you are making the process unnecessarily difficult.

Just buy it online and take to the LBS for servicing if you want to support them.

Do you carry any water with you when you ride?

Pound for pound the most effective weight saving is to pay a domestique to carry the bottle/camelbak around and pass it to you when you are thirsty

oh s*d it, I’m gonna share anyway. Here’s the vid including the infamous ‘shower Stella’ scene. Don’t worry, it’s safe for work.

I rode to Oxford (and back) two weeks ago heading out from Richmond Park. Nice route here that you could use as a base to adapt for your own porpoises:

EDIT: it was quite a ‘pretty’ route going through all those beautiful historic towns on the Thames (Henley, Marlow, Windsor, Slough ;-) can share a video if you like so that you get an idea of the roads

Can Rocco confirm the type of rider he is and whether he will benefit from all that applied mathematics up there or is he the typical biffer on a bike that could lose 20kg and not even notice but it’s the wheels that are slowing him down?

unless you are going to be riding with a support car then I would give them a miss.

I wonder what the weather will be like when they hit Troyes. It’s in Central France, no sea or alpine breezes.

We stopped overnight there on the way to last year’s Tour and went out for a late afternoon spin.

We covered circa 60km and it was 38C and really humid. You could hear the squelching of the tarmac sticking to our Conti GP 4000s II’s and feel the resistance.

Beautiful area though especially around the lake. What a ride.

Whatever happens its gonna have to be good to live up to this years Giro.

Froomedog would probably be favourite because of the strength of the Sky team support and errr…. any ‘extras’ they might or might not have but as above, lack of racing may or may not be a disadvantage.

TD can’t challenge this soon after the Giro.

Quintana looked sluggish in the Giro and having given it his all can’t challenge for Le tour.

I too will be somewhere near the top of each of the alpine stages with my bike and my three favourite riding buddies by my side. Roll on July.

@trailwagger, were they really exciting when everyone was on the sauce? LA ‘winning’ seven times on the bounce was a bit boring wasn’t it?

Never had a problem with my 500 (circa 5 years) or second hand 800 (6 months) but agree that some units do appear to have issues.

Cycling buddies are reporting good things about the Lezyne range of GPS units

although what you are trying to do is admirable my recommendation would be to walk away completely from this. you are not on the hook for this at all.

There are tried and trusted laws/procedures in place for all this.

you will only get dragged in deeper and deeper and end up putting your own business, health, relationship at risk.

My Great British Regiments cap badge collection from Texaco I’ve had for over 40 years. Turns out it’s valued at about fifteen quid

The same goes for my Esso 1970 world cup coin collection, and 1974 and 1978 etc etc…

    Track 40 on Belmont/Banstead Downs

Or go and visit Pearson Cycles in Sutton High Street, supposedly the oldest cycle shop in the world (that is still open). Browse around, have a chat, ask them what’s going on locally.

Good call re the limitations of Powerline adaptors but depending on OP’s requirements I would try those first and see how he gets on.

if it works; great! If not only then does he need to get the drill out.

Not sure if this is true or an urban myth but I understand that at the BP office in Canary Wharf if they have booked a meeting room for 8 people and 9 turn up i.e. more than the room is allocated to hold then rather than drag another chair into the room they will cancel/re-arrange the meeting.

It’s supposed to be related to strict adherence to guidelines cos of like, well being on oil rigs n ever’thang.

EDIT: Oh dear, i have been ‘Etna’d’ as we would say at work. didn’t read the whole thread and already been mentioned on previous page(s)

Most things I was going to mention have already been covered.

Be patient and stay calm. Be prepared to unwind it all and do it again properly. Make sure you know how to go around the levers (a few different ways of doing this including figure of eight or using the extra bit).

Whatever you do don’t start at the top of the bars or be prepared to be laughed at for the rest of your brief roadie career.

Don’t leave home with shonky bar tape.

lots of threads on this already and those who prefer driving will insist it is easier and cheaper and those who prefer flying will insist the opposite.

I’ve done both multiple times and personally I prefer driving.

Chalet £1,000 pw split 7 ways for me this year = £142 each

    Rough costs for driving:
    Fuel – about £120 split 3 ways
    Chunnel crossing – £175 split 3 ways
    Tolls – about £120 split 3 ways
    lift pass – 110 Euros
    DH specific insurance about £45
Food/beer -75 to 125 Euros if self catering, more if eating out

Additional things to consider if flying:
    cost of flight
transfer from Geneva to Morzine (and return)
    bike bag (buy or borrow)
    weight limit

IMHO riding 40 mile and 70 mile rides is reasonable preparation but your body will just get used to riding regular 40 milers plus the ability to ride the occasional 70 miler. It wont be prepared to ride 70 miles frequently or regularly.

It would be better to either:

    – ride some longer rides e.g. 100 miles, or
    – make sure you are varying your 40 mile rides by undertaking some kind of interval training whilst you ride e.g. next 10 miles will be Zone 1, followed by xx miles in zones 2,3, 4 etc.

Yes, tories having a slogan which is exactly the opposite of reality is quite common.
    “For hardworking people”
“A Britain living within it’s means”
    “Strong and stable”
    Things Can Only Get Better

Wasn’t that a Labour slogan (Tony Blair)?

Are you taking any pictures en route? My iphone 4s recorded on Strava perfectly unless I took a picture at which point it usually but not always stopped recording.

Something I guess to do with the camera and Strava both wanting to access the location at the same time.

Cafe Giro in Esher is roadie based but seems to have got the vibe right.

Plenty of non-cyclists use it too.

haven’t read any of the thread but in no particular order:

    – somewhere safe to park my bike
    – a hose that i don’t have to queue for for half an hour to use
    – inside nice and warm
    – places to sit with a muddy pair of shorts but wiped clean regularly cos i don’t mind sitting in me own sh*te but i don’t wan to sit in other peoples
    – generous portions
    – cheap prices
    – well made, hot tea and coffee
    – home made cake and stuff
    – spare tubes, simple tools
    – friendly owner and staff, you can have all the above but if you’ve got some miserable b’stard serving it’s not gonna work
