Our 15 yr old + bread maker which we’d passed on to no. 2 daughter snuffed it. I said I’d have a look. When turned on it lit up and made a noise but no drive. Guessed it was the belt. Checked up and you need a special tool to get the bottom off to get it it. Sod that. Half an hour with a small drill bit followed by a bit of attention with a hammer and a screwdriver and the belt and pulleys were revealed.

£13 odd for a new belt off eBay plus a strip down and lube of the bearings. Jobs a good ‘un.

Gaffer tape to put the bottom back on again.

I have always found W ie double U rather misleading.  should it not be double V?

    Explained here:

You might find that in some of the more old-school places like Drybrook or Ruardean, but not in the three main towns of Lydney, Coleford and Cinderford.

Conversely a close friend of mine moved to Ruardean about 2 years ago and she says that people there were friendly and welcoming.

Sadly there isn’t. However there might be in the future!

    Update:

I rang the Technical Dept of the maufacturer. Explained it all to him. He agreed with me that it was an issue with the remote transmitting to the receivers. He couldn’t imagine what it would be but something was blocking the frequency and not just briefly either.

Meanwhile I got a message from my wife. She’d tried the remote for the window shutter this morning and it worked! She’d then had to go out so I asked her to try the garage door one when she came back. She did and that worked too. So that’s good news in one respect but it doesn’t tell me what happened. Next doors garage is joined to ours so I’m going to have a word with them just in case they have changed something recently that could have affected things. I’m also going to have to get a new window pane…

    Thanks all.

I will put a new battery in one of them to try but the roller shutters were already fitted when we moved in two years ago. I have since bought an extra remote for the garage door. The window one hardly ever gets used. The spare for the door never gets used. All 3 of them work inside the garage.

I have opened the control box today to see if anything was obvious in there. I have a wiring diagram of said box. There are no batteries in it.

I am going to contact the manufacturer tomorrow. Either that or the local company that fitted the shutter and door.

Receivers (plural) as there is one for the door and one for the bedroom window. They are mains fed. Plus they do work, just when you are close to them.

No external way of opening it. The ones at work can be hand cranked to open so I know what you mean.

My gut feeling is that it’s to do with the range of the remotes but I have no idea why they would both suddenly stop working for no reason after years of use with no problems.

Some fun to be had in Chapel House Woods (Staveley In Cartmel).

Also Bridleway over Hampsfell and into Eggerslack Woods (Grange over Sands).

Over to Bletherbarrow Lane, and High Ickenthwaite is ok too.

it’s a bit like clay pigeon shooting. You don’t aim directly at the target.

Ah, that’s why I was so rubbish at it…

Yep, this. Same on several other Shimano shifters. Design fault I would say.

Interesting. I must be lucky as I’ve got Spoons on 4 bikes and don’t suffer this problem.

Saw a guy on a mono wheeled skateboard flying uphill on the pavement in Blackburn a while ago. I couldn’t keep up opposite him on the road. Impressive but also a bit worrying from the perspective of pedestrian interface. :0

    Also curious.

What are the running costs like? Are they noisy?

I’m also a Darrener (not from birth though). We moved here from Bolton when we got married and I have to say that people are starting to accept us and talk to us a bit now. We celebrated our 35th anniversary in November… 😉

I might ask my Blackburn mates if this ‘rrr’ thing affects words like ‘Rovers’, ‘manager’, ‘rubbish’, ‘relegation’ and ‘fodder’…

That’s a black eye recipe for certain! How did it all pan out? Did you fight Binners after pushing in at the chippy queue?

Binners was several miles away. I was in Bolton, he was in Rammy I suspect. It was actually ok. Proper beer in Sweet Green. Decent curry in Akhari across the road. Sympathised with the owner about the big table of dickheads who were behind us. They will not be going there again, apparently. Then staggered back across the road to the Sweet for more refreshments, pool, Slipknot on jukebox and tickling the pub Rottweiler (not a euphemism). The bread knife came and picked me up (from the pub not the floor) and was in bed about usual time. I’ve had worse nights out. But many better! 😉

Works do in town centre Bolton. Pub at 3, curry at 5 then drinks in town. What could possibly go wrong?

    MrSparkle

I did. Horse riders ok to use it, no vehicles including bicycles. So it’s a bridleway but not one bikes can use. Ok then. 🙄
