Idlewild are still going. They had a new album out not so long ago. Hugely hugely underrated when you look at the inexplicable popularity of some other scottish bands (ahem).

@bikebouy – some of us have not forgotten Harriet from the Sundays

we seem to be mostly mentioning bands hardly anyone had heard of in the first place. In which vein, I give you

You should read the information leaflet, particularly guidance on how to take the drug and any warnings (e.g. don’t drive) but some sections can be unnecessarily alarming unless you read carefully. Be aware that side-effects don’t happen to everyone (in the same way that not everyone gets the same level of benefit) and that the list includes all side-effects reported as related to the drug, including those seen very, very rarely. If in doubt, talk to your doctor/pharmacist.

@MCTD – I assume your wife has seen a man without his pants before. Even kids are more likely to point and laugh. Nekkid people really aren’t that horrifying, you know.

Be ready for black ice like pebbles and braking bumps you could lose your car in. According to lots of whingers on here.

Personally, I’d give it a go but ride behind in case someone is coming up fast.

The cyclist is clearly looking for a barney, and I do think we should make an effort to let faster traffic past when possible, but I can’t believe people on here (and oh look who it is) advocating he gets a good hiding.

are you a member of a club? I seem to be able to see rides of other people in the same club even though I don’t follow them and their rides are otherwise hidden. I’m sure I don’t see inside their privacy zone (fnar fnar).

how would we verify it? you could always phone them and ask. If it does turn out to be dodgy… Are you any where near Sevenoaks?

    EDIT: too slow…

You never have this problem with a pasty

until you bite into one edge of a steak bake and have a pyroclastic flow of super-heated “meat” slurry burst out of the bottom melting the flesh from your fingers and bespoiling your shirt

Stoke and Doncaster?! Why not add Rotherham to the list while you’re at it?

Sheffield is a great place *but* getting to anywhere in the West (e.g. Wales) is a ballache. Manchester suburbs also have good access to the Peak but are a lot closer to Wales, the Lakes etc.

Don’t forget to budget for a shorter stem. I doubt that riding position would suit the well-nourished physiques of most on here (me included).

Isn’t that the going rate for beer?

not round here (Sheffield), thankfully. I don’t think Yorkshire folk would stand for that!

It needs someone with the “second is first loser” mentality to give it a go, and unless Movistar can arrange for Quintana / Valverde to work together in a death or glory mission I can’t see anyone else being able to out-Sky the team.

My thoughts exactly. Movistar need to be prepared to sacrifice one of them. Assuming Quintana as leader, Valverde has to go for a full bore attack to stand a chance of breaking Froome. Sky will be forced to bring him back and that might give Quintana a chance to get away. Repeated little digs don’t seem to do anything as the Sky train just TT’s back on to the wheel.

A Bertie Inn steak dinner might for Valverde liven things up nicely but that’s a comment for the other thread…

There are footpaths up there. On a Sunday in July it’ll be full of stick waving redsocks so not ideal for a cheeky route
EDIT I’ve walked it in the past. Could be OK on the bike after you’ve carried up there but I’d keep it for the right day

we were upstairs in the semi discussing whether the front or rear bedroom gave the best view. Waking up to either would be amazing.

I decided to buy my current house when I realised I would see my route out into the peak when I open the curtains in the morning. Having said that, it wouldn’t make up for living in a shed

I don’t know what the compromises are but riding from the door is brilliant. Makes it so much quicker to get out.

the % scans bit is the least convincing section. if “evidence suggests scans only show something truly important in a tiny minority (<5pc) of people with back pain” then almost 1 in 20 scans do show something truly important. Given we’re talking about a non-invasive diagnostic procedure, i.e. very low-risk, that sounds like an argument in favour. What’s far more enlightening is the next bit, about the rate of scan findings in those without back pain.

So the sponsors logo’s/no sponsors logo’s arguments are all fairly acedemic. You look like a sex offender.

In lycra??? Hardly. Think Jimmy Saville’s loose tracksuits, a Catholic priest’s robes, etc. etc. Loose clothing (think baggies!) is sex offender territory.

Most people think cyclists wear lycra because we get our jollies from showing people the outline of our genitals. That’s why you have to try to make the perverts fall off.

Tour/WC jerseys are a different situation from team kit. WC stripes when you’ve not earned them is like wearing someone else’s medals.

Full team kit just looks a bit silly, like you’re a kid or a mascot.

    All IMNSHO of course…

Is there a bit missing from the video where he stops for a steak sandwich at chalet reynard? I guess it’s interesting to see the effort, recover, effort, recover pattern but he discussed that in interviews at the time.

depends what the bike is travelling in. Mine went in with the bike last time but that was in a hard case. Would be in my hand if I used a soft bike bag.

theonlywayisup who posts on here tried a 5-speed SA hub (with disc brake) off-road but didn’t get on with it and sold the wheel to me for use on my frankenbike commuter. It’s fine round town but is a ballache to set up and perpetually seems like it’s not perfectly adjusted. Could just be my ham-fisted mechanicking but I wouldn’t fancy it off-road. 3-speed hubs may be better.
