I think I saw the cables on Bamford clough. Near the bottom, just before I said “oh shit, there’s a fence”

Climbing New Road will be a right boring slog on an mtb. Hurstclough Lane is rideable going up (if you’re fit).

Three is great for me. Unlimited calls and data and I can use my allowance abroad (not all countries but most of Europe and US). Tethering is an extra £5 a month. Coverage is supposed to not be as good as some networks but I’ve had no problems.

cynic-al – you could try explaining a bit (a lot) better. You gave me the “read the OP” thing but you seem to expect people to guess at the bits you don’t actually say. Assuming you mean this is all a short term thing while your phone is being fixed I can’t work out why you’re bothering. Why don’t you go and ride your bike instead? It’s a lovely day 🙂

i5700 is pretty basic. There may not have been much development on rooting it as there’s usually more attention on more high end phones. time for a new phone?

I use BMC for travel insurance. Started when my trips were climbing / mountaineering but they seem tuned into active people generally. Fortunately I have no experience of needing them to pay out.

The key seems to be reading the small print about what is/isn’t covered and checking payout levels. a low premium usually seems to mean something isn’t covered and calculating the replacement value of all the kit most of us carry about can be an eye-opener

what sort of 7km is it? 7km at 10% up an alp or 7km along a valley to the cable car? would make a *huge* difference to how attractive it is.

and I second what wallop was saying, there’s a lot of other factors that’ll affect what people will pay

I rooted a couple of samsungs (s2 and s something mini). Since it worked first time both times I don’t have any experience of how to get over problems.

What model of old samsung is it?

I wouldn’t really call a Domane suspended. There’s just enough give to save your arse a bit but it’s far from suspension.

Local to my parents’ place (I rode from the door). Ride it twice if you want to hit 100 miles.

Oh and of course whenever you try and phone them, you have to enter the phone number you are enquiring about. Except I don’t have one. So they just repeat “enter the phone number you are calling about” over again…

the system recognizes the words “I want to complain” and will put you through to a real person relatively quickly. You can guess how I discovered this

    Only 81km but 2625m ascent – over 32m/km.

That’s pretty tough. In the Peak I reckon on 1 mile of climbing per 50 miles without going looking for climbs. If you set out to make a lumpy route you could get more climbing in but it might get a bit contrived.

You know that loop starts further out than Hathersage?

Around that area is definitely where I would be going. Somewhere on this site was a link to a winter proof route.

The swoopy stuff won’t be swoopy until it dries out a bit 🙁

EDIT: found this but not sure of the current Rushup Edge status

on a more positive note, there’s some really under-rated old school “exploring the countryside” riding in the white peak. Generally not very technical but fun if you like covering distance. It gets very muddy in the winter but it’s great in early summer before the singletrack is too overgrown with bracken and stingers. come back in a couple of months…

based on what I can see out of the window (3.5 miles from Holmesfield) anyone going out in the next week should plan to ride in wellies. Some of those trails will be fine but others, including cartledge lane, will have enormous swamps to wade through.

if the diesel isn’t getting the runs it needs why do you want low mileage? if you’re not doing big miles, could you go for above average mileage but younger, figuring the high mileage will have dropped back to average by the time you get rid?

there are 1.6 ecoboosts with 150 or 180 bhp. 180bhp is badged as zetec s, the 150 can be badged titanium (possibly other things too).

Currently looking seriously at getting one myself (changing from 7 year old NA 1.8 focus and looking for a bit more grunt)

    Makes you think, doesn’t it?

Me, no. I’m still living in blissful ignorance of the truth. But someone with greater insight than me could start to put two and two together.

Maybe it’s just that I’m used to seeing modern compact frames and/or a more head down racy position but it looks to me like the rider is on too big a frame. The ad says he’s 6’2″ and it’s a 65cm but then we all have different proportions

Dunno 🙁 It worked OK for me.

I’m assuming your Garmin account is working OK, your strava account is working OK (other than this), you gave it a few minutes to think before realizing it’s not working, and you’ve tried again since?

Strava help/forums seem pretty good if you don’t get an answer here.

It’s entertaining when you leave them in a mesh pocket on a sunny day, put them on, then wonder what the hell is going on before you realise.

I had a bit of a panic when I wiped mud off the lenses of my fancy new glasses and thought it had removed the coating. A few seconds later the clear patches had darkened to match the rest of the lenses and I calmed down again…

Rudy Project here. They work and I love them. As said above, different models cover different light ranges (e.g. clear to lightly tinted, lightly tinted to welding mask) so you need to work out what you want.

There’s lots of places to stay around Bedoin. I stayed in Lafare (my parents have a place) and the ride over to Bedoin made a nice hors d’ouevres before the big climb. Anywhere around that area (La Roque Alric, Suzette, Le Barroux) would work the same.

While you’re there I recommend riding Gorges de la Nesque – it’s really beautiful. I did a loop from Villes-sur-Auzon but next trip I plan to do that road up to Sault then climb the Ventoux (longer but less steep than from Bedoin).
