I hope it’s *not* his surname

reporting it doesn’t necessarily mean the police do anything, it can just go on record in case of future incidents (either him in his car or him going round to Ton’s house).

I had a neighbour threaten to burn the house down in the night. I reported it, coppers said they didn’t have previous complaints about him, we agreed that no action was needed (as it would only have caused more aggro) but it was now on record in case I or anyone else had problems with the same bloke.

I am guilty of having done this to a beautiful Dave Yates fillet brazed MTB frame once. Like the Captain said, it was the wrong geometry and just didn’t work with drop bars. It was terrible to ride. Maybe a 29er MTB would be ok, but a 90s 26er was just wrong.

not to mention the fact it made even my commuter bike look like a thing of beauty…

is that not the turnout for the average pootle?

EDIT: that would be totally the opposite of a pootle then <ahem>

using “of” in place of “have”, i.e. I would of written “would have” but I’m too dumb to realize it’s wrong :x

    I’m not surprised – aren’t they £20,000 or something?!

a quick google shows a bit lower but **** me! you could buy a few bikes for that! 8O

(missing a “ysis training dates” just in case you were wondering!)

That’s even better with the route/root typo as well

I cut a wedge from it and the General gasped. A debate ranged about the time at which one should still slice from the top rather than cut out a wedge.

I’m confused. Round cheese must be treated like a cake: cut triangular portions

Does this mean mcmoonter’s companions are more or less posh than Debretts? Or have I missed some crucial distinction?

Oh why oh why do people feel the need to spout negitive thoughts out into internet land. For those people you sound like a bunch a trail centre gay boys

you can count me out too if you think that sort of thing is clever

is this going how you thought it would?

Re the comparisons with climbing, there’s a saying that “there are old climbers and bold climbers but no old, bold climbers”. Basically you either grow out of that sort of risk taking or die doing it. It’s only a matter of time before you misjudge something when the margin for error is that small. See John Bachar, Jimmy Jewel etc for details.

    Good work there!

I spent a day last week bodging one of those mending plates to make a new mudguard mount. There just wasn’t enough clearance for it to run under the brake bridge so I cut a section from the middle of the mudguard and created a new bracket which extends over the brake caliper. Very satisfying, if ridiculously time consuming, and it gave me the excuse to buy a riveter which gave a much better looking result than nuts and bolts.

I always slow enough to check people are OK. Last time I was out we helped some random bloke get his chain out from where it was jammed in the chain rings (**** off big allen key and violence was the answer). Only as he picked his bike up ready to ride off did one of his mates reappear.

That’s a dangerous route to go down. 6 months time the OP could be back asking if the forum has a big game hunter.

search on here for a thread by rogerthecat. I don’t know if he got it fixed but I recall he made a lot of noise on twitter and/or contacted CEO direct which prompted bt to eventually do something.

it’s the pointing in the eyes that’s the problem, not brightness. Head mounted lights are the worst

I’m not sure of the need for in-ear noise cancelling. I guess it might help a bit but there’s not that much comes through well fitting IEMs. Custom fit ones go into your ear canal up to the bend (putting them in is basically screwing them into the side of your head) so you really can’t hear much while they’re in

i’ve got some active noise cancelling ones and they’re very effective. They also take up loads of space in my bag, stop me sleeping on my side etc.

I’ve also got some custom in-ear phones (from here) and they’re just as effective at blocking out noise. They take up less space and don’t get in the way. The IEMs weren’t cheap but they sound stunning and have made the active cans redundant.

Cheers. I was looking at your website last year and planning an early autumn trip but then had a biggish off (OTB and landed on my back in a lot of rocks). Now getting fitter again and your combination of fine trails and good food is calling me. Looking at second half of summer probably but I’ll follow up by email…

On my (far too brief) trip to BA I ended up going on the back stage tour of the opera house. Not something I’d have planned on doing but I tagged along with some colleagues (it was a work trip) and it was well worth it.

Argentinian steaks (plus local red wine) also stick in the memory.

Wish i’d spent longer there, would like to go back if I can find an excuse…

    Thread hijack….

Doug – what time of year is good for your neck of the woods? The question is really would I be a beetroot coloured sweat dripping englishman hiding under a tree/rock/bar during the summer?

potatoes are regarded as “bad” based on having a high glycemic index. The problem with pasta etc isn’t that they’re hard for the body to use but that they’re all too easily broken down and the excess is stored as lard. There are times when high GI isn’t bad (quick energy when you’re about to pop on a climb) and times when it is bad (other times)

(I await someone more knowledgeable and less pissed pointing out the errors in what I’ve just said…)

I know someone who has a frame like that. It was a custom because he’s 6’7″. It has normal 700c wheels but they look ridiculously small under him.

The weird thing on that bike posted is the way the saddle is down low like someone average sized is trying to ride a giant’s bike.

not sure I’ll make stage 1, though I do have family (ish) in Knaresborough who might be useful. Will ride out from Sheffield to see stage 2 somewhere. Hopefully I can ride out on the morning and won’t be forced to sleep in a ditch like some sort of lycra-clad tramp.

we’re all laughing at that first one but someone on here only a few days ago was asking if he could use a tapered steerer fork in a non-tapered frame

    MrNice
    Free Member

I was looking for them a few days ago and it seems impossible to get the longer ones (i.e. the ones you need for a carbon fork) in this country. Someone in US was offering to send them for a total cost (including postage but with the potential for customs on top) of >£40. Stuff that.

As you’re talking about a CX bike breatheeasy’s solution would work. For a road bike where I couldn’t just replace the bolt I filed out the bracket so the extra long nut would go through.

LBS pointed me towards GP 4 seasons in 25mm. They were a bitch to fit but I’m happy with them in use. They’re on sale at Evans

Being a cynical and suspicious type, I see a possible explanation for the proposal. Clearly this sort of system would cost far more to set up than would be brought in by charging a few foreign types for their treatment. However, once you have it set up you could easily use it for charging all the rest of us for our healthcare.

Where’s Kaesae when you need him…

I hope that no-one expects anything to their advantage from this. PDNPA will just dictate what they want.

so we should do f*** all instead?
