    Atheism – a non-prophet organisation. :D

Doesn't have/need a leader by the very nature of what atheism is. (although some out there will try and make a quick buck through atheist cults, I mean camps)

Some may argue Richard Dawkins – more the poster boy I suppose

PS3 for me. All the reasons above.

XBOX more for 'hardcore gamers' IMHO.

I had a fuel ex8 2009 and couldn't fault it – everything I threw at it was great fun, from Thetford (my regular) to welsh trail centres.

Just one word of warning Bontrager rims and tyre combinations! A bit of a pain really. See other threads on here but they can be a bit tricky getting the tyres on and off. Its only a minor point but annoying enough to mention.

Having said that I haven't ridden any of the others so can't really comment further.

Whilst at university in london got a circular email about a new Simon Pegg film and they wanted lots of extras. Turned out to be Shaun of the Dead.

So you could say I'm almost a famous film extra! 8)

EDIT: I didn't go hence the almost bit.

    Low energy light bulbs/lighting.

As a practice you could use the go-to meeting software and have on-line meetings with consultants (if you don't already) resulting in less car journeys etc.

Architects practice here so doing similar stuff.

I agree (john), the red does have a nicer flow. There are some good flowing sections that are 'off piste' as it were.

Got shown a few tracks at the weekend and were pretty good. I only ever stick to the known trails – I'll only end up getting lost.

Does look worth an exploration – although I've lived in Thetford for the past 25 yrs and haven't bothered yet!

Having done a bit of research on the above tyres (and current bank balance), think going to give the conti edge tyres a go.

Graham, I just park up at high lodge – bought a season ticket so straight into the thick of it…….literally. :-)

    Cheers peeps.

Reading through this thread, almost seems like a contrived advert for Roger Musson's book.

Having said that, looks pretty good might have to get myself a copy, cheers.

    I was thinking around 1.8-1.9".

Went out yesterday with 2.2" front and back…..was a bit interesting!!

More like surfing than biking in some areas!

New bike arrived with SRAM shifters and rear mech, shimano front all working fine (all be it after a bit of tinkering on my behalf, think that was just down to poor bike setup).

So are we saying that its really heavy or very dense!

    Is there a difference? 8O

    mrben100

Its not about weight, its about mass. Weight is determined by gravity on a mass.

Therefore the weight of the earth would need to be determined by somthing other than the gravitational force of the earth.

Does this mean the earth is weightless? :?:

    mrben100

All to do with density and gravity I reckon. Gravity is directly proportionate mass – we know the circumference of the earth hence volume.

Do some calcs and hey presto you've got the mass.

(disclaimer: actual sequence may be longer and indeed use completely different variables than indicated  )

DT78 – New bike came with X0 rear mech in tango orange. Currently saving for Tango Orange shifters and rear cassette.

Who knows, one day I might even ride the damn thing. :-)

Got X9 shifters on my new steed and absolutely love them. Previously had SLX triggers which I thought were good until now.

CRC got front and rear X0 shifters at the moment for about £130.

Band of horses – if in the right frame of mind. Their track Funeral is on that special Danny Macaskill you tube vid.

New editors album is out – not heard it but have enjoyed all their other stuff.

I second (liquid100 ^^^) new Doves album Kingdom of Rust.

Edit: liquid1000 – sorry didn't mean to demote ya.

Coatsey it appears you were on the right lines. I had routed the cable correctly but I tightened the cable with a couple of turns of the barrel adjuster and now its pulling enough cable through to smooth change.

Though I'd tightened it enough when indexing but apparently not!

I guess that's why mechs are evil – working adequately but you think 'I think that could run a bit smoother' and end up buggering it up.

    Cheers Chaps. :D

Looking at it, when shifting the mech seems to just hold the chain against the side of the chainring rather than force it up and onto it.

Once on though the mech looks parallel and the chain runs smooth.

When I checked the height of the mech there was only 2-3mm between mech and top of largest ring.

Everything has been done by the book as it were – just not shifting properly.

I'm sure I saw a hammer round here somewhere! :-)

Whilst girlfriend was out decided I'd was her car as very grubby. On her return had to explain that on cleaning the car I had found some odd scratches on the bonnet.

Did not tell her there was particularly resilient bird poo which I thought a brilo pad would fix!

Oh well at least it wasn't my car!

I'll keep tinkering, going out on it tomorrow…………will review how good it is in action. Only shifting I've done is with bike in the work stand.

    Shimano Deore XT 44/32/22.

In conjunction with SRAM X9 shifters – doubt there's any SRAM/Shimano conflict, similar spec XT/X9.

I had 2.35 Panaracer Rampage on my old steed – read a couple of good reviews and I loved them. Not sure how heavy they are though.

And as you'll see from the thread though, not everyone loves every tyre. (suprise :o )

Isn't there some statistic someowhere that China are building coal fired power stations at a greater rate than that of the industrial revolution.

Surely this shows even with the knowledge of consequences people carry on regardless!?!?

I don't think they would have done anything differently as they wouldn't have had the technology to do what they did any other way. I can't imagine that they would have let it halt any 'progress'.

Would they then have been able to research into the methods we now do? Who knows………but I think not.

On a bit of a tangent we are not killing the world – 'save the planet', I saw a docu where the expert (I think Dr Iain Stewartson?), said we're only making it less habitable for humans and animals, the earth itself would continue on and 'recover' with new species……think extinction of the dinosaurs, the earth is still here.

Might as well enjoy living it up and let future generations deal with I say……..ignorance is bliss

(although recently stolen – see other threads if you can be bothered) I had the trek fuel ex 8 2009 rootbeer and was a great do it all bike. Live and ride xc weekly in thetford but also take the odd trip to wales and worked perfectly well in both environments.

The trek never left me wishing the bike could do more, only my own ability. One issue I had though and have heard others also say that the stock Bontrager Tyres are incredibly tricky to get on and of the stock wheels, doesn't sound like much but halfway round a trail in the rain and get a puncture and you'll know what I am talking about. This may be because they are tubless ready? I am still a tube fan.

Gotta say though I'm 6'4" and found that the 21.5" frame suited me best – best to see if you can test/demo before buying.

Have to say I'm biased though as haven't ridden any of the others in question.

Bit late in the thread I know but I had the rampage 2.35 front and rear and loved them, found them confidence inspiring around Wales trails.

That said I only bike in wales once a month/bi-monthly rest of the time every week biking in thetford i.e. xc riding with no real ups or downs – needless to say they are a bit hard work.

Bike in thetford every week so have the pleasure of '****' I wont reveal his real name.

I think 'well nevermind' is his stock answer to anyone who hasn't bought one of their scotts!

Went in there when I had a brand new fuel ex 8 – response – oh, nevermind!
Mate had a stumpjumper fsr elite – his response – you guessed it.

Apparently there have been many complaints to the forestry commission – but to no avail.

I think here's there so that you forget how annoyed you are at how much you're going to have to pay for the carpark – clever ploy by the FC I reckon!
