    Just had a nice tea.
Might do a bit o’ fettlin’ on the SS later.
Got a choice of riding on Sunday.
Best of all got a phone call this morn from local temp agency offering me two tickets to the match on Sat in corporate hospitality. 3 Course meal and FREE BAR! Get the **** in!!!

I saw an interview with Muttley (?) and he sounded surprisingly well-spoken – seems like the broad lancashire accent was put on.

Not too hot on Northern English geography are yer?

You quite fancy one of them? Is it The Chuckle Brothers? if so, which one do you fancy – barry or paul?

Well, i was at the Inov8 iroc but I will try to get to the next one. Maybe that climb from the car park to the course puts all the SSers off!

    You swine!
It was a good event for me. got a free place thanks to winning the comp in The Fellrunner and then managed to win the 2 SS prizes for the MTB events. Result!
Trial rat – nice to meet you and your teammate. You are seriously quick on a bike.

Ok, we’ve got garlic which seems to be going ok. Few lettuces under paccy bottle cloches. Spuds growing in sacks. My mushrooms seem to have given up the ghost. Not much happening on the chili front but my two rhubarbs plants are coming along nicely. I think the toms are just about to start and we’ve got a load of seeds for carrots and all sorts o’ stuff to go in SOON!

Oh, and the distances are now: 14km fell, 10.4km O, 1hr O, 1 hr mtb TT and 9km fell/trail with a 4hr Enduro on Sunday. The distances have changed as well as the start times…

It’s poor isn’t it. I am getting the words ‘half’ and ‘arsed’. We will just have to see how the event pans out. I briefly had visions of doing the whole shebang but I think I might now just do the first fell race, the first orienteering and the bike events. I finally worked out that there was potential for about 20 odd miles of running and thought ‘Sod that!’

Equipment has been pretty much covered as above. You can always get more stuff as (if?) you get more into it.
From my distant memories of it Sport Class can be pretty damn quick. Look on the first attempt as an experiment. Don’t get drawn into flying off with the leaders at the start, steady away and if you get to half way and you feel ok then try and pass a few. If you die on your ass you will need to train more and if you find it easy then next time you can cane it from the start. Good luck and remember – it’s still about enjoying it!

    You’ll be lucky!
It’s ok doing it on SS, you will have a few pushes – notably at Summit – but that apart nowt particularly worrying. I did it in just over 5 hours on my SS but I was trying a bit! Good luck with the weather and keep an eye on the signs as other bridleway signs off the route can be confusing.

We’ve got one too. Have actually ridden it (kinda) in the dark but it’s better for fell running –

    Aggies Staircase Fell Race

The race is held under FRA rules, race category BS.

    From: Punstock Road, Darwen. GR689221

3.8 miles with 1150 feet of climb including three climbs of Darwen Moor. Starting at the top of Punstock Road, the route climbs a path then a track past Sniddle Hill Farm before crossing steep fields to join the main track up to Darwen Tower.
It then descends through the small quarry towards the top of Bold Venture Park, climbs steeply up a rough path known as Jacobs Ladder, heads across the moor and then down to the foot of Aggie’s Staircase.

Has anyone who isn’t an elite racer done it and lived? plenty.

Do you need a racer license to enter? No

What was it like? Hard but fun

Did you train much? A fair bit.

Any recommendations? Er? Have a look at the official website and Dave Haygarths excellent 3 Peaks site.

Will my disc brakes on the cx bike cause derision and scorn? No, there’ll be others

Should I leave stuff like this to the hard men? MTFU.
