Don't use waterproof socks on wet days unless you want trench foot

i would have disagreed with this before today's ride…

are you running an inline post with the saddle right back on the rails? maybe get a layback post so the clamp is on the middle of the rails?

Those of you that seem to be on some sort of religious quest to get down to "just one bike"…
…do you take the same approach to other essential things in life? jackets?, shoes?,… underwear?!.

i only have one coat! and a bike as an essential thing? sheesh! i've ridden the alps on my hardtail and loved it. and cross country. and toured. i really think it is you, sir, who needs to convince me!

i've got two bikes. it's ridiculous! one ali hardtail and one steel rigid. i should just combine them into a steel hardtail – will be able to offroad, do alps, touring, some road… i sicken myself by having two!

i live in scotland but use clipless. anyway, i digress. i have used flats many times, both here and in southern spain, and i can say, i've only ever used vans, and never had any stress with slippage on rocks…

hey u-r – which hahanna? think mines 97 odd, darkish red.

why i buy it? because it seemed like a solid steel framed warrior with rack eyelets. paid £150 for the full bike so hardly modern day full sus money!

apparently avids succumb to sticky pistons but my juicy threes are two years old and work a treat – no bleeding, no loss in performance, and good value. they've been ragged in the alps and plenty of gritty rides in scotland

EDIT – i was gonna say deores but don't they come as a kit that needs to be assembled? or is that only the older ones?

jeffrey lewis – arrow. i'm sure there're plenty of people who'd describe it as sub-velvet underground, but i think it's totally amazing.

that BBC link wasn't a national story – it was regional to london. granted, some may think that something happening in london automatically makes it national news…

for the record.. you speaketh silly nonsense about what you presume me to do with regard to a 'standard level of attitude and service' in bars.

this what i thought, that'd you'd frequent bars where they call you 'prick'

i'm sorry to sound so negative – my other main gripe is personal, i.e. i don't have a lot of money for luxuries like magazines! it's made me uber critical about all purchases 🙂

So you missed some great articles based on the cover?

    haha guess so! ^_^

    Really? I mean really?

well i did explain that wasn't the main reason. i guess i got annoyed at seeing 'gnarly' cover pictures, normally over some canadian roots and rocks on a bike with white bombers, which never seemed to bear any relevance to anything inside. i was already feeling less than enthusiastic and then i saw that snow cover.

i used to buy every issue. i then decided to boycott one issue last year that coincided with the awful soft-porrn shot in the calender. and didn't miss the mag too much. i didn't buy the last one cos of that cover – skidding in the snow? yikes! but really, i'm mostly annoyed that the people who pay a premium price (£4.25) get anything but premium service.

i like ones in exmoor that take you into minehead. they start as bridleways but if you take the wrong route you may end up on a footpath. but there's no real way to know, until you hit the town and see a 'footpath' sign pointing up the trail you came down 😉

i've got a hardcore which i donated to my girlfriend. it has original (97) bombers (i.e. dual mount), original hope big un (the ginormous one) on the front with one of the original mavic disc-only DH rims. it's a 1×9 setup with xt cranks. the rear wheel was pinched by me but used to be a hope ti-glide with mavic 521/721

i use a revolution that's about a year old and i guess it's fine. however, my trek 15 year old three led is still going strong! lost the bracket so just clips to my bag or into a mesh pocket. do trek still do lights, one wonders??

second for josie dew here – she's a witty lass, brysonesque, i hear (nopt read bill bryson though)

i also read 'riding the mountains down' by bettina selby which was amazing – a far more detailed and dry account than JD but great in its own way
