[Thread hijack] Any of the posters still living in/around Sydney? And can anyone recommend the best place to sell a s/h (road) bike in Oz? It’s about time I owned an mtb again [/hijack]

The keyboard player from D:Ream to a world-renowned physicist. That’s a much bigger transformation than one pop niche to another.

Not specifically Belo Horizonte but Brazil in general. Drink caipirinhas. Eat coxinha. Drink chopp. Eat picanha. Drink more chopp. Eat pao de queijo. Realize your trousers no longer fit.

    EDIT: I forgot “eat bacalhau”

A local hack managed to quote me word for word and the report read “Neighbourhood Policing Inspector refuses to go down in history as the person who banned children from recreation ground.”.

so you’re not their scapegoat then?

Garmin GPS watches will do it but they’re a pain to upload afterwards (mine is a pain at least, more recent models may not rely on a shonky cable to upload via laptop).

Pete Evans is all over the meeja here in Oz and he is indeed a Grade ‘A’ nobclanger. Recently he was advising Australians not to wear sunscreen because it’s “full of chemicals”

I was in this situation (changing a joint mortgage to my name only) a few years ago. The mortgage company wouldn’t take the ex’s name off the mortgage so I had to re-mortgage in my own name.

The hatchbag ones aren’t cheap but they’re great. I threw muddy bikes and all sorts of other crap into the back of my 1-series and it was pristine when I came to sell it. I’d buy another one for a new(-ish) car.

Not been to Fazenda but I have done the Brazilian BBQ thing and it’s fantastic if you’re a carnivore. Mmmm, picanha [drools]. Last time I made sure I took the bike out in the morning so I got my money’s worth :D

if you ever happen to be in Sao Paulo I can recommend Fogo de Chao[/url]

It’s tyres with a very shallow tread I’m looking at, not full-on cx tyres so I’ll give it a try with 32s. Cheers

I am enjoying my second summer of 2016 (moved here from Sheffield a few weeks ago)

I call BS everyone knows Sheffield doesn’t have a summer [/quote]

How dare you, Sheffield does have a summer. Usually one day in July. Typically when I’m at work…

climbing rope is not ideal because it’s stretchy but it would work if you know how to set up a crevasse rescue type system with prussiks or jumars

Get a drone. You can get it to fetch you a cuppa whilst you’re on the sofa.

anesthetic needles are nothing. Having the wires that had been holding my finger together taken out hurt far more. I’m sure they should have something more high-tech for that job than a pair of yellow-handled pliers identical to the ones in my toolbox (but cleaner) 8O

isn’t the reason they’re unhappy that the visa rules were changed after they moved to UK? (or a scheme was cancelled?)

that said, I agree it wouldn’t have this level of attention if they were from some other background

Any attempt to base their offer on your current salary is nonsense.

it should be nonsense (i.e. you should be paid for what you contribute) but this is exactly what employers do. If you’re currently underpaid relative to the market they’ll offer you a nice rise to tempt you in but not more than that so they save budget for other people/things.

macruiskeen – that was my understanding too but the situation is the courier websites say “no batteries” then justify with a reference either to leakage from lead acid batteries or to exploding Li-ion

anyone able to suggest a courier who don’t have a blanket ban on batteries?

while you don’t want cripplingly tight shoes as a beginner you also don’t want them too loose and baggy or you’ll never learn to use your feet (this is Dave MacLeod’s advice not just mine before anyone tells me i don’t know what I’m talking about). Trying them on to find the brand that suits your foot shape is essential

I can’t get very low on the pistol squat but I can do them (ish) both sides.

A few years ago I could get up from the ground like that (sit down with legs out in front, bend one leg so foot is sole down, rock forward and stand up). I’m not going to try now because I think it’ll be depressing.

I’ve had a Sinn for a year. I wound it once when I bought it, and once since then after I didn’t wear it for 3 days. I’ve never used a winder, I have a desk job and it’s never stopped. That doesn’t answer your question but it doesn’t sound right that it’s struggling during the day.

it says use 13A fuse in the outlet. this is why I was figuring a plug would be OK. it’s not any more powerful than a stand-alone electric heater I have

If it causes the electric to trip it’ll be the Plinth of Darkness.
