    50(52) mile run

i hope you mean cycle! 😮

i find it odd that you have a whole new bike and see fit to single out one small aspect of it as responsible for making you faster!

    ahahahaha, that seems to read:

I think you’ll find it’s brusk and/or brusque. Maybe if you spent a bit less time in Lycra and looking at yourself in the mirror you’d know not to incorrectly castigate someone else for a correct spelling of a word used in correct context.

    ergo

    Road bikes are indeed shite.

pastcaring, earlier: “i hate road bikes, me. mountain bikes all the way! i certainly wouldn’t post a pic of a road bike here”

    even earlier: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/more-touring-bags

by the way, that’s a lush finish on the OP’s frame

ahahaha, at the top of my page it says “must be new road bike season”. no mention of mountain bikes! are you really surprised at what you found in this post? ahahaha

niche enough for what? riding? 😮

it may be a wee trek but badby woods always used to be fun. though it’s entirely possible that riding has been banned there now

blimey, really? i thought most everyone does this most of the time!

part of the fun is exploring, even when it turns out to be crap. or is it just me?

i ride a singlespeed fixed gear unicycle with a head angle of 73 degrees and i’m still quicker that jon rambo being chased by a bear

i used M&S when i went to spain, it seemed to cover general trail riding. never had to claim, mind…

rudedog – water on the knee – on both knees? my dad used to suffer, only one knee though. she will certainly take it easy, once tomorrow is out of the way!

Surrounded By Zulus – thanks for that. what kind of exercises would work the VMO muscle like that?

boblo, i’m sure you are aware of the irony between your statements “there is no wilderness” and “‘wild’ and ‘firespot’ don’t go together”. aren’t you?

NCB – my first experience was very similar 🙂 i loved singletrack with panniers, sketchy fun!

i’ve not commented on this thread but i always read it/look at the shots. NorthCountryBoy – i wholeheartedly appreciated your approach, with the tent and the big bag and the panniers 🙂

it looks like i’m taking ma girl to a shop to buy a bike. then we may go up to the pentlands! it’ll be a fun-packed day no doubt.

alas i’m not but i’m trying to figure out if i can watch it online between studying, cycling, and seeing a close encounters of the third kind/paul double-bill in the cinema!

have you got any idea of timings? i can’t find a link that helps!

but most importantly – have a great time! 🙂

there’s a leaflet published by edinburgh council promoting cycling in the meadows – it suggests one of the nicest paths to cycle is the one from whale bone arch – upon which cycling is not permitted!

how very dare you! my girlfriend is scottish. i suppose ‘we’ are stealing them from ‘you’

    MrKmkII

well, i never thought i’d invoke racism with such a simple question. but thanks for clearing up that all english are ignorant, all scots are supremely knowledgeable 🙄 thanks to everyone else though, with your more considered help and discussion. i suspected as much (and i’m english! my god how on earth did i ever know about right to roam? i’m surprised i can even read)

that’s kinda what the walker ended up saying, but with opposite bias i.e. it’s a grey area but probably not.

my girlfriend was certainly all those things though. just the wet weather i’m not too sure on

i don’t get why CRC advertise goods for a certain (usually exceptionally low) price, only to click the link and find it refers only to some stupid obscure size that no one would want to buy. the part that fits your bike is three times the price…

well, i guess i do get it, but i don’t like it!

if you can find some ceramic-use brake pads then you’ll be laughing!

i’d rather be “worked as a van driver” than merely a van driver. work doesn’t define me and nor should it anyone else – including prostitutes! but i guess that’s your point huh? 🙂

where would you put a down hill track around london?

some of the soccer is being held in scotland!

ah ok, thanks DezB. there’s nothing apparently wrong to my eyes, that could be attributed to this loosening, so i’m worried it will happen again. i guess i’ll send it back and see. just a shame that i’ve only had three rides on my bike and it’s out of action again!

jaysus, no jeff buckley – hallelujah?

or nirvana – jesus don’t want me for a sunbeam (though maybe not ‘better’ than the original, but certainly worthy of mention)

    easiest/cheapest way to get there

that would be cycling. hope that helps 🙂

seriously, i rarely hire a car for trips. occasionally i’ll get lifts further afield, the odd train here and there. sometimes i’ll ride out from edinburgh and just get a train back (say, into east lothian or across to fife). mostly i just keep it local.

it totally works for me though i’m certain there are plenty of naysayers too.
and i did own a car til a year ago, so i know what it’s like to own one too…

country or countries where you feel you belong

what a truly horrid, insidious turn of phrase. so if i feel i belong in the UK, it means i feel the UK owns me? 😕

    MrKmkII

Jedi or No Religion- both seem valid given the question, but what do you put for Nationality if you dont feel British. What do you put for Ethnicity if you dont feel its right to make such distinctiions ?

hi kaesae, thank you very much for the offer 🙂 i’ve already got the mech, but i was working up to setting it up, dreading that it would be fraught with difficulty. turns out, it took only five minutes!

    MrKmkII

i haven’t ridden for over a month, i now realise. i’ve been very slowly building my new bike. all it needs is the front mech sorted. you’ve just inspired me to finish it!

i saw someone eyeing my bike up outside the uni library. he was right at my bike, i came over and asked if i could help but he casually sloped away. to eye some more bikes just up a bit. i stared and when he finally clocked me looking at him he decided to walk away.

i’ll keep an eye out. i had the grey montana and a friend had the very same one as that! shouldn’t be too hard to spot. though not sure what i’d do once i see it!

i personally like the hairdresser on earl grey street – about £10 a pop for my bonf, but consistently the best cut, and a mile better than any edinburgh barber shop.

also, AVOID AFRIN (?) BARBERS JUST UP FROM THE GRASSMARKET! the guy cut his hand quite badly and bled all over my head for several minutes before reluctantly (and poorly) applying a plaster!

    MrKmkII

well, it never turned up. got in touch with the seller and he’s being pretty snippy about refunding me.

i ordered some from helitape.co.uk on sunday night and it arrived monday! hand delivered, as they are based in the same town 😉

hmm, i got up with a stinking hangover, and spent most of the day trying to find part of a headset that i missed when i put it into my new frame. except, it was there all along; i’d just put the seal in the wrong way around. not a very productive day… 🙁
