I have ended up with an 06 enduro as my winter bike and a 2012 enduro as my summer bike…keeps me happy

Thank everyone for giving me good food for thought.

An STW crash course. Sounds like demoing back to back is the way forward to start this adventure.

I have to avoid the multi amp ideas although they sound pretty wise, or the better half will be the only noise I hear as she tries to work it. Shortly followed by something expensive with wires coming through the air in my direction! 😯

I am definately not an audiophile so sounds like it should do the trick. The budget is to be spent over time, probably not in a oner. I just like having a cap on my projects so that things don’t creep too far, I save that for bikes! lol

This is the general feeling I am getting. If I was to sacrafice one it would be music over cinema. I just wondered if there was a known route to get your cake and eat it from the one set of equipment. Seems not. Another industry that keeps things difficult to sell more units! 👿

I like the look of the Onkyo TX-NR515 AV amp and building a system around it. Maybe only starting with fronts and centre first but buying nice units. Slowly build it up as something to look forward to.

Would it be best to avoid the area during the competition if you are going up for a normal ride or will the numbers etc not be that big? 🙂

As said above Larssen or Ardent. Larssen is great fun but will struggle on off camber mud as so little side edge so depends how much of that you ride. Other wise ardent all the way.

I have some specialized tyres to try for a change this year but the two tyres above are both great for the right stuff. Larssen is also good for silly drifts if you are in the mood.

Cover over my camelbak so I don’t have to empty and wash it.

Hip Flexor stretches also very good for helping this and some core strength work.

Quite like the replies and had thought along the same lines playing devil’s advocate. But I do still worry about cost going up and the few that can afford it meaning an unlevel playing field. The 10% of races may be the difference between winning a sponsorship deal, championship etc etc.

That and that it leaves the flood gates firmly open to ever changing standards and may lead to less support for legacy equipment at faster rates etc.

Do I worry too much?!

My point would be that someone with a 26 DH bike might be looking on thinking they should have a 29er for that track. Suddenly they need 2 bikes for the one sport to think they have a level playing field or they choose not to enter. It is murcky.

That may be your perception but I doubt it will be everyones after a year of marketing madness and results to ponder while people ride different wheels at different races.

    As a starter:

I agree completely but I am talking about participation, not the very select few that actually make it.

However the perception of gains and losses may make you give up the sport earlier or not even enter – less participation.

I can’t think of many popular wheel vehicle based sports that different wheel sizes is a benefit to the sport? Motorsport – Formula racing, toca etc use a strict size.

Do Motorcross and Superbikes etc all benefit from different wheel sizes in the same class?

I know many have dabbled and then set the size solid, lesson from history?

Innovation does not make “sport” alone. Chess and Poker are still pretty solid games etc..

Road and track cycling and bmx have not suffered through stricter rules etc.

Formula one as an example struggled to be a “sport” through the Schumy years due to being a money competition.

Take on the points about same bike etc but there becomes a tipping point and wheel sizes and multiple bike choices may put people off. Especially younger competitors that want to win their classes, gain sponsorship and become professional. This year it sounds like we are going to have it tested at the top level so time may tell if there is a real difference. The “perceived” difference may be enough to put people off.

Was up Mugdock today and it looked like the hills north had a good bit of snow on them. Mugdock is riding really well

Excellent post, thank you for taking the time. I will probably smear about of grease on there for good measure while they are apart, spring side at least as it only has a small oil volume. 🙂

It tells you about checking the oil height but I require a dummies guide to pulling them apart so that I don’t mess them up?

E.g. how to get lowers off correctly to clean them up and get all the oil gunk out?

    Dropper for uninterrupted flow.

Comment on the stem not even required!

Orange 225 – Do you have any detailed instructions for pulling them apart?

I am on the fence on this one.

Vettel has staked his claim early on in the championship like a true determined champion. Webber has crumbled and let him past. The issue I have is that Vettel went against team orders to do so including risking all the work and money put in by the team. I respect that he did the move etc but think it is poor play to dismiss a team order.

Webber has done the right thing but let himself down at the same time. If he continues being a gentleman then I doubt he will ever win a championship. He should have subtly run Vettel off the road. But again as said earlier he would have got his balls booted by his team. He should still do it and move team at end of the year after a storming season if he has it in him. So far he has only proven that he does not have real winning in him.

    Good race

Minion DHF front, Ardent rear. In winter I am running a larsen rear as I ride the road out of town to the woods to add a bit of distance and less dirty car faffage. Larsen is ace for mud fun.

Will be trying a butcher control this year on front and like the look of the ardent race as a new front tyre option if it comes out.

The only difference i really felt between an 06 coiled enduro and a 2012 enduro is the length of the stays. The old one is more stable at mental speeds and climbs better. The new one manuals much easier, does tight stuff better and feels more lively. I love both, currently using the 06 as my winter bike and it is positively dangerous in a good way

If you can find the exact part you need on the parts diagram them silverfish may be able to help you out. If they try to sell you a ton of parts go to formula direct. They were very helpful when i needed a couple of small parts to keep my brakes happy. I used the email address on their site.

And same question for using new xt double with a conventional 9 speed iscg 05 mount double chain guide like a gamut? Is it a funny chainline?

Is it a funny chainline on the xt double chainset or like a normal 9sp triple granny and middle ring?

e.g. will the xt double work with a normal 3 speed front xt 9sp mech?

I guess that if you follow the fireroads round and look for where the mud shoots out you will pretty much find everything on the hill. 🙂

It is an excellent aid but my mondy has 150k of stone chips to the screen and with the heating elements also in there it is not the clearest to see out of, even when clean. When ever I get in a new car it is like my vision has cured.

Worked as a baggage handler as a summer job. Not boxing/bagging is a very silly idea. Half of it will be stolen and the other half broken by the time it gets there. Witnessed first hand a very expensive at the time carbon bike broken in a hold when a handler tried to ride it on the wet aluminium floor for a laugh.

There is also the point regarding oil and damage to other peoples’ property and the potential damage to hold/baggage handling equipment such as belts etc.
