances to yours.
What appears to hold true from the book and the last few pages of experiences now that you have settled in is that it is all about community and helping out your neighbours.
What a fantastic place and way to live.

BTW,I had German-grown brussels sprouts with my Christmas lunch – they lied about those emissions too!
MTB-IdleFree Memberpretty sure we did this recently but essentially what Shandy says

I use a credit card for internet shopping as it isn’t linked directly to my bank account in the way that my debit card is. I have a standing order to pay the amount off each month.Don’t you mean a Direct Debit?
A STO is a fixed amount that you pay or ‘push’ to someone else. A DDR is an unfixed amount that someone else ‘pulls’ from your account.
MTB-IdleFree MemberI assumed he was just sticking all his old fluids (ahem) in the garage into one container to take down to the dump errr…recycling centre.
MTB-IdleFree Memberbeen scammed for some Vans?
I’m sure we can get to the foot of the problem.
Let’s hope you aren’t the sole victim.
The site looks like a load of cobblers.

– handlebar mount
– saddle mount for rear facing stuff
– helmet mount
– selfie stick, always good for unusual shotsand then when editing, pull a load of different shots together a bit like this (ok so it’s road bikes but you get the picture)
MTB-IdleFree MemberI had the original GoPro HD Hero back in 2010 and used it loads. It finally died in a downpour out in the Alps somewhere last year so I bought a GoPro Session 4 and have enjoyed using that ever since (didn’t even realise there was a Session 5 out until I read this thread).
Re what you should get really depends on firstly how much of a gadget-nerd you are i.e. do you enjoy playing with endless settings or do you just want to turn it on and record good quality footage and secondly what you are doing with the footage. If you are just going to mash it down to some level for youtube upload (other sites are available) then it seems pointless to get one with 4k definition.
I find the Session is much easier to use with it’s simple turn on and start recording, turn off and stop recording functionality.
Plus the smallness and lightness of it makes for better recording i.e. it doesn’t bounce around so much on my chesty mount or it’s not so heavy when mounted on my lid. See website link in profile for a vast selection of edited videos.

Spoilt rotten you lot. Our calendars had no doors to open because we couldn’t afford doors. You’d be faced with 25 empty little holes with no picture in them. You’d have to imagine your own door and a picture to go with it.
Luxury! We were so poor when I was young that you had to wake up on Christmas Day with a hard-on or else you had nothing to play with.
MTB-IdleFree MemberBeggars Banquet by the Stones that I bought when i was in the 6th form in the early 80’s. The white cover with the gatefold sleeve not the toilet wall version.
Obvs two outstanding tracks are Sympathy for the Devil and Street Fighting Man but I already had those on a ‘best of’ album so I was relying on the other tracks for my entertainment which I found a bit weak TBH.
In retrospect tho’ ‘Jigsaw Puzzle’, ‘No Expectations’ and ‘Prodigal Son’ are masterpieces and all the other tracks are strong with the exception of ‘Dear Doctor’ which I still see as a filler track. Combined with the original two classics that I mention up there then this is a great album.
On the other hand, I borrowed ‘Let It Bleed’ from Banstead library around the same time, bought my own copy shortly after. Loved it all then and still love it now.
MTB-IdleFree MemberI’ve never been on my own but I’ve been with TrailAddiction many times in a group when they add a solo rider into the group and we have always made them welcome. In fact I’m still active FB friends of many of those we ended up with.
The guides/group leaders of all companies are pretty good at ID’ing the abilities of all the riders and will put you in a group where you should feel comfortable.
If you don’t you just speak to the guides and they will change your group.
