I always try and tell my OH that a clean house is the sign of a wasted life. Issue is the in-laws are VERY judgemental when it comes to stuff all over the place and tidying. So she feels as though she needs to tidy. Like others have said, we have very different lives to those of our parents.
I’d rather be out riding, fishing, walking etc.than stuck indoors cleaning and tidying all the time. Part of it is lowering standards but also a little and often approach. We cannot afford a cleaner at present so as a break from work I just whip the Hoover round or quick tidy. Breaks the day up.

I don’t think I have one. My grandad passed away on his favourite bench. He lived in Ramsgate and would walk down to the front over looking the harbour with his paper whenever the weather permitted. He drifted off peacefully there. I couldn’t say the exact bench as I was only young when it happened. Sorry to bring the mood of the thread down.

Just been discussing my 40th with my OH. I don’t want gifts. A week in Iceland fly fishing.

I am quite jealous of Binners’s 40th though!

Fair enough not all, but many areas have not fully digitised their records so gaps missing. But a pretty decent amount of records are there.

So probably a silly question, but I am looking at an iSpindel. Does it directly link up to your phone via WiFi? If so, what is the range? I have an outhouse about 10-15 metres from the house where my ferm fridge sits.

I need to get a Christmas brew on. I am thinking a Black Forest gateaux stout. So Kirsch cherries, some vanilla and nibs. Only in the planning stages.

+1 for Webber mastertouch. Really versatile. With the money you’ve saved on getting a kettle, get a meater probe perhaps, for monitoring those low and slow cooks.

DJ BBQ book is great and the tomato pie dish is a must try.
Grillstock book has lots of decent recipes in too and usually pick a copy up super cheap.

    Great article and amazing initiative.
It’s about ensuring people have role models, seeing people who are similar to you do things you possibly wouldn’t have done.
It’s raising awareness and saying ‘this sport is also for you’. It’s giving people a kickstart in to something they previously would have felt it wasn’t for them as one group dominated participation. How is that a bad thing?

Ah good shout on the back to mine. O don’t have many of those as I think I’d gone down the Another Late Night and Late Night Tales route. The Morcheeba back to mine I do have and is a favourite.

I’ll def check out the pet shop boys one!

Ah my brother and I used to love our cap guns. Those little paper bangers were great too, we’d have fights with them on our street with the aim of hitting bare skin on the back of the leg.

They paled in to insignificance compared to the excitement when a friend went on holiday to France and bought back French bangers! They were lethal.

What lunge said. Teachers are actually paid pretty well in relation to other jobs. I left after 10 years on UPS and as a HoD. I took a 1/3 off my salary to change career.
Check out the county council site for jobs and perhaps take a hit on your salary for a job that doesn’t pay great but gives you that extra time to retrain or study. It gave me breathing space and time to think about what I wanted to do. I ended up doing my PRINCE2 and now project manage at the council in adult education.
Good luck. It’s tough leaving teaching but there is a life after it. I thought I’d miss the holidays…I don’t as I don’t need them, I don’t always finish term burnt out and exhausted. If you want to chat about it all, you’re welcome to message me.

In my role I attend lots of community meetings with various charities, groups etc. All are worried about those on UC and low incomes. Food banks are struggling with demand already, mental health charities are seeing increased demand, many of these new referrals are farmers. We’ve seen a huge demand for our financial literacy courses.

It is going to be horrific for many people over the coming months possibly years. Increased repossessions, increased suicide, increase in mental health referrals. Strain on public services as a result. I work in East Devon with relatively low levels of economic deprivation, so would hate to think about other areas with higher levels of deprivation.

I am getting twitchy, I’m on the average wage, wife on maternity but her savings will run out quickly with increased costs. So will have to go back to work earlier than she wanted. Belts have been tightened already in preparation.

WCA. You need your own YouTube channel doing this!
Honest Brew have a good selection. I’ve found the German alcohol free beers the best. However Thornbridge zero five was really nice they also do another 0% beer but the name alludes me at the moment.
Agree with the Tiny Rebel one, that is very nice the Tropica.

Ah sorry, I did mean around 60. I am sleep deprived at the moment, so muddled my oil bill.

We had solar fitted last November. Worst time of the year to see the benefits of it. It came in to its own though March this year, when we were able to turn off our oil boiler. We had a solar boost fitted, so before paying in it’d heat our hot water first. There have only been a handful of days so far where we’ve had to top up the hot water with the boiler.
It’ll mean we only need to fill up with oil once a year, which considering how much it cost this time, its a considerable saving (around £500 a year). We are also looking to get out export payment soon, again around £500.
Since November we have generated around 2700kwh. We aren’t in a perfect south facing position and have trees that block with winter sun, but it isn’t bad. It has probably saved us around 1/3 off our bills so far.
The panels we have are JA Solar 380W Mono MBB Percium Half-Cell. 9 of them. Cost with inverter was 6k.
We used a local installer that had a good rep.

    +1 for Frontier.
I went for the rigid 29er when they had 10% off. So an absolute bargain of a bike. Like other have said, lots of points to secure cages etc. I carry a couple of the passenger cages on the front. I don’t really miss the suspension, I just change my style of riding to suit.

Only thing I’ve changed since buying has been the stock tyres. The Rangers they came with aren’t tubeless ready.

Their customer service is also great. I had an issue with a hub and they replaced really quickly and zero fuss.

I also use it as my local hack bike. The trails are very tame but it’s fun to ride too.

I think in terms of bang for your buck you cannot really beat the value of it.

I managed to get out and exercise for the first time since the birth of my first child. She is 6 weeks old today. Managed to just get a quick blast at Haldon, but paid for yearly membership. wife and little one can go for a quick walk, I can get a quick bit of exercise in. Then all meet for coffee and cake afterwards. Small win, but feels like a big one.

A decent sauce can compliment the flavour of the bacon, especially if using a decent smoked bit. That paring of sweet and salty is great.

Ah TJ. You definitely need a good sauce. I’ve recently discovered The Sauce Shop’s everyday chilli sauce with a bacon butty.

I’m same as you Jimmy. None of my plants flowered for the first time in years. No idea why. It hasn’t been the sunniest or warmest of summers.
Going to start again in December but unsure on variety. Plants that didn’t flower I’ll chop and overwinter.
Tried Hungarian Hot Wax two years in a row with little success.

Arsenal have spunked money up the wall, willy nilly. Edu is out of his depth.
The best bit of business we could have done was get rid of Xhaka. Failed.

Tickets will be cheaper in the championship next season right?!

Stunning scenery and those sea trout were beautiful. I am still to catch one.

I have a eufy system and find it excellent. I have the eufy cam2 and so far battery life has been good. You can also add in a solar charger for the battery ones but they now also do a solar powered camera too.
I can ping you over a referral for money off too (£40 off a £200 spend). Just to add..I’ll also get a voucher :)

I still love playing CDs. I have an old Cambridge Topaz which has served me well.

I think I like the process of choosing the CDs and thinking about my selection if it suits my mood etc.

I still like streaming though as can find some real gems which then I explore further and if I like, buy their CDs.

I don’t know many in the immediate area but a short drive is the Candlelight Inn at Churchinford. A bit pricier but great food. Their Sunday roast sharing boards are epic.

Or up on the Blackdowns is the Holman. Good food and home of Tricky cider. Can also have a walk before or after at Castle Neroche.

    Haha, I haven’t MCTD.

I think many just don’t like to admit their actions have impacted people negatively or admit mistakes. It’s all a culture of blame, no one takes responsibility for their actions.

We’ve just had first hand experience of the ambulance service and they were amazing. Our two week old was vomiting, went white, dodgy breathing and after a call to 111 first they put us through to the SW service and were here in 15 mins. We are very rural too.

The paramedics said they had a choice between a drug addict in Exmouth or us..they opted for us luckily. They said they are trying to cover more calls with less resources. Their area is Sidmouth to Honiton but some nights end up as far as Cornwall, two hours from their base.

Austerity is to blame. For many of the social issues that have grown out of it to then the lack of services that support said issues. People cannot vote Tory then moan about lack of services to support communities.

I remember seeing something on spring watch last year perhaps about creating a wildlife garden and using native plants more. So I plants a load of native plant plugs and the impact has been amazing. The number of bumble bees this year has visibly increased along with birds. Seen a couple of fly catchers too.

One of the best plants has been teasels. Bees love them and then we get flocks of goldfinches in the winter feeding on them.

It is awful watching it! Really do not know why we insist on it despite us doing it all season and not getting better at it.

At least Utd have players who are capable of making up a two goal deficit.

    mrwhyte

I think you’ll find Binners, despite our poor league finish we had a better defensive record than Utd ;) But yes, some times last season our defending was comical, it was silly mistakes when we conceded.

Brentford seem far far sharper, want it more. We just look lacklustre, lack leadership and pretty much any attribute you need to win a game.

It’s been a year since I last rode it on a bikepacking trip, but a couple of spots may well have but still fairly rough in places as far as I can remember. I can picture more the scenery than the trail.
