so are these running stock android then?

I always fancied a dual sim approach to save carrying two phones (personal and work)

Never heard of the M check. The closest I get is “lift the bike a few inches and let it drop to the ground. If nothing sounds loose you’re good to go”

that was exactly the situation on that ToBC. Sections that would have been boring on the mtb became a whole lot more interesting in the drops with narrow tyres.

You could tell the riders with mtb experience on that ride – I yo-yoed with one group all morning as they overtook me on the tarmac then I got past while they minced along the off-road bits.

interesting to see how many of us did the ToBC. was a really good day out, and nice to do something a bit different

I did Tour of the Black Country sportive on a Trek Domane with Bontrager Race wheels. Plenty of bridleway sections and it managed fine.

You might find the rims are quite narrow (you’ll get a bigger footprint with a wider rim) but unless you do something silly you’ll probably pinchflat before the wheel goes.

Creative person wants creative control over their work… farm it out and it’ll be good but never EXACTLY how you’d want it done.

there’s creative control and there’s being precious. it’s pretty common for artists to get an assistant to do some of the donkey work

personally I’d love a good quality print or two (a book wouldn’t get looked at)

Edge 810 works for me. Not as fancy as the 1000 (eg b&w screen) but battery life is pretty good. Also cheaper.

so does that mean that more confident cyclists *should* be in the road? Or that you have to give up once you reach a particular level of competency? 😕

given the usual suggestions when people ask about protein supplements, I’m glad you told us it was for your mum.

It sounds like the usual concerns of sugar content etc are irrelevent. A smoothy with fruit might be sufficiently tasty to help her drink it. What jkomo and others suggested above…

for anyone who wants to link Dore station to the white peak rides there are various little bits of woodland to ride through on the way out to Holmesfield and an entertaining descent down past woodthorpe hall on the way back.

Wharncliffe is very good if you like DH/enduro type stuff but you’ll do a lot of laps in 5 to 6 hours. Similar for Parkwood so I assumed you’d be looking to get out into the Peak.

Just been downstairs for a look at the VG book. It does have both the links I mentioned and suggests routes to join to once you’re out of town.

I’d be looking at out through the parks, up the bastard (porter clough) and over to Redmires and Stanage Pole. Down the plantation steps, back up the dale and over houndkirk moor. From that point you can cut left through blacka and home via Eccy woods. Or if you’re still keen there are add-on loops further south. Longshaw estate then Totley Moor back into Blacka would be good. Beyond that you’ve got the Froggat/Curbar permissive bridleways but it’s a long way back into town.

All depends how fast/strong you are 🙂

do you have the Vertebrate Graphics Dark Peak book? Pretty sure it includes the route out through the parks. Or you could get off the train at Dore and ride up through Ecclesall Woods. Either way you end up on the Eastern Moors with plenty to go at. How well do you know the area?

My weird dream involved a police dog (ex-MrsNice and I had been discussing a notoriously bitey local police dog who was keeping lawyers busy claiming damages).

In my dream I was in a very smoky flat (ahem) and answered the door to 2 coppers accompanied by the bitey dog. They told me the dog wanted to come in because he’d re-trained as a sniffer dog and believed there were drugs on the premises. I said I didn’t want them to come in without a warrant and they told me if I didn’t let the dog in he’d bite me. I asked what would happen if he came in and found drugs and they said, as if to an idiot, “then he’ll bite you!” I can’t remember what happened after that, I think I woke up.

muscles dont stretch and they are often adhered to bone along their length which makes it impossible.

adhered along their length and so impossible to stretch doesn’t sound right unless I’m missing something. how would such a muscle contract to cause movement?

I had some endura ones like that (also far smaller than other Endura shorts in the same size for some reason).

are you going to explain why you want such a thing? is it to prevent other rugger players de-bagging you for a laugh?

If you think she’s anything other than another London based meeja type building her portfolio of TV and radio presenting work you’ve not been paying attention or seen her own website. go read the colour supplement pieces for a true taste of the smugness.

you may find that a dog chooses you

last time I had a new dog was shortly before I went to uni. My parents and sister went to Digbeth dogs home thinking about what breed they wanted and got chosen by a Heinz 57 dog-on-a-bit-of-string mutt who was so pleased to meet them (crazy wagging and licking through the bars etc) they immediately reserved her.

perhaps it’s just me, but if I was presented a custom built bike that used zip ties to keep the mech cable on the chain stay I wouldn’t be massively happy

I think that’s actually holding on the chain stay protector. I hope it’s not intended to be permanent, a bike like that deserves better.

it’s not defending Keaveney to realize that LaLa is one of the smuggest and self-congratulatory people on the planet (even amongst DJs). Her biorhythms section is just Our Tune re-packaged for the internet generation. I thought she was rather wonderful when I first heard Kenickie but that feels like a very long time ago.

a quick google tells me R200 arms were fitted between 1977 and 1983. Even given their reputation for longevity I’d be going for something that is simply old and not “vintage”.
    like this maybe

someone else might know more but I’d just be looking for one that’s not been obviously kicked about. Apart from gross abuse they’re solidly built and there’s not much to go wrong. There are loads of them about too.

s shaped arm must be *very* old. My old P3 is at least 20, probably 25 by now and it’s a straight arm.

they’re a good SH buy as there’s so little to go wrong. New rubber band and new cartridge and they’re as good as new.

agree that there are lots of modified versions about. I nearly got one of these

you say you tightened lots of things. Did you check all the brake bits were aligned before tightening? i.e. loosen off, align, then tighten back up?
