if it makes you feel any better our southern bastard electricity bill has gone up by £100.00 PER MONTH!

why? because we were paying by direct debit but they didn’t review it and we ended up not paying enough!

pfft. and we can’t change to a cheaper supplier (southern electricity are the most expensive suppler for our area) until the unannounced debt is paid.

so how would you check if your bill was normally about £60.00 and you haddn’t erected a personal street lamp?

god knows but we feel utterly stitched up! oh and the ombudsmen was hopeless. pfft.

just picked up a couple more!!

this one, its an earlier model than my EM and the lens is 100% manual :)

    and this pretty little thing:

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to lay my hands on film for the Art Deco Kodak (although it would be great if I could) but the Zenit-E is going to be put to work for sure!! :)

“I hate the fact, but in this situation the police have ALL the power”

    excuse me?

The last time I checked the UK’s Police are Public Servants, not the government’s private army.

If you are acting within the law and causing no nuisance or manage to others then the Police should treat you with respect and courtesy.

If they have suspicions then they should voice them.

I do not subscribe to the “Nanny State” or the “its for your protection citizen” impressions that people have of our Police Forces and I also think that for the most part they do a difficult and often thankless job.

    Blimey, well…

I’m really enjoying using my completely manual SLR camera, I’m not in a hurry to see what is on the two rolls I’ve taken over the past few days, I’ve got a couple of rolls that are being processed at the moment and I’m excited to see what they hold. Perhaps the “not being in a hurry” is part of it, I’m enjoying the time it takes to focus, the every adjustment I consciously make whilst setting up and taking shots and even the time between the films coming back!

I’m not doing it because I’m against digital, if you read my first post I was actually planning on buying a D90 but circumstances conspired against me and if I’m honest I’m glad they did. II don’t know why but using this Zenit EM is full of tiny pleasures, using a device that requires no electricity is a pleasure, measuring the light and then dialing in the settings, risking some variations to the settings just to see what happens and knowing that I won’t be seeing the results in a matter of seconds does, for me, add to the experience.

I also like listening to records, vinyl isn’t dead, I even bought the better half a record for christmas, its just a different way of experiencing things, my record player doesn’t pop and crackle and dare I say it, it sounds closer to a live performance than CD or a lossless MP3. (I also use an iPod and a Primare V20 disk player).

I’m in it for the experience, the journey can often be just as much fun than the eventual destination.

    viva la difference!

oh and please keep upgrading folks, often leftovers can taste better than the nouvelle cuisine! :)

    great post avdave2!

there’s a switch on the Helios Lens that seems to enable you to choose if you want the aperture setting to affect the view finder or just kick in when you fire off a shot? the view through telephoto I have darkens & lightens as you change the aperture but with no option to have the view unaffected by aperture, its all dark arts to be what goes on in them there lenses at the moment!! :D

    (but I’m learning!)

yes it is, I figured I’d take a punt on it and the result comes out like Guinness and tastes great, really smooth, little to no bitterness and throughly addictive! :)

The lass I bought it from is called: tulips2008 on ebay, if you drop her a line tell her that I recommended her and she might do you a good deal!

I called whittards outlet store and they quoted me £75.00 for 250g x4 lets just say that its considerably better value from her! :)

well I’m of the belief that its better to have a slightly smaller frame with layback (although I also subscribe to long travel forks and short stems), The 19 orange would probably be spot on for a 6 footer without the layback, stick the layback on and it would suit someone slightly taller who was after something “chuckable”, best option is for him to throw his leg over one and see how it feels.

a 19 P7 with a thomson layback and a +50mm stem would be a blast, any bigger could be a bit of a gate imho
