i had cantis on my last bike. i loved the way you can spend lots of time getting them set up just right, and how over time it gets easier and quicker. no skill to putting disc pads in! avid discs brakes with superstar pads aren’t particularly better in the wet either…

all injuries are mostly gone and the migraine has disappeared!

that was such fantastic fun! it’s been a very long time since i wooped with laughter on a decent (although i may still have been woozy from the winding!)!

i recall that one brand of allen key skewers advises strongly against racing. IIRC it was to do with it not be as reliable.

the 2.4″ black chilli ones are drifty little burgers, especially on packed trail centre berms. only a slight drift, and never a full skid-out and crash. i like em, but it took a long time to get used to them…

why? cos it’s so much fun! i loved my old kona but it was a wee bit short. also, i couldn’t run a rear disc and tyre clearance meant i couldn’t run anything bigger than 2.2″. this one is so much fun! as soon as i start riding, i don’t wanna turn back – i feel like i could carry on for ever!

i would STRONGLY ADVISE against a control tech. the first one i got came loose every single ride, so i got it replaced under warranty, and this one came loose today. i tightened it up and the threads stripped. awful awful awful.

like crotchrocket says, if the tyres are too grippy, find some really loose ground! like sand, as a start…

my bike is stored back-wheel down. the avid juicy threes are fine but the 2004 fox float stanctions have become a rather oily affair since i started doing this. i recall that they recommend you store them upside once in a while to lube the seals, not every time! still work fine as far as i can tell, mind…

i know someone who rented a flat from her boyfriend’s parents – every time the boyfriend stayed at hers he had to pay the girlfriend rent!

150mm fork on an XC ride in the mendips, so yeah riding the same as I was I’d have easily bottomed out a 100mm fork

how you figure, sports fan? on properly set up forks the chance of bottoming out would be no different for short or long forks.
