SIL had a hernia op recently, she wasn’t asked to either but they gave her half a Brazilian anyway and a big arrow in indelible ink on her tummy pointing at her fanny. She wasn’t *that* impressed it has to be said…

please get with the program Mike! Whenever anyone asks about a lens you have to say ‘prime’, ‘depth of field’ and ‘glass’. Nothing else is acceptable.

    Sorry

I’m going to look at every picture i’ve ever taken at 200% in lightroom and fiddle with sharpness controls as punishment

I’m of the opinion (from my own experience as well) that the ‘prime lenses changed my life’ thing is to do with it forcing you to think a bit more about composition, once you’ve grasped that you can do the same with a zoom then you get over it.

Ive pulled the sliding door off a new iveco as in current shape and only about 2 weeks old

at least you pulled it off, they generally just fall of un-prompted

General picture lens, sort of the one i’d pop on when i dont know whats happening

a prime lens in no way fulfils this brief

whilst i enjoy using a prime lens, the edge it gives in sharpness, DOF etc are a massive price to pay considering the inflexibility it offers if i’m only carrying one lens.

look at the offerings from Sigma/Tokina et al. You want a mid range zoom, like the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 (£328.00 from warehouseexpress) or similar. then have a look at reviews on the web. check ebay as well.

oh and if you are going to be in muddy fields then front wheel drive will be better, old transits especially suffered from a severe lack of grip rear when not loaded

    Iveco and DAF are terrible

Sprinter/Transit common as muck, reliableish and are popular for a reason

Vauxhall vans have terrible turning circle

the mavic ones are the same as well and they come with the wheels so you might pick one up cheap

actually, looking at it in office 2010 you need to create a rectangle on the master and set the fill to ‘picture fill’ then you get the transparency option. There is no option to make a picture transparent in picture tools you can only set a transparent colour.

[Ewan’s solution will work equally well and most likely not to cause problems if you end up using the presentation on different versions of PP)

go to the slide master view, insert the photo scaled as you wish to the main master slide, depending on which version of PP you have you need to find picture properties and set transparency or fiddle with brightness and contrast until you get it right

ha, i’ve even paid for office this time, that’s karma enough

anyway, Web 2.0 and all that, the big corporates will subsidise the open source developers providing software without support for lower users.

    it’s the future

As nice as biscuits are they are not accepted forms of payment for rent, electricty, water, rates, etc.

i don’t set the prices, they could charge me more and I’d happily pay. I try to pay more when they offer to match crc (et al) prices but they won’t have it. what would you have me do? i can’t exactly shove £5 notes in fortune cookies and push them through the letter box!

looking at firewall log, it’s blocking a lot of outgoing requests from an SVCHOST process to ip 239.255.255.0

is this normal? there’s a log of a block ever few seconds at least

currently scanning with the above, the trojans that AVG found were on the contents i ripped off an external drive onto the new machine so could have been on old machine too.

thing is it’s a new laptop, i’m pretty sure i’d never been online with this machine when my skype was hacked.

looking at it, the email account that they have used to create the account was the only thing that still shared a password with skype, paypal however used a new password
