It was great at first but it lasted less than a year; the seals were poor and let done the design with (expensive) wear inside. Sram were no help even tho manul gave no service info..Heavy too.
Got carbon 2×10 now, which works great.

    1) its a pretty extensive knowledge base here, a search of existing threads would cover many questions. If not, a search still helps ask a better question, then tag on the end of that thread and keep it all together .

    2) I like the random daft banter too. Groundhog Day events witting & otherwise can still raise a smile.

    Brill, ace & class!
Cheers for that JY. This might be a deja vu thread (again) but I hadnt seen this either…

But STW is Groundhog Day every day; that’s all part of its enduring, endearing charm.

All the contacts & publicity is great but the police have to take it be told. If they don’t take it seriously, it needs to be escalated until it is. You were lucky, but next time?

Cheers for that! It started out all corn-ball but showed an edge…. “Small pilot flame –WTF??!”

I nearly got to where I was gonna have to try this recently but just got a HD & NN to seat with tubes first (other posts). I was a little nervous as I once lost my eye lashes and brows when the lighter I was refilling sparked up…

I’ve seen (on TV) off-road snow truckers in Iceland do this too, well cool, brill & ace.

I’ve got HD now on front (replacing a Fat A) and another new Nob Nic rear. Like it!

See other recent posts for the knowledge base

    Hon George,
Its the ZipVit Glucosamine Sulphate 500mg with Chondroitin 400mg. I never had your problem with it (though calcium supplements were disastrous). I tried these on & off to confirm it makes still makes a difference – I’m well aware of the placebo effect. Devil’s & Cat’s Claw seems to help a lot too.

Just checked the map: yes, that’s it: from Street Gate to Hawkswick Cote. Deffo do it other way round!
No idea why anyone would say to go DOWN Mastiles and up that BW?! Did I miss something?

Good surface on most/steepest bit of Mastile. It was mostly frozen when I went 2 weeks ago but some snow on th BW; good luck with the surface.

There was another post on this FYI.

    Sympathies!
I did a nine mile ride up Littondale and was fine after and day after. Then I took the my usual middle-aged joint supplements (glucosasime, devil’s claw…).

Just gagged as the (big) pills went down and a lower back tendon clicked out again…fully seized up in an hour or so.

So I couldn’t walk or bike because of a COUGHING injury…

I’ve swapped out the LEDs for some Cutter Crees that are brighter lower power etc but not got round to changing the current limit resistor accordingly yet. Its got good mechanics & decent optics so worth upgrading.

I’ve supplemented it with a single MTBBattries &.or DX lamps.

Going up Mastiles Lane is good but a waste of painfully gained height coming down IMO. The BW that goes off NW at the gate then drops down to the road to Arncliffe and is cool, brill & ace.

Food & pint in The Falcon, Arncliffe recommended.
Enjoy the ride; its a special place.

    Thanks for posting all.
I’m not a golf fan myself but I’d say to each his own. The golf course has been there for over 100 years and to be fair, they keep an eye on the place, do some maintenance on moorland while their rent to the Council helps pay for general upkeep.

The very few irresponsible dogs owners are a concern for fouling and for the effect on ground-nesting birds (season now runs to end of July).

I’m writing up a wider plan for paths and access for the Moor and woodlands. The linking section between the end of the Sconce path and the cabin needs urgent attention & I’ll post options for consultation soon on FB etc.

FuncyDunc, cheers. There are a number of muddy bits but many clear up quicker than I’d expect. The frost has been brilliant.

Some of the complaints I can discount and others are may be due to walkers not being used to bikes on the narrow path (I hear similar things between other user: dog walkers with leads and runners). Other reports though are about groups of riders on the Scone path (your “M1” lol) passing close and at speed without warning. Not good PR and easily avoided.

I spent several hours repairing the damage to these 4 bell pits this week. Seems like it was some young BMX lads here. Think I left the site in decent and safe order; visually its not too bad now, but the old natural straight “bomb hole” runs are not as good as they were. There are some natural berms around the edges that are all legit.

We’d appreciate it if anyone who rides up there could pass on the facts of the current policy: that digging is only permitted within the Quarry.
If there are any more future proposals for the quarry like a pump track or even to stop cycling on the Moor, that would help the cause.
    Many thanks.

3-4 days last month. All as expected.

I ordered a TS/PS HD pair from bikediscount.de a few weeks ago. What I got is a Trailstar with red EVO label on the sidewall and the box labeled TSC; and a Pacestar with (newer?) white tyre marking and box marked as PSC. I’ve only fitted the PS (to the front as I put a new Nobby Nic on the rear).

Can’t tell difference by feel (my fingers have an electronic engineer’s calibrated temperature sensing but need a durometer for hardness….)

So it works for me; all much as expected.

I’ve been reminded recently again (doh) how useful a bit of local heat is to shifting really stiff threads.

This kind of thing works well before getting out the plumbing tools:

They did the same for Hammerschmidt; no mention of service or intervals and then decline any responsibility when some parts turn to cheese.

I’ve had 3 Reverbs under warranty and this last is now playing up too; maybe I need to learn to service it myself.

There were some useful posts on this this last month worth revisiting.

I did Thomson to La Palma in Dec 12 and they were not at all fussy except for the total weight, but from other posts, YMMV.

I try to take the primary or secondary position on the road as suits. If they doe overtake with a full vehicle width (H Code) – and that’s their vehicle, not your’s – I have been known to give verbal or gesticulative proximity advice as they pass. I did catch up with one white van and made a polite but firm request to give me more room, not a Rizla’s worth from his mirror. He (yes, male, NS?!) took it well with no comment, just a nod.

A bit of paper with rules won’t help much but the having the facts in your mind might. Don’t let them give you that “you don’t pay road tax” shite (abolished in 1937), “stay in the cycle lanes where you belong” etc.
I don’t jump red lights or use the pavement (10yr old and under only).

Filtering is tricky; being lawful doesn’t make you safe.

Maybe I’m sensitive; I’ve been knocked off twice (in 35 years) and had several near misses. I prefer to be off-road where being twatted is due to my (serious) inability only.

When you go through the payment screens details, the buyer’s address will show up. There’s coloured/highlighted text next to it saying “Confirmed”, you hope…

Name & shame the seller as a PSA when you’re ready.

My #1 son sold his Mac on eBay and the blurk claimed it all back as not received. Undelivered package never came back…
PayPal were totally on buyer’s (read: thieving chavva)side. My lad should have checked that address was confirmed.

I’ve done loads of eBay buy/sell and a confirmed address is always something I check, as well as feedback & transaction number.

The hilariously but sad inept thieved-bike posts evidenced on STW can help focus too..

However, I’ve found almost everyone is honest & competent. The only problems I ever had were due to the courier (City Link) and Canon UK..dispute was settled OK.
I’d do what BBob says: go to the PP dispute centre; Its pretty straightfwd to raise the problem.

Just moved from NNic & Fatal Bert that came on my Nerve AM to new NNic and Trailstar HD, so much as sandal00. Really cool then, though not done too many slippery bits yet.
It was impossible to get them to sit on the rim on tubeless until I cleaned all the old jiz off, reseated Stan’s rim strip and then stretched them up with a tube (any old rim seems to do). They were well floppy before that, doh!
Used that Screwfix 7L pump to get the volume of air in; better than my car tyre compressor. Since then, all great with Stan’s.

Yes, good to see this, and Shipley Glen/Harden Moor are stars too.

I’ve gone off some of the weenier rocks here on Shipley Glen, but up?!

BTW, Chris Bonnington used to practice on Baildon Bank, just round the corner from Shipley Glen. Some nice runs there; one of my commute routes..

Funny that, I was in All Terrain today and Ben said £40+ something. I guess that might include std spokes…
    It’s a rebuild on Pro’s II I need.

717 already on rear; front was tacoed by kind car driver in a crash so might be new 717 or 719..

I always find it easier get warm in winter than keep cool on summer so love it. After a most of a year of rain, frozen ground is a treat & pleasure . Less vegetation to deal with, fewer people, dogs etc.
Baildon Moor was pretty hard with frost yesterday but got a load of soon-freezing mud clagged on so will stop worrying about a few weight-weenie grams.

I’ve got a pair of Panaracer Trailrakers FS that might suit you tho TBH they are labeled as 2.1 but don’t come up that big. really good in mud & generally. Not much use on them as I use fatter ones now.

I dont really want to carry yet more kit.
I’m told there is an iPhone 4 app that that steadies the shot for this kind of stuff. Anyone know what it is? Case needed too.

I just had a stuck end cap nut with my DT Swiss M1800. Needed penetrating oil & small blowtorch then mole grips on the unthreaded part of the axle on the non drive side. Very satisfying when it shifted & freehub popped straight off.
Teeth marks on shaft stopped the cap going back on so put one end in a cordless drill chuck and held a fine file to it. Sorted.

I bought the Superstar blind bearing kit to pull out my pivot bearings but it is useful for f& r hub beatings too. Oh yeah, and headset. Good quality & versatile kit, Value when reduced.

I don’t bother with Mothers Day. I tell MrsE she’s not my mother
. My mum lives in the US where the date is quite different so get off the hook there too. 😉 Maybe that’s tight but have just had to negotiate Valentines very carefully…..

I’ve got several pairs of Mallets of different vintages and keep spares handy As soon as they start running with a bit of play or roughness you know you have to do a five minute service. Never had them fall apart on me.

I still really like them better than the SPDs. Great platform when you’re not clipped on.

Every time I looked at an alternative I find they are all a fair bit heavier.
