Hmm, is this just because you can’t clean a camelbak bladder very well due to the opening? We use hydrapaks, you can turn their bladders inside out to wash and dry them properly, never had a problem with mank…?

    oh yes, sorry about that.

they’ve still got the fronts in stock, if its a flip flop lever you can just buy two fronts and get a longer hose for the rear.

cant comment on how good they are as i’ve never used them, but…..

you can get them new for a fair bit less from bike-discount.de
There’s also a few other options in their clearance.

What is the protocol for a kiss on the cheek when meeting a woman?

A lot of the wifes friends / relatives go for this and it makes me rather uncomfortable.

Do you actually kiss the cheek? or just the air?

Is a hand on their hip acceptable?

Do you give said hip a little squeeze? – even if its an old lady?

    :(

Got some 100mm Reba RLs from on-one, took the spacer out so they’re now 120mm. Only £250. They’ve still got white ones in stock.

Worth asking if your price includes legal cover as it usually does and its an optional extra that I always ask them to take off.

Also make sure you check the policy thoroughly, when mine came through from wicked quotes this year the way they managed to beat my best quote was to take commuting cover off the policy but not bother to tell me!

    Well….

After only 4 days (!) the Hiromoto Gingami No.3 Petty 150mm arrived from Japan!

    Hows that for top service?!?

Very very impressed with the knife, I’ll certainly be ordering the rest from the same place, can’t beat the quality at the price.

Made some soup last night so lots of veg chopping. Back to back with the sabatier, the Hiromoto was miles ahead. The one thing it stumbled on was a sweet potato, I think because the blade is so polished, there’s no imperfections to let air between the blade and the potato so it kind of vaccums onto it. Think i’ll include one of the knives with ‘filets’ when I order the rest to avoid this.

    Thanks for the tip chewkw!

I had a company CV written by a professional while on secondment in Australia. I didn’t pay for it so can’t comment on its worth in that respect, however it was far better than my personal CV, so good that I have now copied most of it and rewritten my personal CV.
The only negative that I found with it was that they “bigged me up” more than reasonable in some areas, saying that I was more experienced in certain things than I actually am.
Overall I’d say if you can stand the cost (no idea what the going rate is) then go ferrit. :-)

Wedged a piece of innertube between one of the mounts for the undertray on my van and the chassis to stop the squeeking that had driven me mad for a year until I figured out what it was. 8)

I had the same error with Avast after a system restore, using the separate uninstaller linked above allows you to uninstall it, then you can either re-install the latest version or an alternative.

    oh aye.

i dont know what your budget is but the life is the same frame in 853 and is slightly lighter.

to be honest though if i were looking at them again i’d still get the breath as the difference in price means you can get some much nicer wheels which will make more of a difference.

Do you own one? Whats the ride like?

Yes, it rides a million times better than my inbred did and they’re around the same price if you get it from the bike chain.

Feels very comfortable, lots of give in the frame as the tubes are very thin. Also means its lighter than a lot of other options. All day comfort is probably as good as you’ll get from a hardtail IMO. 8)

Had an email this morning saying that my knife has been dispatched from Japan and will arrive in 4-6 days.

Top service there, can’t wait to see what its like!

Some top advice and help here guys, thanks a lot.

I’ve ordered a Hiromoto Gingami No.3 Petty 150mm from JCK to see how I get on with the jap knives before I get carried away and order a whole set, this one seems to be a good beginner knife being stainless.
(Also means I get time to contemplate which knives I will actually use and just order the ones I need instead of replicating the sabatiers I have!)

I now have that excited feeling you get when you’re waiting for a package to arrive from a foreign land with shiney things in it! :D

I’ve bought online and they were great for the price.

My last pair came from specsavers, i get my contact lenses there so they were half price.
The thing that amazed me was when they said they would be ready that afternoon! They have a lab in store and as long as the lenses are in stock they’re ready same day. They were loads cheaper than vision express who use this as a unique selling point and an excuse to charge rediculous prices.

I bought 3 chinese cleavers (Tojiro F-920, Suien, Sugimoto CM4030 Chinese Cleaver Small & Thin type), 1 Fujiwara FKH Santoku, fish bone tweezer. I was going to buy most of the above but ended with cleavers.

Did you get stung for import duty?

I’m thinking I may order one of the Hattori HD series, probably a 15cm and trial it for a few months first, then decide whether to get the rest to match or go for something like the Wusthof.

Do the proper japanese knives take any more looking after than the more mainstream stuff?

edit: trial not trail, i’m not going to trail a 15cm knife around, people might think i’m mental.

I bought most of my knives from JCK that are still cheaper than any you find in the market here even with delivery charges etc.
    Japanese Chefs Knife

The ones you want to go for are:

    1. Hattori HD series.
    2. Misono Sweden steel or UX10 series
    3. Hiromoto Tenmi-Jyuraku Series (Aogami Super)
    4. Special
    5. Buy some King whetstones or any good Japanese whetstones.
    6. If you are a Chinese cleaver user then look for Sugimoto Chinese Cleaver or Suien Chinese Cleaver.

That site looks very promising, I’ll have a proper look on there.

I assume that you have at least one of each of the above?

or people who grind them back

    Your butcher?

I’ll investigate that, we’re on good terms with the local butcher so I’ll drop in for a chat.
I also saw on a recent thread regarding sharpening that the local butcher is good for showing you good technique, top tip there!

Hmm, or the other option, I wonder if I could have my existing knives reconditioned?
Maybe have the blades re-ground, and new handles?
Or is that an imaginary service that would probably cost more than the knives are worth?

    mrjmt

I like the look of the Wusthofs, the handle looks very comfortable. There’s a stockist near my work too so I might drop in and have a look.

On a similar note, when you go to a shop to have a look, what do you do? Its not like you can sit there and play stairway to heaven on them is it!
Maybe I should take a carrot with me and give it a quick slice?
Or make stabbing actions into mid air?
Or learn to juggle knives and ask to see the full set?

The handles of the sabatiers are starting to show their age, a couple have small cracks in them and they are a limited edition set with brass parts to the handles which I just don’t like.
They’ve served their time and I would probably be looking at replacing them in a year or two anyway so would be asking the same.
And I have a n*10 birthday this year and the wife has decided that she wants to get me some knives.

I’ve spent a lot of time justifying this to myself so please don’t spoil it!

AFAIK, they’re adjustable, but there were some OEM ones that weren’t (seem pretty rare though).

See if they’ve got sag markings for 80/100/120mm travel on the stanctions then you can be pretty sure they’ll adjust.

dahon do a meter long post …… but its about 40mm in diameter – might fit round the outside of your seat tube

    best answer so far.

Had an email back from sanderson, going to check tonight but i think it’ll all be ok. 8)

Dont want a new frame, the sanderson is the best riding frame I’ve had and wouldnt want to get rid of it for some silly reason like its the wrong size!

sure your old rotors weren’t 185mm, and your mount adaptor is the same?

It doesn’t come with a bottle top, you fit your cap of choice.

I’m also not sure of how well it will work with the majority of bottle caps that need a bottle opener as they’re pretty bent once removed.
Would work with the screw off type though I guess?

The hayes sole wasnt a sliding caliper, one pad had a moving piston, the other had to be manually wound out as the pad wore.
Thats why they were low end.

The national trust sites in the lakes are nice, and you can pre-book online now. Bit more character (trees) than a farmer cashing in on a spare field and good facilities.

Make sure you use sintered pads and be prepared to replace every moving part on your bike after the dalby paste has ground it away.

I remember riding across a freshly ploughed field that way when we rode C2C, the ruts were exactly the same as the wheelbase of my bike, that was a laugh, like riding with egg shaped wheels!
