I’ve had stuff turn up really late after i’ve been refunded before.
Crc up to a few weeks, Wiggle 19 days for a helmet to turn up (refunded the morning before it arrived).
I reckon yours will show up at some stage.
MrTallFree MemberI used to run a Thudbuster on my old Trek HT and thought it was ace.
It’s not ‘proper’ suspension so is of no use on the properly rough stuff (where i’d be standing up anyway) but it really takes the edge out of normal trail conditions and helped make the ride more comfortable.
Although i still have it in the garage i don’t tend to use it now simply because my bikes take larger posts and shimming always seems to result in post slippage no matter what i try. It was fine shimmed in my old trek though.
I always mean to try it in my Fargo as it’s the correct size but can never be bothered to faff around swapping saddles. I may just buy another Spoon so it’s easy to swap in the future, i reckon it’d be far better on towpaths if i go for a decent canal based day out.
But yes, on the downside, fairly fugly and lots heavier than a normal post.
MrTallFree MemberSalsa Vaya?
I use my Fargo as a winter road bike but it’s probably a tad portly for most roadies.
MrTallFree MemberI’ve had a Weirwolf 2.55″ in the back of my Honzo, or an Ardent 2.4″.
Tight, but no problems.
There’s a very good value one in the classifieds if its the right size.
MrTallFree MemberI’m the same size as TooTall and have 180 on one bike, 175 on all the others. Can’t say I’ve ever noticed a difference between them. In theory I should notice a few more pedal strikes on the 180’s but as the bb is higher on that bike, I haven’t. I’ll be sticking to 175 in the future.
MrTallFree Member3 weeks ago.
Motorist overtook me as i was entering a small roundabout and i had to swerve over to the left to avoid plowing into the side of him. I let fly with a few choice expletives and was about to carry on my journey when he screetched to a halt, got out his car and came over to me (still stood astride my road bike) and without warning shoved me with both hands and pushed me over into the road.
I was surprised as he must have been in his 50’s and at 6’7″ i’m a fairly imposing figure. Regardless, had a total red mist moment and just launched at him. I was happily smacking away until his wife got out and tried to drag me off him but he went for me again despite his wife now being between us. He actually hit his own wife as he was flailing around but afterwards when the police turned up he claimed that i’d assaulted him (and his wife!!) and wanted me charged. He didn’t seem to realise the assault started when he shoved me over, not when i got back up and went for him. The police talked him around and that was the end of the matter.
Apart from the fact that my hand has now been in plaster for 3 weeks (1 to go) as i smashed my knuckle to bits on his face. This is why i very rarely hit people as my hands appear to be made of cheese.
On hindsight i wish i’d just carried on my way but after being pushed over my hand was kind of forced….
MrTallFree MemberThe new Sora mech will work up to 32t i believe.
£19.99 on CRC or around £14 on Rose.
Short cage would be better and i think you can run it 8 speed?
MrTallFree MemberI really think that decent bike manufacturers should start including a spare mech hanger with the sale of a full bike or new frame. The actual cost of them must be pretty minimal and it would be a nice touch.
Won’t happen of course but still……
MrTallFree MemberMy sole remaining 26″ (size 21″) bike feels weird now after riding my other 29ers. The fit simply is not as good (i’m 6’7″) although there are still plenty of tall riders (defined by me as 6’4″+) on 26″ wheels.
Have you tried a 29er? If you’re happy with the smaller wheel size and it’s the bike you want then go for it, like most things for people of our size, you’ll learn to make it fit as we don’t usually get much choice. It just may not look all that pretty and get mistaken for a gate out in the countryside…..
MrTallFree MemberI had a bloke overtake me as i entered a roundabout last sunday who stopped after i gave him a mouthful, got out his car, walked over to me and pushed me off my bike.
This did not go down well with me and is now the reason my right hand is in plaster for a month as my knuckle is in 3 pieces. Must learn to punch better……
MrTallFree MemberCool, thanks.
So i’ll be ok if i use my existing 9sp deore shifter, deore HG53 chain, sora rear mech and a closer ratio HG50 12-25 (road) cassette then?
MrTallFree MemberI have a BNIB Sunline V1 XC1 stem (90mm) that is sat in the garage doing nowt if it’s of any interest?
Bought for a project then never used. 35mm stack height as mentioned.
Like this one:

MrTallFree MemberHonzo is really heavy as well, my XL is 7lbs. Bit poor given the cost but it rides really nice with a 120mm reba up front and weight has never been an issue for me.
MrTallFree MemberI’d never take her back as relationships are based on trust and you’ll struggle to ever trust her again.
Call me a pessimist but i’d suggest she’s told the gym bloke that she’s left and he’s either told her he just wanted a fling or more likely that he’s probably married/in a relationship already. Now she’s back with her tail between her legs to her safety net.
It’s up to you though isn’t it, only you can make the decision to try and save the relationship? Just don’t spend the next 10 years with her being miserable just to take the best option for your child, life’s too short.
MrTallFree MemberMic can (and will very shortly) remove them from the challenge.
Amazing how many sad trophy hunters join every challenge they can.
MrTallFree MemberThanks Graham, as long as there’s a fix due in the not-too-distant future i can put up with it for now.
MrTallFree MemberBack in the day we had a fat mate who attempted to crowd dive off the stage. The crowd saw him coming and didn’t like what they saw…
It was like Moses parting the Red Sea – the crowd opened up into a lovely space for him and he slammed into the ground much to everyones amusement.
No serious injuries though so we were all allowed to laugh our asses off.
MrTallFree MemberThe GP4000s are only £20 on Rose bikes at the moment, i bought 2 earlier. Remember to factor in a fiver for postage though.
MrTallFree MemberI have the slightly detuned 3.0l V6 Titanium X, looked at the St220 but decided against it.
Road Tax is £430pa and you’ll get around 28mpg if you’re careful. If you can live with those things then they all drive very nicely although they are slightly underbraked for the weight/power.
MrTallFree MemberOoops, sorry , hadn’t checked back to the thread.
Looked at the link above and can’t find the ones i’ve got. Best advice is to nip in next time you’re passing one of their stores and have a look.
Mine have an extra flap at the bottom with a press stud that can be opened to cover the front of your shoes as well.
I could always send a pic if you wanted and also measure then to see how long they are.
MrTallFree MemberFailing that i’ve got lots of spare ones in the garage that i’d happily pop in the post for you?
The new piston spacing one is different to the older ones though so i think i’ve only got one (which i’m keeping!).
Pretty sure i’ve got several sets of the hose cutting spacers though.
MrTallFree MemberI have a Roadlite and although i love it and think it’s fantastic value, you won’t be getting mudguards on it with 25mm tyres.
With a 23mm tyre on the clearance with Crud raceguards is incredibly tight, couldn’t see how it would fit with bigger tyres.
MrTallFree MemberMy legs are stupidly long (39″/40″) and i’ve got a pair of Decathlon trousers which are the longest i’ve ever found. If they’re long enough for me they’ll be fine for pretty much anybody on the planet!!
MrTallFree MemberTriton cycles have the Salsa frames on deal at the moment for around £325 i think.
I had an inbred and it was nice but a pretty heavy beast.
MrTallFree MemberThere are often a few trials riders around those steps and they do look like fun.
MrTallFree MemberI run a Renthal on my 1×10 and they are silly light and look fairly bling. Not the cheapest though…..
MrTallFree MemberActually it would appear so. I never clicked on the original link, just went to their website and it didn’t show that version, only the 26″ size.
I’ll wait and see what he says as if the 65mm ones are bigger than mine i might get some myself.
MrTallFree MemberTriton cycles have some Fargo (£325) and Surly frames (KM £259) Ogre (£387) on offer at the moment but only in limited sizes.
I love my Mark 1 Fargo and run it with 105 shifters on BB7 road brakes and Salsa Bell Lap bars.
MrTallFree MemberPaul,
You do realise that the 65mm version are for 26″ wheels??
As far as i could tell the 53mm ones were the biggest i could find for a 29er/700c wheel. 65mm in 700c size would be perfect but i guess there’s not much call for them.
MrTallFree MemberGood news, nice to get a happy ending for once.
I have to ask though, did you get any insurance payout on it as well before its return?
Genuine inquiry as i’m interested to know if the insurance companies pay out on bikes nicked from cars roof racks?
MrTallFree MemberAs Stu says above, Reba’s only come in 100mm flavour now. You’ll need the Revs for anything more.
Classifieds and some patience is now your friend. Plus, thinking about it, most of the 120mm Rebas (if not all) were 20mm in thru axle versions.
On One had some cheap ones earlier in the year and i missed out on them by days and ended up tracking some down from 29squadron for my Honzo.
Wish i’d stumped up a bit more for Revs though (especially as there was (is) such a problem with offset legs on the 20mm maxle Reba versions (so you can’t run 2.4″ tyres in them). My older std steerer 120mm versions are also 20mm.
Manitou might offer something but again, i’m not sure in a 15mm option?
Are your hubs interchangeable for 20mm as well as 15mm? Most newer hubs are (Hope certainly are and they’re very popular on here).
MrTallFree MemberJust checked my CRC order history and it was the Bluemels.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=84326
It was the 700c 53mm ones which were called ‘Trekking’ when i bought them but the measurements seem the same.
MrTallFree MemberI run a full mudguard (rear only) on my Salsa Fargo with Big Apple 2.35″ and those are about as big as they come. It’s tight to be fair (but then that was expected as my tyres are a fair bit wider than the maximum recommended for the guards i have) but it works great and makes a massive difference in the wet.
I have the SKS ones and would certainly recommend them.
MrTallFree MemberTom, i had an Inbred and sold it earlier this year so not really what i’m after but thanks for the offer.
LSM – could be interested in the Kaitai if the size is right. I’d need a 21″ at least (maybe bigger if this is a hybrid frame as they size up differently) so feel free to send over some pics if it’s big enough.
Would a 2.35″ slick tyre fit in the frame or is it designed for narrower 700c tyres? Cheers
I’m assuming it comes with disc mounts?
MrTallFree Memberhttp://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/m4b0s125p1674/SALSA_CroMoto
Showing in stock and on sale.
MrTallFree MemberObviously doesn’t need to be a 29er, i just want it to be one :-). Plus the bike has always been horrid, not just after i put a 29er wheel on the front.
I’m bored so was looking for a little project to work on and i’d get to swap bits around and have some fettle time. Plus all my spare bits are now 29er (wheels in particular).
I looked at the On-Ones but £150 is way too much for a bike frame which will be left in town and outside the gym (albeit in reasonable ‘safe’ areas). Plus it’s a name that would still appeal to scrotes. There are loads of basic Alu frame available in 26″ variety but nowt in 29er as yet.
MrTallFree MemberMy old school friend supposedly had a haunted house. Both him and his father had seen the ‘ghost’ and the dog would often refuse to go into the kitchen (where all the ‘sightings’ happened).
He told me about his sighting and it was quite spooky. Early morning in the kitchen he came across a bloke (in 19th century getup – believed to be an old butler) standing there (not ghostly – proper ‘solid’ human) who apparently promptly vaporised infront of him and vanished. He wasn’t the sort to make things up but its still something i’d have to see myself to believe. Big old house in Edgebaston in Brum.
Story always makes me shiver though for some reason despite me not really believing in ghosts and the like……
