riding to the gym later for a my first double spin class, wish i wasn’t going to spinning (doing it to keep the wife company and make sure she doesn’t stare at men’s bottoms)

wish i wasn’t, would have been a cracking day to get out for our usual 60 miler

right, having cleaned the flange up things are looking good but i’m not 100% happy. I’ve ordered a new flange manufactured by the people who make the pump. If this doesn’t work then i’ll get a refund on the pump and get the plumber to fit one he approves of and then it’s his responsibility to get it working.

I can’t really try the shower without the current flange as i’d have to jury rig some kind of temporary flange which is just going to end up with me having to paint the damp patches on the kitchen ceiling again.

wine corks are the way ahead, easy to cut, easy to glue, easy to replace and you get to drink some wine

The rarer and tastier the wine the better they work of course.

it’ll depend massively on school/departmental policies and HR departments i reckon. If they are actively looking to reduce staffing levels (as most are) then it probably isn’t too hopeful. But you might be massively important to research funding/RAE etc so start kissing those asses ;-)

basically that reads as ‘you have the right to convert to open-ended unless we don’t want you to’

that’s how they got a few people at a friends institution, they went through the union in the end after 10 years of fixed term renewals.

6 year old UN52 in my klein sits in the same damp garage as my 3 sets of external BBs and rides in the same wet weather, gets washed with the same hose.

Some of the external bearing last no more than a month.

Whilst i accept that external is a stronger, stiffer and more durable CRANK system, as far as bearing durability goes square taper is by a long LONG way the best

you’re unlikely to find one that does a big enough range.

I have a halfords pro one that does 8 to 60 NM, anything smaller than that i use my judgement

you need to transfer your outlook.pst file

search for it on you C: drive then simply copy and paste

this will not transfer your account settings though IIRC.

there are various ways of doing it using wizards, you’ll probably find loads of info on the MS help forums

i don’t know the exact details but i do know friends in academia who have been right royally screwed by certain institutions at the end of fixed term contracts. best option is to talk to union rep. Given the current financial climate within academia i’d seek advice from someone on the inside.

    £31 seems a fair bit

we paid £47 for two to see Editors at the Birmingham academy (the new one)

bit perturbed by the booking fees though

    Ticket face value: 40.00
    Service fee: 7.25
    Total charges: 47.25

bit of a rip off if you ask me

that said it was an amazing gig

mind you we paid £7 per ticket to see Engineers in the smaller part of the academy and they were utter tosh, mainly because the sound engineer was useless.

you’d be surprised how little you can get on a 7.5 tonne truck. As you are only going 8 miles i wouldn’t worry too much though. If you are worried then hire one without a tail lift, they substantially lower the capacity, that’s why removals companies use wagons with a low rear floor and a ramp (plus tail lifts are slow). I’m not sure you’ll get near weight limit with household stuff though unless you own lots of really heavy stuff or stack it all near the front. as it’s only 8 miles i’d go for repeated runs with less stuff in, you won’t need to pack it as well then either

having gone from an aged pocket sprung ortho mattress to a very expensive (well, originally, in the sale + vouchers made it a lot cheaper. list price £1200, we paid £270) M&S hybrid mattress I really can’t recommend them enough, full thickness mattresses tend to be uncomfortable if you move around a lot at night, ours is pocket sprung with a 40mm memory top and it is unbelievable. I sleep on a lot of different mattresses in hotels and this combination is always by far the most comfortable.

    thanks tom, how’s you?

not going to replace boiler, it’s only 2 weeks old! There is a dedicated supply from the slave cold water tank as i said.

if cleaning the flange has made no difference then I’ll have to get the plumber back in to do as suggested, getting to be an expensive shower now! (we got rid of electric shower when we moved in, can’t stand them)

open the command prompt (start menu, search>cmd and open)

then type ipconfig /release end hit enter, then type ipconfig /renew and hit enter

    see if that works

    hmmm

there’s no horizontal pipe from the top of the cylinder, the shower is from the top output of the flange and the taps are supplied by the side output of the flange which is tee’d off to the vent.

    like this:

50mm primes are IMHO pointless as a single lens solution.

Fair enough you might get more involved in framing your pictures but then you are far more likely to miss the shot you want because you didn’t have time/zoom.

depends what you take pics of really, my 50mm prime is great for pics of flowers etc but i’d not take it on a cycling trip or a walk as i’d be seriously restricted.

vent pipe is full of hot squirty water :?

    mrmichaelwright

    thanks sprooty and welcome.

It’s all copper and i’m pretty sure the vent pipe is wet but i could always pop it off with the shower running to see if it’s dry or drawing in air. The only thing to suggest otherwise is that it is worse when left overnight, if it was drawing in air whilst running i’d guess that that air would dissipate overnight rather than build up?

just off to burn my hands again then

here’s a pic of a manky flange to keep you occupied

i’m always stunned by the difference between my 18-200 and old 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-D which came on my original film slr

it doesn’t mean i’d swap back though, the super zoom is just too versatile for me to care enough

thanks, originally that was a problem, the outlet was too close to the inlet but now the outlet is in the slave tank and correctly positioned.

I’ve just whipped out the Warwick flange and there was a hell of a lot of calcification on the HW/vent output inside, i’ve cleaned this off to see if this is maybe causing a blockage stopping the air escaping. My local plumbers supplier doesn’t stock warwick flanges and i’m loathe to order online as there are variations on the one i need that i don’t quite understand without seeing them in the flesh!

Is it possible that the excess air is caused by having the boiler temp set to high? The plumber commissioned it with the boiler output set to max and said to leave it there as we have thermostatic valves as well as a room stat. Could very high temperatures in the heat exchanger cause the water to boil slightly around the pipes? Tank thermostat is set to 50 (checked at tap with thermometer)

I’ve always stuck with Vaios because i’m a big fan of the X-black screens. My latest (and 4th in a row i think) has full HD and the colour reproduction (in my opinion) after calibration with my Spyder is truly awesome. Lightroom runs pretty quickly and although i expect that the win 7/bootcamp option would be faster , I couldn’t justify paying twice the price for a MBP with the same processor, less memory and a lower resolution (and not 16:9) screen.

got a very good deal on some bushnells (for my mum) from either microglobe or warehouse express

reduced from £200 to less than £100

Have to say, in comparison to my Leicas they are pretty good for the money

    for accommodation check out http://www.hostel-scotland.co.uk/

personally I’d aim to spend at least 1 out of 3 nights in an hostel of some kind. there is no way you will stay dry and the facility of a washer drier or drying room or even a radiator will be an absolute essential!

they were fitting out a wee shop in Torridon when we were up there last year, not sure if it ever actually opened. It also had a cafe on the side of it.

Sounds like a great tour, for following the coast check a few of the tracks that go round or over some of the smaller sticky out bits and connect dead end tarmac, some of them are well kept estate roads.

On a slow connection here at the moment so can’t show you our routes. feel free to email me mrmichaelwright@hotmail.com and i’ll send you the routes we’ve done

and do not underestimate the severity of some of the coastal routes, roads like the applecross road make the bigger hill passes look like a walk in the park!

there’s a very comprehensive set of exploded diagrams with part numbers in the SRAM website (look in the dealer section). get the correct part number and get your local SRAM dealer to order it
