As for trailer bikes – I've seen one used very effectively at Laggan Wolftrax

probably not by anyone as crap on the bike as me though 😀 I'll leave that to GF.

What kind of trails can you do with a trailer, do you have to stick to fire roads?

I odn't know, you borrow a book, forget to return it for 7 months, and all they do is moan 🙄 Sorry Kat, but at least I remebered it today and I didn't even see this thread!

GF is reading the Postal Bus one at the moment, he's enjoying that. Breaking the Chain (i think that's what it's called) by Willy Voets is an interesting read.

I just want to keep the pedals turning for as long as I can, and then get back on as quick as I can after. I'm taking it easy and I reckon I've got another few weeks in me at least yet.

So sorry to hear that. LIke many others on here, I lost my mum when I was young (I was 7). It's not something you get over, it's something you learn to live with.

Just keep talkng about her, keep remembering her and make her proud.

Yup another happy spd user on my road bike. No issues at all (think about 80 miles is the longest ride I've done).

I read the title and didn't dare hope!

Has anyone suggested the rohipoccino yet?

No, I think competitive is right. I see it like “right last time you got up to x rock, get 5 feet past it” or “last time you were in big sprocket, move down one”. It’s a competition against myself definitely.

re the competetive side of things, there are different ways to look at it. I am not particularly competetive in terms of "ooh I'm faster/ better than you", but I am VERY competetive against myself – I like the challenge of riding something I haven't done before. It's one of the reasons I like the solos – I don't see them as a race, I see them as a personal challenge to do the most I can do within that 24hrs.

Yes, they are. Just like men who like riding are different to men who don't like riding.

If she generally hates the outdoors and does no exercise, then it's highly unlikely that you'll get her into riding.

What you generally find is that (cue sweeping generalisatons) women tend not to have hobbies like blokes do. Other than my mtbing female friends, and a couple of friends who horseride, most of the women I know don't really have hobbies, and a lot do no sport at all and haven't done since school.

Tbh we didn’t really want anything as big as mondeo / volvo etc, were thinking more focus / golf size, it’s really just a run around – to get me the 6 miles to work, and once on mat leave, to get to the park! We have a nice estate for proper journeys. But if they’re the best for the money, then I guess we’ll have a look at them 🙂

We're expecting our first in August, we've just accepted that there won't be much riding together for a long long time, and that my dad (unbelieveably excited to be a grandparent having just about given up on the idea) will be coming to stay a lot!!

me too. Am going back to work when ours is 9 months. My choice, only mine and GF's business, no one elses.

It's just a great go-anywhere bike, perfect for all day riding, likes to climb but good downhill too (specially since I upgraded my forks recently). I've ridden it everwhere from lakes and dales, to urban Leeds night rides to the Alps and Italy.

I've replaced the bearings once – and for 3 of those 5 years it was my only bike.

The only 2 criticsms I have are that the mud clearance at the back end is poor, but if hers is a new one, then it's a lot better because they've got rid of the brace on the seat stays, and that it's a little flexible at the back, but you get used to that.

I love mine, it's a great bike. Had it 5 years now and can't see me changing it any time soon.

dgoab, due in Augst, so I think you can expect full on summer heat and sunshine any time from May onwards. I've just turned down a riding weekend in Aviemore with some girls on 15/16 may as I thought it might be too much at 26wks so that's probably about when the really good weather will start!
