that’s far too nice for a commuter! though it’s let down by weeds in the grass and fallen pebble-dash…

people have the right to know where the products are produced.
Even if they are Chinese, it does not mean that it´s bad

err, so why mention it?? 😕

ahahaha love all these responses! i love gentle rides. i remember someone asking about the edinburgh-glasgow canal route and most responses went along the lines of “it’s rubbish, just no technical challenging bits, blah blah blah, it’s hardly a super-greulling mountain adventure”.

carbon 456 with angleset will have a steep seat angle and slack forks. can you not get a different chain guide? i mean, it’s ok to not want the c456 (it’s not even alu!) but don’t rule it out based on angles 🙂

if you won’t hack away at the guard (and really, i don’t blame you!) then can you do something with the mech? cut it shorter and bend it round so it’s still a closed loop? though i imagine this could be a major stress!

kings of sound quality? ahahaha, HAHAHAHAHA! it seems to me with each subsequent music technology,, there’s more clipping of quality, from vinyl to cd, and cd to MP3. of course, someone will be along to tell me that that’s all rubbish. but i stand by it! 😉

this isn’t just a willy-waving thread along the lines of “look at me, i take lots of long haul flights!” and “i’ve found an excuse to fart in public!”, is it?

fourbanger – i can use the jogging machine at the gym with no bother, and they’re fine for cycling too. the ones i got were the basic ones, though for more cash you can get sport-specific ones. as well as the IT band problem, i used to get severe knee pain from long walks (8 hours or so) which is now gone since using them.

if you go the prescription route ask them about suitable running shows too as some will compliment the innersoles, others will negate the effect…

i also happen to agree with epicyclo too, though. having feet so constricted by shoes arguably results in flat feet as being a problem (rather than flat feet being a problem in themselves)

yo! i have flat feet and went to FASIC in Edinburgh. i actually went to see a physio about my sore knee (IT band) and she spotted tight toe tendons and flat feet. i saw the foot guy and he prescribed me some everflex innersoles. they’re 3/4 length, and every year or two you replace the foamy innersole but the carbon and dense rubber heal is reused. £100ish initial outlay but then the refurb is £30 every couple of years…

oh, and i guess my retro heroes are JMC, missy (remember her on yoof show Passenger?) and from the road, Indurain. I also used to like to read about hans rey’s exploits.

downshep – are you suggesting we can’t possibly like robert millar because he is now a she? or is there some subtle point you are making that i’ve missed?

    worn 15 times and washed 7 0r 8

really, that often 😯 I’m yet to wash mine after a year!

anyway, i can see the OP doesn’t like this chat, so. i had a gore waterproof jacket for years and i ‘rate’ it. my current altura ergo reflex is not particularly great at wicking away sweat, so i wouldn’t rate that.

we have a woods criss-crossed with trails, and traversed by hefty bikes, and serviced by a whacking great tractor-trailer and bus, and a mini railline is too far? i remember the feasibility studies because my former employer was involved in it. you can’t develop in the car park because it’s a floodplain. but the rail link won’t require a development on the floodplain. i commend their ingenuity.

i can think of at least two ways to find out that doesn’t involve wild speculation! (the forum’s speciality 😉 )

but as you’ve come here, i seem to recall reading that the batteries don’t need to to be left full, or empty, or otherwise, and will still work more or less the same. i think…

i’ve left mine for several months without a noticeably diminished battery life.

simons_nicolai-uk, i read it, and i disagree. i drive a van for a living (often at night), and you know what happens when i see a really bright light on a bike? shall i tell you? i SLOW DOWN! yeah, it can be annoying, but it doesn’t lead me to speed up and plough into the cyclist!

of course, i commute with several lights, some bright, others less so.

i think something without a rear derailluer, internal gear, like a brooklyn machine works. and halloumi is the best!

    …I can’t imagine…

see, there’s your problem. it’s interesting that people see fit to use imagination to make claims about an activity that can only be experienced through its doing. just saying, like…

Coming down of Green Lowther is ‘entertaining’ in a ‘HOW STEEP!!! vertical grass kinda fashion.

yeah, my pal was the only to ride that. he was on a clunky old giant that was too small for him with narrow handlebars and half a foot of spacers. in addition, he was carrying his super heavy bivvy bag, his sleeping bag, a two man tent for me, and my heavy sleeping bag! what a guy.

that trip we rode from innerleithen to cockburnspath over two and a bit days. there were a few boggy/steep bits that we avoided. but it was pretty exhausting, so not really cheating!

EDIT: i think it was a different hill, very short but insanely steep down to a river; grassy field with lots of hoofs marks. god knows how he didn’t go a-over-t!

i run 100mm on my inbred. the front end gets thrown around a hell of a lot. but, my previous 100mm forks were the original Z1 bombers. i find myself wanting 120mm, just so they ride like the marzocchis…

MrK 9 speed Shimano chains (which HG93 is) are not directional. It is 10 speed that are.

my directional shimano chain was 9 speed. at least, that’s what i asked for. if it had obviously been 10 speed i would have returned it…

i was looking at those smart lunar R1s – but there’re lots of reviews saying they can’t handle the rain. are they any good in the wet then ❓

surely the council have to please the majority and not the minority, and more importantly keep traffic moving.

crapspackle. if pedestrians are the minority then the inconvenience of changed phasing will only happen infrequently, i.e when someone wants to cross.

back in ‘the day’ (late 90s in this case) i had a 30-something friend who would regularly clock up 100+ miles a week commuting, often taking in far longer offroad routes. he’d then meet us at the weekend, smoke about a billion roll-ups and beast us all up the climbs. damn him!

i used to ride a minimum of 6 miles each way, but often getting up really early to get in the hills to see the sun rise. that was a couple of years back via the lovely pentland hills…

i used white lightening dry lube, all through the scottish snow last year and it was pretty good. i needed to apply it at the start of each ride but the chain never got too dirty and black. i’ve also tried various other lubes and once my current lot is done i’ll be back on the white lightning.

i was walking back from uni when i saw the footage on some tvs in an electronics shop. i chuckled to myself thinking “another minor disaster at a power station, when will they learn!”. then i got to my house and my american housemate told me the story
