It is only a rough guess. I was looking for someone to trust to send my lovely BOS forks to for a service and looking at Pabloxxl’s threads which are only for trades of bike frames etc there is email address pabloxxl.stefan@gmail.com

On Mad Elk Cycles one of the contacts is Stefan… The english is pretty much the same on his post and their site. there is also the text:
    Author
    Lobo and Pablo, happy riders

Shame as I really want someone to trust but this is a v poor start if true. 🙁

Pabloxxl – Are you not Stefan of Mad Elk Cycles so surprised you had to google your own work place…

Luffy and Endlessrides’s posts point out that they is nothing massively unreasonable going on here. If this was the same situation in my profession in this country I would be upset at unregulated outsiders coming in to make a quick buck at the cost of my income.

Mine is coming up for 2 years and has had nothing other that a couple of bleeds after cutting the hose a couple of times. Still working perfect but feel I should send it off for a once over. If you have a good one then less messing might be better than pulling it apart all the time?

My experience was that I had an old worn set of 170mm xt cranks and managed to score a good set of cheap 175mm xtr cranks. I had wanted the xtr cranks for years and really wanted to like then. 5 rides on them and I gave up as they did feel different to me. Sold them on here and was gutted I never got on with them. Still using the worn xts. Some people are more sensitive to change than others. I am not making any claims that this is linked to skill, just sensitivity.

I felt a larger than expected difference between 170 and 175. Both in leverage and in the input it takes to ratchet between fast corners and body position. Both my bikes run 170s and I am 5’10. I feel I am giving a little away in power but enjoy the ease of movement more.

Iain – At this time of year I find Mugdock best when it is wet to manage my expectations. This morning was good as it was lightly raining and not windy but just enough water to keep the mud from getting mega claggy. Obviously the next “dry” Mugdock day will be 2013, nothing better than getting up there on that day.

GT is ace all year but leaves a hell of a carbon footprint.

In contrast I was up Mugdock sliding all over the place. Was at GT last week and it was ace seeing the mix of people out and hearing tons of whoops from groups all over the place.

Is there enough paying punters etc to expand the trails at GT?

Had a good read of that Madelkcycles site. Something very foreign about the text. Does anyone know about them, do they have a track record? All looks a little odd?

Regards the issues above, luckily not had any of them so can not comment.

True Loco but there is secret Frenchie oil in them and without a true service manual I am a little nervous about cracking them open.

Mine shall attempt a channel crossing over winter 😮

The SXC manage to put on great races all year all over Scotland so why not do the same without chucking money at some white elephant trail. This is not the Olympics, it does not have to be an easy to film, new build flat track with specific features type venue with 10 billion live viewer expected worldwide. It is the commy games.

A venue could have been picked to showcase how beautiful Scotland is to oversees viewers etc. Maybe a bit of slightly more rural heritage close to Glasgow. Now they have a crushed stone Olympic copy track with Castlemilk as the backdrop. Lovely.

Sanny, I admit it is easy to snipe etc than bring something positive. 🙁

Unfortuantely I cannot see what a pro level course can grow to be in such an area when the demographic of mountainbikers using a challenging hilly courses is people spending over £800 on their equipment and not wanting mugged. Even dulled down for noobs the hills will put them off off pretty fast on a relatively small intensive loop. I doubt it shall maintain the numbers required to justify proper maintenance such as the seven stanes due to it’s location and proximity to a high amount of potential trouble. This on top of the fact the kids on MX bikes are going to wreck it. Come xmas and the locals see the track and mx bikes will be at the top of all their wish lists – not mtbs.

I have walked dogs there and everytime have felt threatened by drinking groups of youths or people on mx bikes. I would not be taking my bike there or leaving my car out of sight.

    What can it become?

In 2 minds on this one. Trying to regenerate somewhere etc is usually a good thing. The problem is I would not ever wish to ride there alone and probably would not ride there with friends as I know the area and you are too exposed. Riding a mtb that is regarded as an expensive item even when it is not could put you at risk. The track may also struggle with boys on scramblers ripping it up etc. Tough call but I think wrong call and the site was probably chosen for the least amount of red tape to the council as the place is a 5hithole. Sorry, but true imo.

Unfortunately I think a lot of people are riding duff Devilles as I think there was a big batch of oversized internals which cause the issue. The fork still felt slightly better than my Lyrik when duff but amazing once sorted. Plusher than a plush thing which is not always the reviews you hear.

Something like heels down, legs proper bent and you should be able to brake very hard without too much weight going through your arms and maintaining more control. So thay say on interwebs.

    Or

Just fit massive forks. I have a 100mm stumpjumper that I put a 130mm fork on and it is ace fun but it is more stress on the lower back when climbing. You will be raising the BB height a little which you may or may not notice. This actually helped on my Stumpy as it was very low to begin with.

Try putting your weight through your feet when you brake, cheap too!

The shoes are M162s and you can feel the support when clipping in as you compress the sole against the cage.

    mrplow

On the support thing. I have one set of shimano shoes where the cage on the trails does offer more support as if they are made to work together. Does not happen with my other shimano shoes.

So not suitable because of being hidden in the trees? Probably true as they have had to put so much into XC to make it viewable.

Never thought about climbing in the Olympics.

Was up today. Love the natural trails of the top of the hill in deuchny woods. Bike park was good fun if a little small. Managed to clear the big doubles on the 2nd attempt. Messed on some fun stuff on Kinnoull that we have been on before, ace area for a quick play

I like the look of advantages but a number of friends have had mega sidewall rippage issues so went LUST Ardent.

    mrplow

I rode a LUST Ardent 2.25 tubeless on the rear on those trails recently on a dry day just after heavy rain and it was pretty mint and again pretty mint on other trails where you want a little bit of drift and speed.
A highroller lust is mint but a bit too much work and a Larsson is fast but can be a handful on off camber slop. Ardent seems a great all condition choice for me on the back.

Thanks for the help. Don’t know if we will have the time to make Comrie Croft.

Followed my nose last time and found lots of trails but I think the bike park bit my have be closed for work so we never tried going down what I now think is the entry in Deuchny Wood.

I watched a man and his dog doing Berm Baby Berm at GT on Saturday. The guy reached the hairpin and the dog got confused trying to shortcut a good section of the trail. The rider carried on down the trail and the confused dog launched at full speed up the trail. Long shouts then followed from down the trail before the guy then pedals back up the trail in the wrong direction.

I love dogs and can see why people want to include them as it must be a ball for the dog but I think common sense has to be applied and a busy trail centre on a weekend at peak time is not the best idea. You can be lucky and have no issue or you can be unlucky and maybe a dog or rider could be injured as a result.
