Cheers for the replies. Think I might do a reccie this weekend to test it out before I do it during the week.

TJ – If you’ve easily got it to hand that would be ace. My email is in my profile.

I’ll be working 8-4 and 10-6 so hopefully can avoid most of the traffic.

The trains are still awful and the one I used to get back from Edinburgh just after 5pm looked like it had arrived from the 1960s

Sorry, I meant by bike. The train station is five minutes from the house and I have a works van if I need to drive, but it would be good to cycle in 2-3 days a week.

I was thinking of heading through Rosyth and taking the back road down the start of the bridge. Is there cycle path from the Edinburgh side of the bridge into the centre or is it mainly road? I’m working next to Haymarket.

I love the unlimited mileage policy at Enterprise. Best was in 2009. A brand new Astra with 300 miles on the clock. Handed it back after three days with 2,700 miles.

Sorry, that wasn’t much to go on, was it. “managed network services” company beginning with ‘A’?

I was looking forward to doing some detective work, but it’s not the one.

with phrases like that you must be moving into management

Haha, definitely not, but I’m obviously spending too much time around management. Find a replacement is much better :-)

I had a 06 1.3CDTI 1700 Combo and used it for commuting and biking. It had the bench seat in the back, but I still got rid because I wanted a car for the extra seats

Echo everything above. If it’s your only vehicle and you are likely to need more the two seats get the car.

I’m going to get a Partner or Berlingo Van again in the next year or so, but only when the wife has a newer car which can be used as the main vehicle.

No worries. I’m coming back up to Scotland on Wednesday so won’t be around on Thursday.

The Wharncliffe website looks really good and seems to have enough information to get me there and explore.

Can you not pay for the new bike by cheque? By the time your cheque goes to clear your original cheque will have cashed.

As a buyer I would be worried about the seller trying to hide something if they didn’t give me the reg. I HPI check cars before I go for a viewing, so would always ask for the reg.

Thanks Iain, considering anything with a bit of height and working outside. I thought I might have some transferable skills with Telecoms.

Will brush up my C.V. and send it on. Thanks again.

Wow, never thought i’d get so many replies.

firestarter – no worries about the banter. it’s good to see. I’m based in Scotland so it would be good to chat with someone who had experience in the area. Is there plenty of work in Scotland or is travelling all over the UK/abroad expected?

Loads of good advice on here, thanks for all of the replies. I’ve got experience on the technical side on ground level, but don’t have experience of climbing on a professional basis. I’m happy to self fund some training and certs if it gets me in the door. I’m in my late twenties and i’m physically fit with about 5 years of telecom experience.

Lunge – Are you ok if I email you or drop me a mail and i’ll reply. My email is in my profile?

‘I’ve got a new bike, I must post pics as everyone will be desperate to see it and I can boost my self esteem when everyone says how nice it is….’

Posting pics in response to a pic request I can understand. But ‘hey let’s all look at my bike’ threads are a bit sad really…

Decided didn’t need two bikes anymore so sold the 575 and the HT, this arrived today in replacement of both, should fit the bill nicely (though I am thinking of building up a Klein Attitude at some point)

Positives – Nice period houses if that’s your kind of thing. House prices are pretty low at the moment and you get a lot for your money. Good transport links, although no train station. Close to the Ochils. Central location for the whole of Scotland.

Negatives – House prices are lower than elsewhere for a reason. Not a lot to do at night. Local kids don’t have much to do.

I looked at living in Kincardine for a while, but chose Dunfermline as it has a lot more going for it.

Had it for a few months as wife works for Sky and got put on the trial. A few bugs at first, but now fine. Good selection of stuff. About a 2 minute wait for an average 120 min film on a 10mb connection.

Answering the phone, Paul, is… a little like making love to a beautiful
woman. In that you’ve gotta… lift the receiver, put it to your ear,
speak… loudly and clearly… oh, yes – and don’t forget to state your
    name.

Not sure where you are toys, but I’m selling my 2007 Mondeo Edge 130 2.0 TDCI Edge estate in the next couple of weeks. 92,000 motorway miles. I’m the second owner. It’s ex-lease with full printed service history. It’s the very last of the Mk3’s (June 2007). Looking for £4000, based near Edinburgh.

    Looks the same as this

Highly recommend one. It’s fast for an estate. You get 50-60mpg and it’s boot is massive for bikes/kit.
