Its hard to look past the Planet X offerings for value, or poke around last years models and get something a bit more pimp, there has been some nice offers on Bianchi Vertigo’s in the recent past that have nearly drawn me in for example – lesser spec but beautiful bikes.

The roads on/off the chain ferry are grim this time of year, the New Forest was similarly unpleasant by about 11am today as the holiday crowd did their best to kill people or animals in their quest to get to the campsite 5 minutes early.

    Hope the rider was okay.

Or alternatively, he was doping on Endura, and when he moved to Sky (with presumably a more rigorous expensive sports medicine regime) he had to stop? used the new stuff which doesn’t get detected?

That doesn’t make a great deal of sense given he rode really well with Endura, then really badly once he joined Sky, if Sky have a big pillbox marked ‘marginal gains’ I would expect he would be as least as good as when he was with Endura, as it was he was a total bust for Sky even before the charges.

My issue is that Armstrong is ruined, there is no benefit to getting angry at him, its done, the federal case will bury him financially and he has no reputation beyond that of a cheat. Meanwhile Merckx has his picture on every bike cafe wall and Pantani is portrayed as some tragic rock star. You can’t selectively ruin cheats just because one was mean, I reckon St Eddy would get pretty nasty if journalists started asking him how often he used and if he ever raced clean, of course he is too well connected and ‘special’ to attack even though he was the one who introduced Armstrong to Ferrari.

Yawn, more hate for the already ruined Armstrong, meanwhile lets keep repeating the legends of Pantani, Merckx, Coppi, Simpson etc etc as if they are better.

Keep seeing the ‘Stay Back’ ones on taxis and light courier vans in London – two groups of road users who often can’t bothered to check their mirrors or indicate before they pull over.

On a tipper truck or a long vehicle its perfectly sensible to have a warning about blind spots etc, but saying ‘stay back’ on a normal vehicle is essentially just demanding that other users accord you special rights simply because you’re too lazy to hold up your end of the social contract and mirror/signal before you maneuver.

I like the road.cc ones better

Used to drink too much, certainly while at Uni, and for a while when I worked in London and spent a lot of lonely hours on the Eurostar which would inevitably lead to drinks. Never out of control but I ended up totally out of shape which to me is ‘too much’

I drink mostly ‘craft’ beer now, so the volume is way down but the amount spent is static. Would much rather drink a few 1/3rds over an evening than cheaper pints now.

I can’t see why the BBC had him on, he’s a viscous little thug and in any other profession he wouldn’t be employable never mind have his opinion sought out.

I guess QT is following the way of the newspapers and going for ‘clickbait’ controversy over analysis that adds value

The Rogue beard brew isn’t bad at all, the yeast found in a professional brewers beard is highly likely to be the yeast strain he works with every day if you think about it. (and yes it was April 1st, but they did actually brew it, and its available in bottles)

Don’t think the ‘fad’ of high alpha beers is going to go away, massive IBU beers have been popular for too long. Then again I happily drink Stone’s ‘Ruination’ and Green Flash’s ‘Palate Wrecker’ so its possible i’m biased.

Anyway Sours are this years fad, last years was barrel aged impy stouts ;)

Riding along the south downs, beautiful day, on a flat section of bridleway admiring the view, turn to my mate and say “this is the life” about a second before I put the wheel straight into a rut and go directly over the bars.

Worst part was the bike followed me over as it was fully stuck in the hole and the rear wheel bashed my head into the ground for a second time.

Split lip, bloody chin, dented pride :)

With molgrips on this – I’ve wanted discs for a number of years since knackering a rim when some swarf/metal from the road got stuck in my brake block and scored the rim track badly. Thankfully it was a cheap wheelset.

Friend dealt with a couple who complained to the planning department about a ferry terminal next to their block of flats – apparently they ‘had not been aware’ when purchasing the property that it adjoined the terminal and wanted action taken to reduce vessel noise and disturbance.

Terminal had been running for 160 years

OBVIOUSLY those of you who’ve done a few club rides and competed in a few crits and races have a better perspective on the potential safety issues than Marcel Kittel. And you’re all definitely way harder than him. For sure

Hopefully Giant-Shimano will get in touch with some of the double ‘ard lads on this forum – they can help them out with the tactics, maybe help give Kittel a pull round, advise him on how to sort out his sprinting etc, its a wonder Brailsford isn’t registered so Sky can benefit from the collective wisdom of the forum – marginal gains and all that!

Pulled Pork done well is awesome, i’m really glad the BBQ trend has started to pick up in the UK, always loved having it in the states and its great being able to get it out here, hopefully we’ll see more carnitas and barbacoa as well

They are useful and not that hard to get delivered (as they are a standard load) but do watch the security side, they are very easy to get into if you know what you are doing.

I have subs to Cyclist and ST – currently enjoying Cyclist much more – the photos are better and the articles seem a bit fresher and different. As its only about a year old, I’m waiting for the day when the next issue just seems like they’re churning it out to meet the month’s production deadline. The photos in ST seem to have become very ‘green/brown’ background with rider somewhere amongst it.

+1 – I’ve come home waving the Cyclist and telling the other half we need to visit place x or she needs to read article y, with ST i’m increasingly thumbing through it then dumping it in the recycling. The multi page advertorial for crappy real ale was the only article that was memorable recently and that was for all the wrong reasons.

Ride more long distance routes – road and mountain bike, got two 100+ mile rides planned before March then planning doing the Coast to Coast and Hadrians Wall long distance routes back to back. May be getting a CX bike to suit the mixed road/offroad type riding i’m planning

Its as expensive or as cheap as you want (within reason) but I am struggling with the prices of replacement kit I used to buy and have downgraded my recent groupset choices as destroying deore hurts a lot less than XT. MTB involves the occasional random kit destruction which can be very painful to the wallet.

There are some bargains out there but I do get a feeling that the 26/650/29 nonsense has resulted in full-bike bargains being a little harder to find if you want the on-trend wheelsize, same with forks as noted above

I’ve got a BKOOL unit – have had it about a year and i’m pretty impressed, its quiet and the stats/data services are good given the low relative price to a Tacx or equivalent VR system. Software was sketchy out of the box but its been updated a lot and is all a bit slicker now.

Using an old bike and biggest issue has been sweat on the bike which is easily taken care of.

Our current approach of road-sharing, bikeability and education has given us a modal share for cycling of 2%.

Holland’s approach of high quality, comprehensive, continuous infrastructure has given cycling a modal share of 26%.

    This

I don’t think we’re going to get mass participation cycling unless we make non-cyclists feel safe enough to get out of the car. I’d rather live in a place where I ride slower to and from work with hundreds of other bikes than ride quickly to work with hundreds of cars.

I try, mightily, not to react. I have enough stress in my wider life to worsen it while riding. I try to be super nice to motorists who give me space and indicate rather than react to those who don’t.

I do struggle however, being beeped then sworn at by a woman in a 4×4 near winchester for taking primary position at a junction last month was the closest I’ve come to losing it recently – the scant seconds she could save being far more important than both of us crossing the junction legally and safely, she booted it past me the minute we cleared the traffic islands.

New website is absolutely terrible, and I’ve had similar issues to the OP with the product description not matching the product delivered (tyres – described as folding, wired versions turned up) but they are good with returns.

I haven’t used them for over a year now primarily due to the website changes.

Grim, utterly grim, that it happened is revolting. That a defence brief was allowed to blame (a) the victim and (b) her bereaved partner in open court is utterly horrific.

Edit – I’ve just had a look at the Dr’s brief, what a profoundly unpleasant man.

There do seem to be an small group of members who don’t appear to ride bikes, or at least don’t have any views on them to share, which is a little odd on a mtb forum.

These aren’t ‘rank and file’ police though are they? They are either DPG or senior officers – both highly trusted groups who seem to feel lying is perfectly okay if it gets them what they want (a tory scalp during a labour dispute). Pathetic.

My understanding is that they are getting the death penalty due to this being a murder case rather than because the law has been altered to extend the death penalty in rape cases – they are being sentenced under the murder laws that prevailed at the time rather than the new regime for sex offences. Murder has always been a capital crime in India although the death penalty is rarely sought.

Edit – murder has been a capital offence in India since the colonial period, the only major change being its reserved for cases considered truly extreme – hence the judge stating this is “the rarest of the rare”
