My girlfriend chose for me as she liked BOS more than Fox and I could not make my mind up 🙂

Hope you have a spare fork either way!

Pretty negative Dasnut. I reckon the majority could feel the difference. I also have Fox Vans which are slightly more active than the Lyriks but no where near the BOS. The BOS also have the bonus of being lovely and plush and not diving through their travel like Lyriks do which can be off putting on steep stuff and hitting the face of jumps.

Like driving a new Nissan GTR compared to a Mondeo, I reckon better tech helps the novice as much as the pro. Especially as the novice relies more on mechanical grip as they dont have the pro techniques.

BOS are cheaper than FOX so not a thing about spending the most. I spent a while deciding and in the end I got them because I have the Lyriks as backup given the mixed reliability reports. My experience with R53Sport has been very good with support on email and phone about setup questions etc.

    160 Devilles

Got them in Feb/March and ran them until this month. They are leagues ahead of my TFTuned coil Lyriks. Let my friends try them and all were amazed how good they felt, traction etc all really good. There was a top out clunk that was annoying me a little so I called R53 and then sent them in.

Turns out the fork was not operating correctly. R53 were very proactive in phoning me up, letting me know the issue and turning them around in a week so that I had them back in time for a key journey to Fort William.

Now I have them back I am surprised at how much better they are given I thought they were good before hand. I used my Lyriks for the weekend they were away which are freshly serviced as my spares and they are down right sluggish even with compression damping fully open, soft spring and bushes opened up by TFT. The Lyriks do feel stiffer in the car park but the BOS go about their business on the trail in a sublime way that the car park test does not factor.

Very happy with their performance. Can’t comment on long term reliability.

I have had 1:1 coaching with Dirtschool. I found it a proper eye opener. I had been riding the same sheep lines and stiff body language for years not knowing why I was stalling, falling and not knowing how to go faster where I wanted to.

Post coaching I have been able to think through the processes of my riding and why things work and why things don’t. It was a very positive experience for me. I still get lazy and make mistakes etc but I can now see what quite a few of them are and try to avoid making them in future.

I used to watch videos and think I was doing the same sorts of things as people I was watching. I would say I was an OK rider when actually I was very poor. Coaching opened my eyes to how much body language you can use to increase flow and stability on the trail. It also opened my eyes to many different lines I would not usually consider and what the benefits may be for taking them. Made riding even more fun.

The coaching was a couple of years ago but I am still working on some of the things shown to me. It planted a seed.

I think some people can find their way to their own solutions easier than others. If you have strongly set bad habits a coach should be able to show you them and teach the benefits of trying other/better approaches.

Coaching is proven in so many areas that it seems odd to dismiss it as not being able to offer benefits.

I’ve run a Larsen in snow and lived. They are lethal/fun on off camber mud, fine on everything else if you have one to use.

Quite humbling when Rachel Atherton boosts the second last jump in practice and clears it bigger and cleaner than anyone else I saw, male or female.

    Ace day.

Did the Ben and Conic Hill yesterday. I would say 2 hours, maybe a bit over or less depending on size/fitness of group. Excellent day out.

Ace ride, weather definitely added to it. Not as challenging as 2 years ago which was still the best route imo.

Headed to GT after and did a ton of runs on Zoom or Bust and Berm Baby Berm to warm down

    Thanks to all involved.

Just don’t ride round the trail features as many have been on the Ben! 🙁

Is Conic Hill any good tech wise?

I’m taking this thread as a discussion/spoiler zone.

Rexated – Your lady could be right on the hair dye thing

Wayland’s feet and the abilities of Shaw who is originally on a dig team but seems to be doctor/expert of everything still upsets me.

So we think that they never came back to earth because god dropped by and and booked his son in for a bit of babysitting 2k years ago. That will be why Shaw puts her cross back on. Good, glad we reached the root of it early 😆

Watched it tonight. Weyland’s young feet upset me. As did a continuity error with David’s hair dye scenes I think I spotted.

Film was pretty poor IMO from an Alien fan. Script/plot poorly held together. As said by others – trying to put too much in so the core relationships and decisions are ridiculous which spoiled it for me.

Enjoyed the noise and pictures in the Imax.

Checked them out again tonight. Pinching the knobs 😳 – the old supertacky feels slightly softer (or ~comparable) in structure to the new 60A. The only cracking on the sidewall is at the maxxis logo which is bonded on so I think it is a goer

    Thanks for the opinions.

The tyre has been stored under the house away from daylight which is a plus.

It does have a tiny bit of surface cracking on the side wall. I’ll mount both up on the bike front and back and give it a good run out and see what it feels like. That should get rid of the gummy covering on the new tyre for a comparison.

I don’t like the idea that the tyre may break down rapidly for a week in the Alps 😯

Was up today, nice day for it . Looking odd with big areas of trees removed from the plantation but most trails are not affected .
You can enter flux as normal from the old shed and cut across onto it. It is quite cool with the open bit off the ridge where trees have been felled. Bit odd with lots of light in there.
The trails down onto Rosies are still all good which is where I often fanny about. 🙂

I never have much issue between SPDs or flats so you might be lucky. Practice a few bunny hops and rear wheel lifts in the street and you will soon know if there are going to be suprises on the trail.

Stevo – we will need to conduct some serious practical tests when we are out! That means massive tech descents – not all bad

The thick ally bell hopefully means the disc wont warp over the whole area but at a surface level it might get interesting. So far I have had zero issues, but then I had zero issues with my R1 rotors on UK DH courses. I imagine the Alps is a whole different kettle of fish. 😯

Thank you for the advice on this thread. Tried the Fox Launch on today and it is a step more comfortable than the Kyle Strait on me and has a nice amount of extra padding just above the knee. Nice knowing they will go through the machine wash happy enough.

Depends how hard you hit your knee. My KSs has got a little softer on the knee protection after 2 years of washing. The Scott would not do this. I will try on Fox locally first and take it from there. May order the Scotts to try the fit.

    Thanks for the advise everyone.

Van RC will give you more scope to self tune. It was not availabile when I bought my Van R. 🙂

I have a Pushed Van R on my Enduro.

In it’s std form it was amazingly supple, good mid support and very consistent rebound.

I found it a sapped a little too much power out of pedalling and pumping the trail so had it Pushed it at service time and custom tuned to give more support for these actions. This made the bike amazingly sharp for pedalling and pumping the trail but I felt it sat up just a tiny bit too much when the rear was light such as steep tech trails. I then used the free retune that you get with the TFT Push option to have it set slightly more supple on light stuff but retain as many of the tuned benefits as possible.

Tried it out at the weekend and it is very good. Tuning seems to be all about compromise and trying to decide exactly what outcomes you want so that the tuner can try to match them. TFT did a very good job for me. They can tune the Std unit so phone them up and discuss what you want first.
