We did from Newcastle to Les Arcs last year via Tunnel. Healthy delay on the UK side due to to troubles at the time. Planned to stop overnight at Reims, ended up stopping a lot sooner.
The return trip was trouble free in comparison. Worst bit was getting off the train with 300+ miles still to go.

This year we are getting ferry from North Shields. Its a bit dearer, but a lot less driving.

Tolls for us last year were over £100, but thats a big van.

Wouldnt fancy doing it in 1 go at all, though plenty do.

I used a garmin 500 on a trip back from france. It worked fine until we took off.

trace then ended up a direct straight line until we started to descend.

1200 mile route, average 209 mph. max 2808 (obviously I was on blackbird)

Lots of stuff around the les arcs area.

Sainte-foy, tignes, and across to la thuile, all relatively easy to get to, and some fantastic trails. Been 3 years running to that area, going back again this year.

We always go guided though. Local knowledge is a fantastic asset.

    In a word, yes.
Although he may be better off with a hardtail given the expected use.

I have one, upgraded to the carbon wheels. Havent noticed any more mtce requirements, but they are noticably stiffer. As for suspension bearings, they are ifetime warranty from whyte. I hear you just take it to the dealer and they replace them. I ve not had to do that on mine, the bearings are well protected from crud. As long as youre sensible washing it, shouldnt be an issue.

I dont know about resale, dont think they were that popular, but I have no hankering to get rid of mine.

1 note. there are 2 versions of rear triangle. The later one has a fillet of weld running up from the brake mount post. There were some issues with earlier versions cracking there.

Mine did, just 2 weeks ago.

Lucky Strike RGV 250 – I was Kevin Schwantz.

CCM R30 – utter, utter hooligan tool. I fell in love with supermotos after I got an Aprilia Pegaso and slapped a set of talon rims on it. I had a ZXR750 after that, was an awesome bit of kit but too boring unless you were doing ludicrouas speeds. So I got the CCM. Never needed a front tyre.

Frances-Barnett falcon 74. The only one I still have. 3 speed single cylinder 197 cc Villiers 2 stroke. Gears on the wrong side and 1 up 2 down. 40 flat out. Its nearly 60 years old.

I had the MG flavoured diesel estate 5-6 years ago.

Lovely to drive, reasonable on fuel.

Had issues with a boost pipe failing – couple of rubber rings sorted it though it was a bumper off job, and an issue with part of the engine electrics. Not the ECU, but it was solved with a ‘roverron’ tuning box.

I paid just under 5K for that one, low mileage, history, etc.

That one is way too much money.

A car derived van is just that. A car thats been made into a van. So the T5, vito etc does not fall into this category. They can be classed as Dual Purpose Vehicles though, with an additonal row of seats and side windows.

    Government guidelines on this.

Although nothing can really prepare you for the streams that appear from all the orifices, the worst experience I had was when minilugz hurt his arm when he was around 18 months old.
Hurt enough so that he just held it and wouldnt move it.

the barrage of questions at the hospital made me feel quite frankly terrible!

The other one – If it fits in the mouth its food. Checking poo for swallowed stuff is pretty grim.

Ive gone from doing kits to BIAB, didn’t buy that particular kit, but I have very similar.

Big kettle, nylon bag, home made chiller.

Bought a recipe pack from brew UK and took a day out. It was very cathartic and the beer turned out very good. Way better than imagined it would and loads better than the kit stuff.

    🙂

    Was it This one?

    Where it says

This is an Ex-Demo bike, spec may differ slightly from that listed and the bicycle may show signs of use. There is no warranty on the components, however the frame is still covered by the Manufacturer’s Guarantee.

    Just asking.

Early docks used the firewire power for charging at 12v.

Later ones used the USB 5v supply.

    you can get a convertor.

I have one, trying to remember where I got it from 🙂

I have the shwalbe snow studs on my communter, and a set of ice spikers for the HT.

I find that the commuter ‘squirms’ quite a bit on tarmac with the snow studs on, even at 65 psi. On wet, packed leaves they are good, and good on proper ice. I put them on at the beginning of december, and they will stay on probably till march.

The ice spikers on th HT are about 2 gears harder, If you get my meaning. 🙂 but awesome.

Ex trafic 115 crew cab owner.
Had it 6 years, replaced strut bearings once, other than that it never missed a beat. Pretty low use though, I do under 10K PA.

    I’d have another.

Laid up in hospital with some broken bones. Hadnt had a number 2 in a while. Dr said he would help me get to the loo after I explained I couldnt go in a pan. The number 2 drugs kicked in. I had to go.
    The Dr was on lunch.

    Nurse brought me a pan.

It was huge, I was mortified and the stench was quite horriffic.

After she cleaned me up and took it away, she ‘casually’ wandered round the ward with a can of Glade.
