how long roughly will this ride go for, time wise? i'd love to break my TBC ride duck tomorrow! 🙂

it's the other way around for me. i have a commuter, and a better offroader. but the communter is so much fun that i'm gonna soon to put all the good bits on and have just the one bike 🙂

13th – it's the 'pass' between allermuir and the hill with the ski slope. the trail drops down from windy door nick to boghall farm first on singletrack, then on double track… i think.

basically if you climb from swanston, then you get to a junction – left to the ski slope, and just go right. or straight on, but that's a vertiginous scree slope…

that looks like right good fun! might come along on wednesday if i can get some forks on my kona 🙂

what about the climb from swanston village to windy door nick? i've got close a few times, but that was a couple of years ago when i used to commute to penicuik and had a pannier bag to plant some weight through the back wheel…

mine first appeared about two years ago and i still suffer from time to time – though i should have seen the stretches through a bit better.

toptip i got was to get my bike properly fitted – turns out my seat was about 2" too high which causing my hips to twist and stretch the band – don't scoff and assume you've got it right – turns out my ideas about seat height were slightly out with painful consequences.

now it really only gets painful when i have to hike a fully-loaded bike up some ridiculously steep slope – hardly everyday riding…

the opening scene from 'small engine repair' has one of those tree cutting machines. they're amazing to watch. though the after-effect is not so great i guess…

drac – yeah, we found places in the centre. but we'd just left there to go back to the hotel area! we were under the impression that the hotel was in a studenty area so kebab shops should abound? nope, back in a taxi to pretty much where we'd left… weird.

amen. i once had three sets of missiles – the final set finally died two years ago 🙁

i was there for a mate's 30th the other weekend. it was good fun but we dubbed it 'the city that goes to sleep at 11.30pm' as we struggled to find anywhere open for food… and that was a saturday!

i remember rob warner commentating for some FMX about a year ago and he was asked where it should all go. he suggested single crown forks for whips and bar spins!

so at 100mm with sag you're only looking at a paltry 15mm change

i've measured the fork travel and they're only 96mm anyway! 🙂

thanks you guys – i was gonna consolidate my kona and my stumpy HT onto a 456 frame and sell the kona and spesh frames – thought i'd see how this works out first instead…

i'm 11st so no stress there! not sure what length forks the frame had originally but the gt ones on there at the moment ensure i get a fair few pedal strikes per ride (where on my stumpy HT i'd get none). so slacker angles and higher BB sounds great!

fantastic. there aren't enough posts like this on STW. the main reason i occasionally look at mtbr is because of photo-posts like this…

i have some very thin trousers from an outdoor shop that'd pack down small and light; i'd also ditch the 'jumper' for something thinner (i'm assuming it's a big bulky thing). maybe even something that works both on and off the bike?

EDIT: i'd probably not have a long sleeve top but just use the waterproof jacket and take it off when you get into pubs/clubs.

my spesh stumpy has guides like that – i got an lbs to fit some avid brakes and they used some of those split bungs. just ask at a local shop – radical thought i know! 😮 🙂

i'm sorry ro, idiot was a bit harsh. but please, stop thinking you are somehow enlightened, and everyone else is in denial – it jsut won't wash! for the record, i have cantilevers on one bike and the work fine. for me 😆

EDIT = oh my, i take it all back, after that gary glitter rant. i feel embarressed for you 😳

huh, interesting. and there i was, thinking it was just a bodge to counter a stem with too little rise and too short a steerer on the forks… 🙄

ro, you are a pretentious idiot swayed by a notion of retro-chic. may i suggest you get some rod brakes? keep it reall!

it doesn't have long travel forks and slack angles and a super low toptube. is it still allowed?!

i'm fairly certain there's a 'correlative' effect. i believe germany has done some research which backs up the bees/mobiles linkage, but alas i'm too lazy to go find it…

perhaps not a great shot but was certainly a record of a great time! first solo camping trip + first wild camping trip, pentland hills

i was wondering that too – think it might be about that, but it'd make the seat angle something like 75 degrees! so far forward…

not entirely sure about the anti-trail centre sentiment – a far few of these trail centre tracks started as unofficial tracks cut by the locals, or animal tracks. i remember riding aston hill before it was official – the track was permanently covered in needles, it was so rarely used!

though personally i +1 for gordimhor – the best one is the next one!

i drove alone to the alps 12 years ago. it was fine though you will be **** exhausted. also, i missed a turning of the autoroute on the way there and it was an hour before the next turning point so never made it to les gets on the first day. same on the way back too… just be careful with the junctions eh? 🙂

just back from the docs, she thinks it is to do with the ulnar or median nerve. booked in for physio as she suspects there may be an issue with my neck; if that doesn't work then it'll be nerve conduction stuff. hope the physio sorts it – don't like operations!
