THIS is a warped cover version:

tunnel just makes more sense financially, ferry prices are silly in comparison.

thanks for the suggestions, my experience of the peripherique has been awful, maybe i’ve just been unlucky.

Rouen isn’t a massive detour, you just miss out on a bit of motorway so it will take a little longer (it’s only 50km longer)

Most farmers would put a pair of dogs in (legaly I might add) and sit in wait for the fox to come out shooting it on the run

    with a shot gun

hmm, for now i’ve found a pair of pretty new condition minions (think one was bought in the alps last time) for the wife’s bike (50aR 42aF)

i’ve bunged a pair of Intense World Cup DH Edge DCs on mine but they are looking a little thread bare on the (single ply) sidewalls

you’d never shoot at a moving fox with a rifle. more to the point you’d never hit a moving fox with a rifle. they are tiny, generally far away and bloody fast movers!

i’ve seen the aftermath and certainly know farmers that would try it and have threatened people before. it really is rare though, the law is more to help against persistent escapees and stray animals.

it’s extremely uncommon these days particularly as less and less farmers actually have a firearms licence and would struggle to keep it anyway unless they could prove they had exhausted all other avenues of control. it used to happen. it’s still bandied about as a threat by some farmers.

    oh do be quiet.

    you asked a question.

i gave you an answer which was ‘not access land’

there was some discussion as to the wording of the law.

then i gave you some recommendations as did crikey.

phone the tourist board if you don’t have the sense to glean some useful information from the replies on here

TJ – as i’ve already said, in England your access to CROW open access land is conditional on your dog being on a lead during nesting season and around livestock.

of course there is. just not access land. use your eyes. best bet will be around the reservoirs that have shore lines. a bit of common sense applied to avoid sensitive nesting sites. you’ll find a lot of the low level fields have no sheep in as they’ll have been tipped out onto t’moors now. mown hay meadows are a good bet.

i don’t think he’s particularly good at hiding his true feelings……

he’s ridden an amazing tour this year, the rule changes made it all the more impressive and he’s shut a few of his critics up with his efforts in the mountains. and he’s young, hopefully he won’t burn out and has a sparkling career ahead of him.

    fun innit

i was off my tits on shock/morphine when they got me into the chopper though, i thought the sign above my head saying ‘max load 1Kg’ was hilarious. my wife didn’t see the funny side, possibly as they were suctioning blood out of my face at the time

rangers/wardens/ROW officers are being particularly hot on it this year apparently. as stated above, during breeding season close control is not considered to be enough. I absolutely believe that a very well trained dog can be under the same amount of control as when on a leash, however, setting a good example is never a bad thing, not everyone’s dog is as under control as yours.

Please note these restrictions apply to all open access land:

From 1st March to 31st July dogs must be kept on a short lead (no more than two metres) to protect ground nesting birds.

At all times of the year dogs must be kept on a short lead (no more than two metres) in the vicinity of livestock.

Even well-behaved dogs can scare wildlife away from their young. Disturbance during the breeding season for ground-nesting birds (1 March – 31 July) can lead to eggs not hatching. Predators can also take young chicks if their distracted parents leave them unguarded.

according to CROW you should have your dog on a lead at all times when on access land during breeding season. it’s not just sheep that need protecting at this time of year

not too bothered about chainline, mainly because it upsets a few people on here.

it’s more the splines issue. my heart says it’ll be fine, my brain says my ham fisted ‘nuked from space’ style landings will rip them out. there’s still a fair bit in contact and i get a good few turns out of the end bolt on the cranks.

doesn’t help that it’ll be mostly unridden when I get to the alps as training weekend 1 was ruined due to poorly wifey and training weekend 2 is the week before we go.

I’ve never seen a wall plate dimmer rated at over 400W, 350W running off the one in our living room and they don’t last that long even at that.

once you start getting into the 400W plus range your talking more heat than a wall plate can accommodate. You’d need to install a dimmer device in the roof space and a control plate on the wall.

Solution would be to fit lower power lamps.

I’m not really think i’ve seen a room in a normal house that actually requires 550W of halogen lighting, that’s a lot of bright!

word may also have compressed the images when you save, not sure on 2007 but this is set to on by default in 2010. This time i used cutePDF set to 1600dpi, it looks about the same which would suggest that word has compressed the image (although i never saved the document so possibly not)

a brief experiment has shown some loss at high quality setting, quite marked loss of sharpness and it brings out the JPEG artefacts a bit
