I’ve got a Toshiba 36″ widescreen. Works perfectly, but it’s about to be replaced.

I paid ~ £750 for my quooker. It doesn’t take up worktop space and is probably twice the size of a thermos in the cupboard.

    I love it.

I’ve got a quooker. Had it for a year. Brilliant piece of kit. You never have to remember to fill it up and turn it on.

Probably the best thing we have in the kitchen

@wrightyson – Yes, a different router will make all the difference for dodgy lines. There’s some good info over here – http://www.kitz.co.uk/index.htm

Certain modems are better at dealing with line noise. I’ve also taken out all of the extensions in my house and only have a DECT phone and the modem plugged into the master socket

I’ve been with BT for BB for about 10 years now (all the time that ADSL has been available). Whilst not cheap, they do seem be OK as long as nothing goes wrong.

No problems when moving house, although I did have a speed problem that didn’t get solved until it got dealt with their “High level complaints” centre in South Wales somewhere.

Speed is good. They say I can only get up to 2Mb, but I get 4.2Mb. I dont live in a town though, so there’s less contention.

    They’re “OK”

Smudger – I suspect that is part of the problem. I’ve heard various rumours that they don’t spec 1 panel for that size of cylinder any more, but the guy we complained to denied that.

I’m also of the opinion that it’s not working as well as it could do, but the company who supplied it just refer back to the spec they supplied on the quote and to be honest it’s pretty difficult to work out if it’s fulfilling that or not.

I’ve already got a flat panel system which I’m unhappy with. I’ve got a 210 litre heatstore linked up to a 2X1 (I think) flat panel collector facing SSE.

Even on the sunniest day last year, it only managed to raise the temperature of the water in the heatstore by 10 degrees, which seems a bit pathetic to me.

Am I expecting too much, or is that similar to other peoples experiences

Tim, the self closers bit doesn’t apply any more. I’m in the middle of doing a loft conversion and just have fire doors with intumescent (sp?) strips

I have a similar problem. I just put some cardboard under the washing machine and slid it in on that.

HR departments are there to stop the company getting sued. Work from that premise inwards and you wont go far wrong.

We’ve just recently replaced our kitchen and the final decision was between Howden’s and Magnet.

Salesman from Magnet was very annoying. Howdens bloke was better, but not brilliant. Magnet seem to sell kitchens like double glazing. With Howdens, it’s one price and that’s it, no negotiating.

The carcasses seem to be the same, but with some of the Magnet kitchens you get a 22mm door instead of 18mm which you get with Howdens.

We went with Howdens and it seems good. Not sure I’d notice anything different with the extra cash that Magnet wanted.

    Mo,
What size/shape are you looking for ?

I've got some solwise ones. They are piggy back ones, so you don't lose a socket

They get used intermittently and sometimes "un-pair" themselves, which is annoying

If you use them plugged into an extension the bandwidth suffers

If it was any good, they would have stopped selling ordinary gloss.

It's crap. I have three-quarters of a tin of white if anyone wants it ?

epicsteve – what spec/size of shock did you put on there ? I'm considering something similar myself.

ps44 – Where in the Cotswolds are you ? Which direction do you panels face ?

I'm in the North of the Cotswolds and have solar hot water and am a little under whelmed by it. Certainly doesn't cover hot water for 9 months of the year.

If the deposit is held by the new fangled government trust thingy, then both parties have to agree on any deductions.

    http://www.depositprotection.com/

If you intend to charge the tenants, the you must let them put it right first.

I fell foul of this as I had the place cleaned and tried to charge him for it. We ended up splitting the cost in the end

Still got my 3130 that I got 21 years ago. It's had a small amount of work to it, but still gives out good sound

Was connected to a Technics tape deck, but it's got a squeezebox connected to it.

Trout, do you do any conversions for Cateye stadiums housings ?

My battery is starting to fail, but it strikes me that the housing is well made.

I have a separate battery pack to use.

    Geoff,
we’re having a setup from Nu-heat, they’re down in Devon, and a plumber who has done a load of work for me is a registered installer of theirs.

We’re in a detached house, and have a single 1.8 X 1.2 solar panel. It’s just been fitted today.

The boiler is a Worcester Bosch and is an external unit to free up space in the kitchen.

I also have a wood burner, but the plumber wasn’t keen on fitting it into the thermal heatstore as it’s effectively an uncontrolled heat source and there’s hassles with that. To be honest, I suspect the amount of wood I’d need to keep and season would be astronomical to make a back boiler worthwhile.

Heatstore is one of these http://www.nu-heat.co.uk/s.nl/ctype.KB/it.I/id.17092/KB.122/.f

We’re having our HW tank replaced with a thermal heatstore, so it will be mains pressure hot water. We’re using a solar panel and a oil fired condensing boiler to warm it up.

I’ve uprated the supply to 25mm from the stop cock to the house, but if that’s not enough, then I have to start digging up the road and will have to pay Thames Water £254 for a quote to do the work
